Look, I went and made a cryptic crossword about F1. We've all done silly things in our time. Play it here: crosswordhobbyist.com/1004173...
Granted, the types of clue here are very common in British crossword puzzles, they might be a bit ludicrous for anyone not familiar.

@@TypicallyThomas I think that’s just how cryptic crosswords work. I don’t think most people would be able to do this unless they have familiarity with the conventions of cryptic crosswords. Ive never done a cryptic crossword and didn’t have any luck trying it myself, but I enjoyed the explanation and it seemed to make enough sense once you realize the rules of this game are not like most people would assume at first. I thought it was a really interesting and creative idea and video

Well if you do a lot of cryptic crosswords, it's easy. Also if you're in Britain you're more likely to know that tor means hill (Glastonbury tor is a hill and also a "tor"). Also "the french" is almost always le or la, and so "that french" would always be the french word for "that", i.e. "que". When you know that something leads que to make revolutionary force (the definition is always on one end, and it can't be hill because "leads" is obvious wordplay and "revolutionary force" can't be wordplay) so you have ___que meaning "revolutionary force" you can usually get torque even if you don't know that tor means hill

Cryptic crosswords are like Latin, you dedicate an absurd amount of time to understand the nuances and meanings of clues, being completely indecipherable to anyone else, while also immensely redundant.

Super excited to have two great passtimes combined - thanks for doing this! I found it tricky but they were mostly 'gettable' in the end. Having made a few cryptics myself I'm very aware that it's hard to set the difficulty because clues often seem obvious to the one making them while being almost impossible for someone else who doen't think exactly the same way as you.

Gosh.... I took the "Monsieur Dash" clue a bit differently, yet got the same result. Basically I translated "Monsieur" as "Mr.", and the "Dash" as the symbol "-". So in saying that over 99% of drivers could be called "Mr ---", basically they can be called "Mister", and then their name follows in the Dash part, like what you would normally see when filling out a form etc. Wrong logic, got there in the end ASHGDGHSD.
