Thirty years ago, I was in small city in US. I took a bus but, unfortunately, I forgot that I had only 100 US banknote. The bus will not give you the change and I cannot put 100 US in money drop box for ticket fare. I talked to the driver, he just pointed his finger to the bus door and ask me to leave that last bus of that day, LOL. If this was happen in Thailand, I am sure that I get on that bus without paying 100 US.

I've been working for a large PLC remotely for about 7 years and 5 of these years i stayed living and working from a remote village in India, I have lots of family here and a family home, but the village life has kinda been taking its toll, I visited Phuket in July for about a month, and since then been literally raping KZfaq for videos about moving to Thailand. A big factor for “entrepreneurs” to locate in Thailand depends if they’re single or a family with kids. Like any big move, the adults in charge need to check the place out for 3-4 weeks before moving the whole dang family abroad. Expat clubs, international schools and Google search can help out- getting your information from a bar fly is not a good source. Being without kids is less of a hassle where you live but a family has more restrictions with kids. I worked & lived in the Pattaya area for over 14 years and there are nice, luxurious villa communities ( compounds) btw but you have to live in the area to know where they’re located. There are 3-4 accredited private international schools ranging from $12,000-$18,000 per year. Plenty of shopping malls (3) and decent beaches to visit outside of Pattaya city. The nice thing about Pattaya is that it’s only a hour - hour & half drive to Bangkok. Choosing a tropical island to live with a family limits your choice of decent schools for your children, average to below average hospitals, higher cost of living ( housing, food, entertainment) and life on Phuket or Koh Samui becomes like living in a fish bowl. Despite Pattaya’s seedy reputation ( in certain parts of the tourist ghettos), there are a lot of expats living in the vicinity because of the Eastern Seaboard industrial zone where the professional fathers ( or mothers) are employed by international companies from the USA, Europe, Japan, South Korea , Taiwan and other countries. Like many working professionals, ( they live in condos or housing compounds in or around Pattaya & Sri Racha) I never ran into the crazy scenes one reads about in Pattaya since I was always asleep by 11:00pm and was not hanging at the bars after work ( usually at one of the decent fitness centers or jogging along the beach promenade). If you can afford to send your children to a decent international school, ( with foreign employed teachers) your children will adapt a lot quicker than the adults; for, their social circle will be at the school. If they’re happy, you as a parent will be happy.

I've spent roughly $3,000 on rent in the past YEAR in Koh Samui. 🏝️ I'd be lucky to find a studio apartment for rent in most major US cities for $3,000 PER MONTH. Here on the island, my house is about 10 minutes from the nearest beautiful beach. 🏖️ In Los Angeles, it would be about 20 minutes from the nearest homeless encampment with regular gang warfare and gun violence. 💀 What's my point? The cost of living is unreasonably high in America and the overall quality of life is deplorable. It's becoming the most expensive place to live in the world with a large wealth gap and stagnant wages. Yet most people don't even stop to think outside the box because they have no frame of reference. This is a message to those trapped in the rat race. Go where you are treated best and screw the rest!

Appreciate this video and your input. I've been to Thailand a number of times and now seriously thinking of moving next year, mainly because the cost of living here has skyrocketed which is totally understandable with all of these countries printing so much money, devaluating the currency and making prices jump. Not sure if I agree with the idea that the US has become more divided and angry. Since you recorded this 8 months ago and the pandemic is over, we're learning to live together again. The good thing is the pandemic has changed our views on what an office looks like. Hope to meet up with you one day.

I think the smart people are those who have their passive earnings in USD and living a luxury lifestyle in places like Koh Samui, Phuket, Penang, Kuala Lumpur etc. You just simply get so much more in these places, drop dead gorgeous sceneries, food & amazing people. In my honest opinion, the west has forgotten basic civilities. Self interest & selfishness drives western ambitions, whilst in the East, family & traditional values still matter. We really need to go back to teaching our folks, integrity, honour, fair play & compassion. We have fallen far indeed. We use to be the envy of the world.. not anymore..
@irrationalmale

Don't speak for the west. Speak for your own country. Tell me what you know about "the west." Give me a description of it and the countries involved. And what exactly is the East? Let us be honest, you are just running your mouth and have no clue what you are babbling on about.
@AlvoLong

@@AlvoLong Everything you said was wrong because it was based on personal prejudice and bigotry. You don't know the hearts of minds of everybody in the so-called west or the so-called east. You can't even define these words. In a way, I feel sorry for you, because if everybody you know is rotten where you live, that is no way to live life. I lived 13 years outside the US, my country, and the grass is not greener on the other side. There is good and bad wherever you go. There is no perfect Asian country. That is just a myth. Wherever you go, one thing is for sure, you can't run away from yourself.
@AlvoLong
@AlvoLong Жыл бұрын
Look, I am not certainly looking for an Asian or whatever uptopia, all I am saying in general is that we all need to be civil & practice kindness towards each other, how warped and wrong am I to say this? I mean you no disrespect.
@irrationalmale
@irrationalmale Жыл бұрын
@@AlvoLong There is nothing wrong with that, but that general sentiment that you are expressing now is unrelated to your original post. Saying West bad, East good is not the same as holding hands and singing kumbaya. These are two different notions entirely. If you want to be civil and kind, then perhaps you need to revisit what you wrote in the OP, which is based on prejudice and bigotry and has no relationship to the real world.

