FAQ: (Questions that are asked to me OFTEN, will answer here)
Q: Why is a small portion of the video completely muted?
A: Copyright reasons. Sometimes I get hit with copyright claims AFTER the video has already been posted, my only choice is to refute the claim but if KZfaq denies it, I have to either take down the video or mute the small portion they are claiming. If the video has been up for a while, it is much easier for me to mute this small portion in the YT studio and then unmute it months later after people aren't watching the video as much.
Q: Why is the movie not as loud as I want it to be, why can't you show more of it uncut?
A: Copyright reasons. Notice a pattern here? Most of your questions will likely be answered with some type of copyright related reason.
Q: Why is the movie footage flipped?
A: Again, copyright reasons. I am watching the movie the normal way, it is only flipped for the video.

As a trauma survivor, Jenny is damaged from what her Father did to her. She feels like she is worthless and doesn't deserve someone as wonderful as Forrest. She also doesn't want to commit to him, not facing her demons and hurt him worse without resolving her own issues

@@jasonknotts5001 She got scared?! Then why wouldn't you want to marry the father of your child that always loved you ONCE she had come to her senses? Unfortunately, she had to have a kid (and possibly the illness) to realize the mistakes she had been making. It's kind of a shallow way to look at it as just wanting to marry him because he was then rich honestly. People change.

For real. Witnessing people’s reactions to Jenny and her choices makes me understand how poorly I am understood as a survivor of the same traumas she went through. It pretty much sucks. I have hope that society is becoming more trauma-informed, and specifically more complex childhood trauma-informed, but comment sections really make me lose hope.

According to Tom Hanks, this is what Forrest said at the Washington monument: “Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don’t go home at all. That’s a bad thing. That’s all I have to say about that.” Gary Sinese plays in a band called the Lieutenant Dan Band for the US troops, and he does VERY MUCH more for them and their families as well since he was in this movie.

Good reaction. I think you have to look at the journey for both characters. I understand Jenny and her struggles. Her mom died and her father drank and started physically, sexually and emotionally abusing his daughters. She never got therapy or a loving family. Nobody loved her but Forest and it took her a while to stop numbing her pain and accepting that love. Too bad she was sick by then. Many life lessons in this heartfelt film. I love the music too.😊

I feel like you missed that in the movie, Elvis learnt his moves from Forest. As the mum walked in Forest was doing Elvis's signature move. When she left, he asked Forest to show it to him again and Forest saw Elvis later doing it on TV. The Kennedy footage was also real - they superimposed Hanks onto someone else Kennedy was talking to. That’s why he looked so real. It was real.

One of my biggest takeaways from this movie is how important a supportive family can be to a child. Forrest had challenges, more so than many... but he had a loving, supportive mother who did whatever she could to give him as much a normal life as possible. As a result, he thrived and excelled at whatever he tried and he approached everything and everyone with a pure heart. Jenny didn't have the same challenges as Forrest, she had all the potential and ambition to make something of herself... but she had a traumatic childhood riddled with abuse, and no support system to guide her. So as a result, her life spiraled out of control and she spent most of it running from man to man, movement to movement... always trying to find her place but never really fitting in. Jenny always loved Forrest... it wasn't that she didn't love him too. But she had such low self esteem she didn't believe she was worthy enough to be with him. So she always pushed him away thinking he was too good for her. This is a common thing with trauma survivors... it takes them a long time to come to terms with their past and learn that they are in fact, worthy of good things. Jenny finally got there in the end, but unfortunately it was too late for her to have a happily ever after with Forrest.

Actually there were plans for a sequel. The original novel has a sequel called Gump and Co., which was adapted into a screenplay in 2001. The script was submitted a day before the 9/11 attacks. After 9/11, Hanks, Zemeckis, & screenwriter Eric Roth decided the story was no longer relevant. Paramount took another look at the project in 2007 but nothing ever came of it. "Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." Fun Fact: The girl in the school bus with the red hair is Tom Hanks's daughter, Elizabeth Hanks. Music Enthusiast Fact: Inspired by Lieutenant Dan Taylor, the military veteran character he played in this movie, Gary Sinise co-founded a rock and roll cover band called "The Lt. Dan Band" during the mid-2000s. The band often goes on USO tours to play for U.S. military personnel stationed around the world and also plays various benefits for veteran-related causes. Sinise was awarded the Presidential Citizen Medal in 2008 for his charity efforts. Double Duty Fact: In the movie there are four actors/actresses who play multiple roles. Gary Sinise plays Lieutenant Dan as well as all of his ancestors. Mykelti Williamson plays Benjamin Beaufort "Bubba" Blue, as well as the waiter opening Dr. Pepper bottles when Forrest meets JFK as an All-American. Sally Field plays Forrest's mom, as well as a male reporter during Forrest's run across America. Tom Hanks plays both Forrest and his Confederate ancestor.

