I make up a few bottles and put them in the fridge, then warm them up when needed using the Tommee Tippee bottle warmer, and when she’s used the last one I sterilise them and make them up again. I still wait up to 30 mins for the kettle to cool before making them though, as if the water is too hot it can kill the nutrients in the milk too.

I think it's because of where the advice comes from. I've been researching this a lot this week... The World Health Organisation recommends making up one bottle at a time but their advice is going into underdeveloped countries as well. Other organisations say if you have clean water sources and a suitable fridge then making up and keeping in the fridge for 24hrs is okay. 😅

OMG I never really appreciate how much easier to breast feed. I always thought bottles and formula is much easier and was a little bit jealous looking at mums who chose formula to breast milk. I did breastfeed all my 3 babies up to 1 year. Our first one had 55 flights by the 1,5 year age. I can not imagine all that travel with bottle feeding. Thats just something I would never manage. Good video with very handy tips. Although I plan to breastfeed my 4th one, still good to know about bottles, just in case. Thank you!

If it wasn’t for my ability of not getting my baby to latch I’d breast feed. Instead I do pump so using bottles aswell

Wow we was told boiling water kills the vitimins etc in the formula, what we have been doing is boiling the kettle waiting 25 mins making two bottles one for the feed and one for the fridge for his following feed, then repeating, as don't like leaving bottles in fridge for more than 4 hours,

It’s up to 30 minutes, you don’t actually have to wait 30 minutes to make it. Also a lot of your advice is not what the midwives or HV recommend recently. I asked about making feeds up like the prep machine would but apparently you need enough hot water proportionate to sterilise the formula, otherwise you can make babies sick. As for storing in the fridge, the constant opening & closing of the door will create a change in temperature that causes bacteria to grow in the ready made bottle you’re storing. They’d be ideal ways to make life easier but the safest way is to make it straight from the kettle and run it under cold water or stick it in a jug of cold water. You are allowed to boil a kettle & take a flask to bed with you though to make feeds up in the bedroom because it’ll keep hot water at a hot enough temperature, as long as it’s a decent flask & you only use it for the baby. I love your other videos a lot but please keep your advice updated because it can be super confusing to FTMs otherwise

I'd be making a new video every 2 months if I went by what midwives & HVs say. I don't understand your MW because the new "tip off" as of this week is that we shouldn't pour boiling hot water straight into bottles. These are 4 different methods that have been used for years and as far as I know going back through the generations of the people I know, nobody's died, nobody got ill. Don't let midwives scare you into decisions. They say no to the prep machine, but if it was really going to harm babies, they wouldn't make them. I will do an updated video when it's necessary ♡

@@lottiejlife not totally disagreeing with what you are saying. But just want to pin point your comment about 'if they were going to harm babies they wouldn't make them'. They make a lot of baby products that actually can be harmful to babies. Think baby bumpers, the AAP says to not use them due to safety concerns. But they are still made and you can purchase them. So I would just add that that way of thinking can actually be quite harmful. I would just say for everyone to always do your own research and talk to your doctors.

If you’re prepping a days worth of bottles you can put powder into the bottles first and then use one to measure out the water. Saves forgetting how many scoops you’ve put into a full bottle 🤦🏼‍♀️

Otherwise just take the sterilised bottles and make them as you go in the night? First time mum and decided to bottle feed last minute and baby due any day now so having a flap 🤣🤣

This is so helpful!! I'm expecting my first baby in few weeks time so this video was very informative to watch. Thank you for uploading and sharing your experience. X There is one thing I'm abit confused about. Recently I went to "mamas and papas" to buy the tommee tippee prep mashine as I heard really good reviews about it!! but the lady that was working there told me the flask is much better than the mashine for night feeds, travelling etc. I thought flask was more convenient travelling? I didn't end up buying the prep mashine as I thought I would give it some time and ask more people for some advice like yourself if it's worth buying it or keeping just the flask. What would you recommend for a first time mum to be with no experience with babies lol. X

Thank you so much! I am so glad this video has already helped someone !! I personally tried the flask for night feeds a couple times & I found that by about 4am the water in it was not as hot as it was when you first put it in, so I worried that it wouldn't be hot enough to make up the bottles & it definitely wasn't hot enough to warm them up from the fridge. If that makes sense? I know it works for some people but I think if you want the least amount of faff, the prep machine is the quickest & a flask is good for out & about. Congratulations on your little bubba!! ❤

So glad this video helped you! Sorry for the late reply. So if your baby has drunk from the bottle and there is some left over, then use within an hour - saliva creates bacteria after this. And I'd say use a freshly made bottle with 2 hours. Hope this helps xx

Thank you for this video it really has helped me to understand on how to make these bottles I got one question if I would get the prep machine straight away I have noticed it’s 4oz the smallest amount you can make but then I’ve looked online that first the baby should have from 1 to 2 oz how would you recommend on doing this maybe start the kettle first then when they want the 4oz do the prep machine ? So confused lol
@lottiejlife
@lottiejlife 3 жыл бұрын
Glad the video helped my lovely! So if I could go back I would use the prep machine from the very beginning for the night feeds, even when they only drink 1-2oz. I know it wastes a couple oz, but it's so much quicker when they wake up crying in the middle of the night and you can just stop them after 1-2oz. Then you can make up 1-2oz bottles from scratch through the day for day feeds because you have more time. I hope that makes sense? 😂 Congratulations btw! ♥

It should be 70 degrees, making bottles with a shot of hot water and adding cold like the prep machine does not sterilise all the formula powder and is completely pointless. To make a safe bottle you need to match the oz of powder to the oz of hot water every time

What about the bacteria in the baby powder formula how would you kill it? x
@atinyoctopus9518
@atinyoctopus9518 2 жыл бұрын
@@Shining-Star- it depends on the health of your child's immune system and the type of formula you use. We use Gerber soothe pro which states not to heat the formula over 100 degrees or it'll compromise the probiotics 🤷‍♀️ so if I nuke my formula to kill bacteria then I destroy the whole purpose of it. It's something you should discuss with your pediatric Dr and if you have concerns always err on the side of caution.
