I bought a PS5 today and this was the first game I bought and played on it. Glad I didn't listen to reviews and made my own decision.

I just started and bested it in two days I absolutely love this game I fell in love with it and I’ll never regret loving it or playing it

I've been this game 3 times since launch with about 200 hours in it so far and I still cannot get enough of the gameplay. I also like how the story starts of and ends, easily the best of it with some good surprises popping up in the latter half. There is some good environmental story telling but you have to enjoy exploring and pay attention to the landscape and the various nooks and crannys. What surprised me is that when I got Hogwarts Legacy, I found the world very engaging but the combat was so stale and reputative, that I couldn't care enough about the story to finish it, despite it having much more variety, characters and nuance. I only got about 60 hours in before putting it down. I am still playing Forspoken, though I do plan on getting back to Hogwarts before the year is up, it's just not nearly as fun to play or even explore. I don't feel Forspoken is worth it's $70 price tag, but in a bid to support the game I pre ordered it with the DLC which I am glad is still coming. I think it is a terrible shame that rampant misinformation and uninspired reviewers all shared the same sheep mentality when it came to the game, acting like the dialogue was so bad they themselves must have never seen a single anime in their lives. Because it is set up for a sequal, and the ways in which they could expand the sequel, what with the break being defeated could have really made it for one of the greatest open world sand box experiences ever. I do think this is by miles the best magical combat I have ever had the pleasure to experience in a game. It almost reminds me of the godliness the first [PROTOTYPE] makes you feel(That is if you understand the mechanics and your abilities well enough] by the end of the game. You become an unstoppable force of nature among other unstoppable forces of nature.

People saying Frey should be way happier now that she's away from her awful opening situation clearly have both never thought through all the troubling and negative implications of suddenly traveling to a fantasy land lacking in the vast majority of our amenities and medicines and such (and for me, an IBS sufferer, toilets and [modern] toilet paper), *and* don't truly understand the nature of trauma (and how it follows you no matter where you go). I'm glad you made this video, as it often feels like I'm very much one of the few who really likes this game (despite the flaws). Mostly-positive videos on Forspoken are hard to find.

The combat seems to be its saving grace

This game really feels like a game made by the FFXV team. It's like a puzzle with the pieces that don't quite fit as a cohesive whole. Know what I mean? Lot's of creative decisions that seems to put roadblocks instead of elevating the game.

I’m at 14 hours in and it’s been one of my favorite games in quite a while honestly. Sucks there was a bandwagon of hate created. The story and lore is interesting, and the combat and traversal is a blast. I just hope the following of players that like it like us is enough to have it recoup some money.. otherwise at least we got this one off game.

I grabbed this game this past winter when Epic was doing an insane discount, got it for $17 after tax. Absolutely had a BLASTTT.

I'm waiting for a price drop because there are very few games I'm willing to pay full price for but it looks really good.

Nice video and good to see other people that like it, I just binged through it recently and its some of the best fun ive had. Its basically the cool magic from Dragons Dogma but put out at a much faster pace I loved it. And as you say, we dont get many magic combat games. Its also one of the most extreme cases of a hate train ive ever seen, just seeing your poor dislike bar as with other videos that speak positively of the game, the hate for the game is unnatural and overblown which is frustrating. Not to say the game is perfect, but its good where it counts in the core gameplay. Shame we probably wont see a sequel.

I do think if the game was a tad cheaper people wold not give it as much flak but 70$ is a big pill for someone to swollen especially if your on a budget and can't aford to bie tuns of games every year.

Thank you! I was on the fence with this game after I committed to a pre-order last year fall with all the negative press its been getting. All the youtube content I've encountered has a massive hate-on for this game. I find myself enjoying this game and can't agree with all the negativity thrown at it. Aside from it possibly boiling down to getting clicks for the sake of joining the bandwagon. I just don't see it the way they do. Frey's character is fine. Hell, given her circumstances and upbringing, i get her and why she is the way she is and can't fault her for coming off 'harsh' or 'abrasive' The game is solid. It plays well and above all fun. I wouldn't object to it selling cheaper instead of that full $70 and if it did, it may take some of the vinegar out its launch. If you're interested, give it a chance. Take the plunge now or wait for a sale. Either way, the game I feel deserves a bit more love.

