(Former WR) Crash Bandicoot Any% Speedrun in

Күн бұрынThis was by far my longest grind. Absolutely everything happened in this grind; getting stuck in island 1, getting absolutely walled by sunset for a solid 2 weeks of it, choking runs in Jaws, and even choking a run in Cortex but after all the pain I finally got this time. Absolutely improvable but heck I'm not going to play this game in a whiiiiiile lol.
Big shoutouts to the Paawsse and everyone in my stream that supported me. Special shoutouts to Tebt for making the 39 possible in the first place by finding a way to apply the Sunset Vista time save.

@@TheChoccoBiccy09 If you beat the level without dying you have to watch the unskippable "great! But you missed..." screen. The speedrunner has to die at least once and dying when you get a checkpoint is better since you don't lose progress

This game took my whole summer (Yes, my whole summer) in 2001 to reach the 3rd island, and watching you beat it in 30 minutes is soooo satisfying

@@okra7648 the real ending is after the great hall. You use all of the collected gems to reach tawna and fly away on a bird.

Skill…I dunno I’m the only person who’s ever seen me play but as for patience, then pffft, if I die twice a row I start to rethink my life choices, specifically that one where I spent 8 bucks on this game lol.

This is part of the strat: When you run the level flawlessly, you will have as many boxes landing on crash as you missed on the level, in a small "cutscene" at the end of the level. Dying allows you to bypass this cutscene, thus gaining time. Example of the cutscene : he didn't die in the level hog wild (level next to the last level of first island)

This game has a pretty garbage save system where you enter a Tawna bonus and if you finish it you can save, well, it turns out that if you game over after doing the bonus the game puts you in the next level once you hit "continue", idk if that was an oversight or if it was intended but hey we take those. This is true for all levels except Native Fortress. This was actually known since 2017 but it was thought to be slower or barely faster, but by optimizing cycles and stuff it turns out it saves a lot of time!

Heya! That's a thing they changed on the remake. In the original version you don't actually need to go into the bonus at all to get the gems like you do in N. Sane Trilogy.

Death abusing is faster because it gets rid of the great... but you missed "x" boxes cutscene and it also resets cycles as well, making them predictable!

That does make sense. I started playing this again today on my pc and there are levels I question your sanity on like the bridge level, I had rope running it, it took me almost 7 game overs to beat it lol

It's faster to Game Over abuse in Sunset Vista, so optimally you want to enter said level with 0 lives. So spinning away lives/intentionally not grabbing them is part of the lives management.

Optimally, you want to game over in Sunset Vista, so it's faster to enter that level with 0 lives, so I avoid a lot of lives to get there exactly with 0.

If you die after a checkpoint you get rid of the cutscene at the end of the level that drops on Crash's head the boxes you didn't break. I don't necessarily death abuse in the first checkpoints all the time, I death abuse in the ones that will give me the best cycles since dying also resets the cycles.

The deaths are purposely , there's a long cutscene activated when you don't die in the end of each level. And this guy has the WR 😘

Principalmente, porque hay una escena al final de cada nivel en la cual el juego le tira en la cabeza a Crash las cajas que no rompiste en el nivel, pero morir después de un checkpoint hace que esa escena no aparezca. Es bastante conveniente porque el juego tiene algo que se llama "ciclos globales", esto quiere decir que los ciclos están activos desde que pusiste el juego. Sin embargo, el morir resetea los ciclos entonces los vuelve más predecibles y más rápidos, es por eso que simplemente no morimos en el último checkpoint, a veces es más rápido morir en otros checkpoints.

Hello, sorry for the later response, we death abuse after a checkpoint for 3 different reasons: 1) To get rid of the you missed "X amount of boxes" cutscene at the end of a level. 2) To reset cycles. Since cycles are constantly working during the game, dying resets them and makes the level or/and the level after predictable. 3) To keep lives low for the "new" Sunset Vista game over abuse that saves like 17 seconds over the previous Sunset strats. Hope that answered your question!