What you discussed is true with regards to the current climate in the US - things are slowly circling the drain. The expensive cost of living (with or without inflation), the toxic social narratives being jammed in your face daily, the arena of politics which is more about a shouting match instead of healthy debate and exchange of ideas, and of course cancel culture - being shamed and silenced simply because you have an alternative view or opinion. I'm planning to retire in 6-7 years and SE Asia is on my radar. In the next couple of years I plan to use some vacation time to go explore places like the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia to see which might be the best fit.

It's not difficult to obtain a retirement visa if you meet the financial requirements. Put the money inthe bank, let it "season" and apply for a one year extension.

Ive been to Thailand many times and wouldn't mind living there if they made it much easier to get a retirement visa or any visa that allows you to live there long term without having to report to immigration every 3 months. And they keep changing the immigration rules so you never know even if you think you're good, it can change. The Thailand Elite visa gives you 5 years there, but it's not worth giving them 22,000 USD for the privilege of living there. Plus the heat and humidity drive me crazy after awhile. I really enjoy sitting in an outdoor cafe with a nice cool breeze rather than sweating my ass off there.

@@cabowabo5557 Hi CaboWabo555, I have been living here in Cuernavaca Mexico for many years. I've been paying about $400 USD for a 2 bedroom furnished apartment within walking distance of everything I need. The weather here the entire year is 75 during the day and 60s at night with low humidity. The visa situation for me is much simpler than Thailand because I just cross the border every 6 months either by bus or plane. The other alternatives are the Phillippines where you can stay there for about 3 years if you keep going to immigration there and renewing your visa. You do have to leave after 3 years so you can fly to Thailand or Singapore and come back and start the process over again for another 3 years. The republic of Georgia also allows Americans to stay there for 1 year upon arrival which is very good.

@@cabowabo5557 Hi, My mother owned a condo in Pattaya for many years and she loved it there. I visited many times and like I said if it were possible to live there without a huge hassle I probably would. In Thailand if you overstay your visa for any reason you have to pay a pretty stiff fine or you could possibly be imprisoned. My mother lived there for over 12 years on a Retirement Visa, but because she developed Alzheimer's she didn't report to immigration there for a few months and when I took her out of the country I had to pay for her overstay about $800 USD. In Mexico pretty much the worst thing that can happens if you overstay is you pay about $40 USD at the airport when you leave. So big difference there. If you could do me a favor when you're there could you find out what I would have to do to stay there long term in Pattaya? If you could go to an office there where they have an attorney who could give me all the options.

I’m sure he’s not that stupid. It’s fine to criticize the US, but if you give up your citizenship, then you give up the ability to fly back and make great money. Thailand has an emerging economy, and it will likely never catch up to the US, not in our lifetimes. You also want access to US medical care when you’re old and on Medicare.

A formula one racer wins the race and gives no credit to the car. This happens to lots of entrepreneurs who make it in the US, hit their higher earning years, and give no credit to their country which is very business friendly. Try to become a multi-millionaire from the ground up in non-capitalist countries. Even Elon Musk is tax evading California where an incredible education and tech infrastructure was built 'for him' with tax dollars that he's taken full advantage of. How could he have built Tesla without an educated workforce? Libertarianism on full display.

life is what you make it anywhere. . Thailand is no "better'' or no "worse"than any other place. Your friend should think very carefully before uprooting his whole family and moving to Thailand. If he were single or simply married, I'd say the story would be a lot different. Also, its insanely naive to think that moving to Thailand will get you far away from social division and issues politically, if you know anything about this country, you will know that there are serious issues bubbling under the surface that aren't going anywhere anytime soon, granted, I believe the young generation is on a good path to change all this. That doesn't mean that one should have this idea that the social/political climate is hunky-dory

This disillusionment with the US is misplaced. The US is the best place to run a business. We have the luxury of being American citizens and the privileges that come with it. Remember, most poor folks from other countries would love the chance to work in the US and earn US dollars. Then repatriate that money to their home country.

Here we have a military guy who never owned any business of any importance in either the USA or Thailand and with no knowledge of owning a business he starts consulting about doing business in Thailand ha ha ha Thailand shows great value for Money, hence your USD goes much further in Thailand, which is one positive side of the coin. Thailand is great if you have some money and like to spend it. But earning Money in Thailand as a foreign entrepreneur is the opposite. First of all, Thailand is a corrupt country, second, as a Farang you are not equal to a Thai if you run into any legal problem, from a simple car incident to a business dispute. Many Thais are not the hardest workers, they don't show up and if you have a problem with one of your Thai staff you might have a problem with all. The Thais generally do not want to do business with a Farang, a lot of Thais are not that trustworthy, with the exception of the Chinese / Thais. You need a good Lawyer to buy land within a Thai Ltd. Making Money as an entrepreneur anywhere is difficult, not only in the USA, every country has its own problems, but if you can't make it in the USA for sure you can't in Thailand. Selling your business and retiring in Thailand, is the way, if you can stay away from alcohol and sex workers, in case you are married.