Its wild how people are coving this game so I really do appreciate your detailed, non-reactionary look at it, especially given the studios history this game has been very interesting to watch. Unfortunately, feel like the game is getting a bad shake even though the gameplay(combos and fluidity) and visuals really are pretty good.

I took a min for Frey to grow on me. Now I absolutely adore her. I think that in real life she would be the type to laugh at her own jokes. She can be corny at times, but that's the beauty of her design, she is simply human, faults, foul mouth, and all.

To be honest, I was on the fence about this game because I kept hearing people online say the game is so bad it’s so bad and to be honest with you I realize half these people have never made a game and I think the heat and salt probably comes from the fact that they played Final Fantasy 15 and are upset about the DLC contact that got canceled LOL and redirecting their hate to this game I mean personally to me from what I’ve seen the game delivers it looks good graphically I love the combat in the demo and I mean how do you expect somebody to act that’s been transported to a different fucking world let’s be honest I wouldn’t be a happy camper either I left my world and got transported to another world it would take time for anybody to integrate into a new place and getting a custom to what that is. just finished it yesterday, will play more exploring the whole map, gameplay is great. The story in essence is also great, but sadly poorly executed. If you cut all the gameplay and watch the whole story, it won't make sense.

I think we really under appreciate Hajime Tabata. The guy managed to salvage what FF15 previously be while the engine was being co develop with 15 and Square tossing Nomura left and right to a project.

I really don't understand the hate this Game is getting, Playing the Game Myself and it's pretty amazing, The battles, gameplay and huge World to explore, plus the graphics are simply Gorgeous, Some People just can't get into heavy story driven games they want the same old shooters and don't get me wrong I also love shooters, like halo, Wolfenstein, Doom, but I also love losing Myself in a fantasy story, games like Xenoblade chronicles were You can spent hours and hours exploring huge and amazing Worlds

I just picked this up for $25 on the Xbox pc app and I’m 4 chapters in and loving it so far. the opening and most of her dialogue so far is pretty cringe but the music, fantasy world, magic, exploration, traversal and combat are amazing. I’m playing on hard mode and though it’s no souls like I appreciate the bit of challenge it’s giving me. Def plan to play this one all the way through doing most side stuff on the way.

Should we compare Forspoken to The Callisto Protocol?

Admittedly I only played the demo, but I liked what I saw so I’ll be getting a copy early next week. To me it seems to be one of those games falling victim to the “cancel culture” mentality of social media. I’m sure it has its flaws, but I can already tell a lot if it is being blown way out of proportion. The dialogue/Frey seems to be a point of contention, but I see that as extremely subjective. There’s no metric for dialogue so I don’t get why people push it so hard like it’s objective. Anyway from what I’ve seen along with the demo it looks interesting with the whole “Alice In Wonderland” vibe.

Thank you. I have been arguing similar points about the world and the purpose of it in the story, while defending this game. It is nice to hear someone else appreciate it for what it is.

With all the people saying how terrible the dialogue is, I feel ashamed to admit that it was one of the best parts for me in the demo. I just love snarky chars, and the whole banter between the main char and her equipment makes it feel like a buddy movie (which I also enjoy).

It is a really good game. These reviewers shit on it for no reason. They never even gave it a chance. Its awesome.

When people complained about the game on Twitter, the clips they showed made me like the game more. The gameplay looks cool and while the character can get on people's nerves I think the ads from this game stuck in their heads. So they came in hating it and come out still hating it. I wish people would have an open mind, but they don't and they won't ever have one. It's a shame too because being a good game is fine not everything has to be 10/10.

So I just got done with a game from 2003 called _Primal._ Cool game but it's controls were *_jank as fuq._* I haven't heard particularly good things about Forspoken's controls but there are certainly elements of this game that remind me of Primal. Would it be fair to say that Forspoken _could be_ the spiritual successor to Primal?