Jenny knows she’s messed up and doesn’t want to drag Forrest down with her. Think about the way she had him touch her breast and how he reacted like a frightened, nervous child. It l pop robably reminded her of things her dad had done. Running away from Forrest after that was probably her attempt at protecting him. And those clips look like jfk and Nixon because they are. They added Tom Hanks to actual footage.

The blonde girl in the red and white dress in the school bus is Toms daughter Elizabeth. Back in the 50’s kids like Forrest probably would have been put into mental asylums which is why his mom fought so hard for him. Tom based Forrest’s speech on the kid who played him as a kid because he was from that part of Alabama, the kid never did another movie and when he graduated from high school he went into the army. A lot of people get angry with Jenny from running away but they don’t seem to catch on to the fact that her father was sexually abusing her. In those days people like her didn’t go to therapy to deal with their problems. There was going to be a sequel where Forrest was raising his son who had Aids from Jenny and they were going to meet Princess Diana and be near the Oklahoma bombing and other 90’s events but the script showed up the day before or the day after 9/11 and Tom and the director decided the movie had no meaning anymore. Actor Kurt Russell did the voice of Elvis because he had already done an Elvis biopic movie. I recently read that Toms brother was his stunt double and it’s actually him running down the road after Forrest leaves his house. People seem to forget that back when Jenny was pregnant they didn’t have cellphones and that Forrest was running for over 3 years so she wouldn’t have been able to let him know she was pregnant with his kid.

It is basically that a time in Forrest's life that he desperately wanted to contact her, and couldn't, then in reverse for Jenny. They tried to make a sequel. Forrest is from Alabama. Back then they had a very famous coach, Bear Bryant, who had an iconic style. If someone was going to film a story about a guy going to college in Alabama during those years on a sports scholarship, having him play football is the most cinematic choice. The visuals alone justify choosing football. With Jenny's story, I think you somehow missed the implications of what her father was doing to her. She was dealing with a great deal of trauma. It took a long time for her to get to a better place in her life. I don't think she was ever trying to hurt Forrest.

Sorry for not getting this point across in the video (also probably didn't help that I exaggerate quite a bit) but I completely understand the trauma Jenny went through and how that led to a lot of how she acted around Forrest. You've probably already found out that there is a very good reason all the famous people looked so real. They used actual news archive videos of those people that they made over with CGI to sinc the lip movement and insert Tom Hanks. It was beautifully done as was the dialog. Now you can understand why there are so many quotes from this movie in pop culture. Forrest had to have the best writer in Hollywood. He had the all time best lines of any movie character throughout the picture. If you liked Tom Hanks and Gary Sinise in this film (they are very good friends irl) you need to watch "Apollo 13" from 1995. It's a mostly factual account of the the ill-fated Apollo 13 moon mission of 1970. There are some spectacular actors in it and another good friend of Tom Hanks I think you'll like did the directing 😉. If you haven't already seen it you really should.

I found Jenny to be the most compelling character in the movie. She was repeatedly sexually assaulted as a small child by her father, and in those days they would just move the child to a new place to live, and think that would solve the problem. They never provided therapy for abuse victims. The way that she was acting out is very typical of girls who have been through that in their childhood. The drugs, the abusive men, the suicidal thoughts, and the fact that she had nothing to bass a normal relationship on other than what her father did to her, prevented her from feeling she was worth having a real relationship with Forest. It still amazes me when people don’t pick up on that. Robin Wright’s performance was amazing. By the way, when she realized that she was pregnant with Forest’s child when he was off running for 3 1/2 years. She had no way to reach him.

22:00 Unfortunately you cut out the TV Show scene with John Lennon. After watching this movie a dozen times I didnt realize for a long time that Forrest even gave Lennon the idea for one of his most famous songs "Imagine" when he talked about his time in China saying they dont have much and then Lennon asked "No possessions?" which would be a quote in his song later on.

I love this movie but it took some time for me to truly appreciate it. Some of that was because I didn't understand the deeper meaning of it but also because I saw it at least once a year in history class during middle school and high school. This movie and Remember the Titans (for gym class) were shown so frequently that I got annoyed with it after awhile. I also understand your feelings toward Jenny, and you're right that she does mess with his emotions quite a bit. The main reason she makes the decisions she does is because of her upbringing. That's not to say it absolves her of her actions, it just explains the reasoning behind them. Like, when she tells Forrest he doesn't know what love is, that's more her projecting her own insecurities onto him than truly believing he's too stupid. Also, it's understandable that people believe Jenny died of AIDS, but the author of the book this movie is based off of confirmed she actually died of Hepatitis C from using so many needles/syringes while doing drugs. And honestly, given the context that she has a child and Little Forrest is presumably healthy, it makes better sense. Women with HIV/AIDS have a much higher risk of passing the virus onto their child, and that would have just made the whole story of Forrest Gump even more tragic. If their son actually had HIV too it would defeat the whole message of this film and Forrest would have lost his purpose in life.