Forspoken is Such a Underrated Game

I absolutely love this game. I got it for Xmas and I haven't been able to put it down, been playing for like 13 hours straight. This game is waaaaay better than FF16. I couldn't stay awake playing FF16 at all. Forspoken story is really good and I find it very relatable. I have no clue what's going on in FF16 story, that game is so bland, everything besides the combat sucks in FF16. Whoever is in charge at square Enix needs to be fired for putting all their efforts into FF16 this and rushing Forspoken. Forspoken should've been delayed until right before Xmas this year and used the FF16 team to help polish Forspoken after they put that sleeper of a game out.

The same exact thing that is happening with this game happened with days gone. Just like with days gone, I am so happy that I did not listen to all the negative press and reviews. Days gone was a really awesome game, and forspoken also is a great game so far for me.

I only played the demo but I saw more strengths than weaknesses. The fast paced gameplay is so exciting to play, and the graphics are stellar. I can't comment on the story but the dialogue "problems" were blown out of proportion. It was sad to see prominent members of the gaming community peddle a narrative based on a few clips of dialogue that wasn't even bad. I've heard worse dialogue in other games. Heck, life is strange had the cheesiest dialogue known to man and it's one of the reasons why I love the game, it added on to its charm. Another great video Rep can't wait to see more.

This game has potential. Combat and parkour is amazing. But it is for me almost unplayable. I want 60 fps = performance mode enabled. But performance mode runs in 720p and thats why it is super blurry. Cant see anything in combat when alot of stuff is happening on the screen. I really really hope they patch it. That it cant maintain stable fps when it looks like this is tbh a joke.

I dont really understand the criticism of the dialog. She's not some standard character who has the typical lines you'd expect from a hero(mostly). She seems to be her own character and her lines reflect that, she's a real person saying what an actual person might say. When shit happens she yells "fck fck fck fck" while running, and God damn if thsts not exactly what iv done when I hit my toes against something or drop something, etc. And when she does cool shit, she hypes herself up like I know we all do too. The talk between her and cuff seems real ans genuine, I mean how is anyone SUPPOSED to talk to a magical cuff locked on your arm? I love this game, while it does have notable flaws, I hate how people only focus on the things rhat aren't really genuine critiques

Dunno if this is comparable to Final Fantasy, as the design of the game is more western than eastern.

The main reason I wanted to play this game was the magic system advertised. I didn't really care about the rest. It's an isekai, so I can't expect much from the story but I care about the journey Frey is on after key events, with some well placed dialogue even if it's not always up to par. The magic system really feels like it's the successor to FF XV; what could have been if there had not been so many developmental issues and a need for an entirely new engine at the time, for example. XV was a disappointment for me; it started off OK, but it needed supplemental movies to make sense of how it started and was a shadow of what it was meant to be, with obvious cut content throughout and the world becoming increasingly empty as you got further in, which was sad. I don't think Forspoken needs more cities, although it wouldn't be bad to have some small settlements somehow surviving the corruption. I think that's what the cats and refuges were meant to fulfill in terms of respite and world building. The world does at times feel dead, (not in terms of how little there is to to, but in the way it looks) but that's intended and it has plenty of beautiful scenery, even in the dead, monochromatic areas, such the fascinating sculpted crags that often form bridges to make it feel like a full fantasy world, which again, feels like something they went for with FF XV.

Great watch as always 👊🏿, and yep been having fun with it. The combat is fun once you get the hang of it. I agree on some of the anger towards the cringey dialogue but I think that's something that's easy to skip by if you're enjoying the rest of the game. Kinda like with Hogwarts Legacy dialogue. I think my one gripe was the slight emptiness of the open world but it seems a lot of games have this obsession of having large maps that they then try to figure out how to populate afterwards (The Ubisoft curse).

I love final fantasy 15 it's what got me on final fantasy and I love forspoken they're both great it's good there people who don't listen to the hate when it's so fun not games need to be 10 out of 10

Hmm very nicely explained. So it seems I should be going into this game expecting a narrative impact on the scale of something like Dragon Age and the gameplay impact on a scale close to God of War. Sounds fair, I'll wait for a sale hopefully later this year. I'm really sad to see everyone's trampling over Luminous's efforts after FFXV, when they're just now getting their footing on the new consoles. But it's clear this game is not as bad as the media is portraying it to be. Been seeing a lot of people just outright letting it go because they can't get the hang of combat. I think it looks really impressive. Can't wait to see what they've come up with for its DLC, hopefully it changes some people's minds about the world of Athia. Not expecting a Cyberpunk Edgerunners type comeback especially since it's just a DLC, but having a grey and soulless open world with combat like this is just not a good combo. Hope they can change that up a bit or make it work better in the expansion (even if NPCs are still forced in one part of the map) I have faith.