Any discussion about the character of Jenny needs to start with her upbringing, and how that affected her life and making decisions. Especially around the time of the hippie age starting up and drugs becoming rampant. She just doesn't see the world as most of us see it. I think she turned out alright but her destructive decisions caught up with her, even if she was lucky enough to survive the drugs themselves.

This is an opportunity for you to to do some research into childhood sexual trauma. She had a tragic childhood. It takes lots of people that go through it decades to process it and heal. Some can never totally process and heal from it. We should empathize with Jenny if we can't sympathize.

I'm aware. Sorry I didn't get that point across in the video. I can empathize with someone while also thinking her actions are wrong. Her actions aren't just suddenly justified because she's been through awful trauma in the past. Saying "I hate her" was an exaggeration.

Thank you for this. I see my own childhood best friend in Jenny, both in her personality and her nearly identical life circumstances right down to passing away far too young. People like she and Jenny are basically in constant fight or flight mode because they don’t know stability, they never had it. So when they come across it, it scares them and they run. Their actions may not be justifiable to a “sane” person, but they make sense in their own minds. Trust me when I say, they hate themselves more than anyone else ever could, so it chaps my ass when people kick them more while they’re already down by implying they’re inherently evil people who enjoy hurting others when the majority of the time, that’s not the case at all. We don’t have to excuse their actions, but we need to try and understand them if we’re ever going to help them.

Sorry but I agree with him. Just because she's been through trauma, her actions aren't instantly acceptable. I've met people who went through worse than her, and they're amazing people. They never took it out on anyone else. I empathize with their trauma, while still reserving my right to know when they're wrong in certain situations.

@@iulia.bianca.b Did I say it was acceptable? I'm saying it's understandble not acceptable. I'm saying we shouldn't vilify and hate Jenny and seek to understand. Tom hanks is so good at doing just simple things with his character he’s not overly complicated he’s just a guy with some problems but smart in other ways but having it have a big impact on the story is great. Not even a complicated story either I like them showing 2 sides to life & while Jenny certainly isn’t the best person for Forrest he still had faith in her till the end & she turned her life around on her own

What I think a lot of people don't or can't really understand is the amount of damage that was done to Jenny by the abuse inflicted upon her as a child. Let me repeat that... as a child. And not just physical abuse. Sexual abuse. So while she may have done things unfair to Forrest and mistreated him. It should be noted she was messed up, majorly. She probably didn't think she deserved love and/or understood what love was. The scene where she was going to kill herself is a HUGE indication of her mental turmoil. You aren't the only one to not like what Jenny did to Forrest. And while it may not make it okay, it is important to note and understand how truly messed up she was, through no fault of her own.
@MovieFusion

Oh trust me, I completely understand that. She certainly went though a lot, which likely caused her to do the certain things that I didn’t like (mainly with Forrest). Most bad things people do in life tend to be because of something bad that happened to them. Still doesn’t justify it, it just explains it.

1. The music rights alone must have cost a small fortune💲💲 2. Kurt Russel did the voice for Elvis. 3. IRL Sally Fields is only 10 years older than Tom Hanks. 4. Having gotten his degree Forrest would have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. Not a recruit. His ASVAB kills that. 5. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around. 6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date. 5. Jenny did indeed give him the best gift ever (it wasn't the shoes)😋 8. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony.. 9. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he loses his. 10. At the rally Forrest says, "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that." 11. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis, John Lennon, Abby Hoffman to Vietnam and Watergate. Even the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking. 13. "Sometimes I guess there're aren't enough rocks" 14. Haley Joel Osmentt/Forrest Jr. steals the show in "AI " and "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis. 15. Often when he's finishing a segment about death, he ends it by saying "That's all I have to say about that" 16 Keep in mind if Jenny wasn't wasting her life seeking men like her father and was with Forrest he/we wouldn't have had this incredible journey.

There are some great classic movies from 1940-1980 that are neglected by millennial reactors. The technology and style was very different from later films, but you can't really understand today's movies without at least a little knowledge of cinematic history. I've only found one reactor who focuses on the older films, but I wish more did, if only to better understand how we got to today's movies. Everyone should see the ultimate classic Casablanca at least once in their lives...

I find it funny how you can understand lieutenant Dan's trauma and how he felt after the war, but didn't understand Jenny and her childhood trauma, being sexually and physically abused by her father, and the self destructive path that she was on on. Forrest had his mother who loved him, so he knew what love was,she was the one who didn't, but she knew she was broken thats why she said, you don't want to marry me, then she told him she did love him and after they slept together, she left to go get herself together then she found out she was pregnant, and Forrest was off running for over three yrs,and they didn't have cell phones then, so she got in touch with him when he came home.