I don't understand why people here shaming the otherside for disliking the game for having reasonable opinions. People have experiences which they will find this story to be cliché, Frey with no character development, environment feels vastly empty just to name a few. Of course people also have tastes in games so they will have a different opinion and/or likes/dislikes. Whatever people say shouldn't matter to you if you like this game or not. But for the game company, it does matter based on the majority likes/dislikes.

Beat the game, don’t even know how many hours spent in post game. I’m keep going back to just run around and blow stuff up. Tbh, I think the goal with he game was to make a hyper magic infused souls like. Its currently sale price is 60% off, that was finally enough for me. It’s a beautiful game with great combat but to me that character is AGONY. She has become somewhat less painful as the game has progressed and so far the world and the combat outweigh the stupendously unlikeable aspects. Aspect. Her. She is to me a different version of the trope of a young person designed and written by middle aged people. Only not in the usual tragic way, in a new and even more tiresome tragic way. A DLC that saw her “tap out” or even get defeated causing the powers that be to beam in a substitute to carry her torch would be an ideal way to substitute a less awful protagonist and costs could have been kept down by simply making them far less vocal. Almost silent. Because gameplay is great imo. I doubt I’ll finish and she’ll be the reason but I’ll enjoy the gameplay a while longer yet.

Totally agree! I LOVE Forspoken and it doesn't deserve all the hate online. We should be supporting new IPs and ideas, not cancelling them based on "cheesy" dialogue taken out of context. The magic and parkour is awesome with an incredible feeling of progression as you earn and upgrade your abilities.

Bro I just finished this game and I have no idea why people think Frey is a bad character. I’ve seen people say some downright disgusting things regarding her too. I have over 140 hours in this game and even reach max level, the combat was amazing and while yes the dialogue was cringy, it makes sense in context. A lot of people saying she’s an a**hole, while ignoring her care for people and how she grew up. Yes she was rude a ton in this game, but people immediately wanted to kill her when they met her. Not only that the dialogue she has with kids is really innocent and shows how good of a person she is. It seems like people went with the flow and hate instead of actually playing the game. It’s disappointing because I would’ve enjoyed a sequel so much. If you haven’t played this game I highly recommend it. Instead of directing hate to it, actually understand Frey’s point of view and the characters before actually giving an opinion. If you have the same opinion fine, but at least acknowledge why you think so instead of going with the hate.

I agree, if they had another town or cave town or something would have help a lot. The game is good, but needed more in it, and the MPC’s need a lot of work to.

Good video! Forspoken looks amazing. We're so critical on video games now adays. This game has looked great since the first trailer. I played the demo, loved it. Certain things were different than I thought and thats fine. I will definitely be purchasing this game. I think if more gamers can remember how we approached a new game when we were children, we would get more enjoyment out of games rather than over analyzing them. I try to go into new movies the same way, with child like excitement and not much expectation. It has allowed me to enjoy a lot of movies that ppl say they didnt like. ;)

You know, I'm not one of those sorts of people who constantly jumps to "you just don't like this because it's a woman (etc)", but with "combat quips" as you called it being a staple of gaming for several years now and only suddenly becoming a problem with this game, I seriously wonder if some people just can't handle the very basic idea of a woman occasionally talking like Spider-Man. Like, when Garland looks like Eminem and listens to butt rock on his iPod we all chuckle but universally love him for it. On the other hand, this girl says a three-word goofy sentence every now and then and all these people are like "UGH BE QUIET". Really makes them look exactly like what their detractors say they are.

Most unfairly treated game ever made.. it has great action.. gameplay.. combat.. effects.. traversal and parkour.. it's huge and open.. good music.. attractive wisecracking Street punk protagonist.. its so tragic they got closed down after this game came out.. people took a crap all over them and rejected what's actually a very original good looking well made super fun game.. I hope one day it defies expectations and gets a sequel
