Looks great! I like that its short, linear and doesnt involve shooty stabby murder or upgrade trees. Looks very polished too. Loved the footage of the guy on a treadmill when you talked about it being a walking sim haha

So I got to try a 1 hr demo (pretty much all of Ch 1) on PS5. It's a great game, but I agree with you on the need for the quicker movement option. Especially in some of the long hallways or even stairs you deal with.

I enjoyed watching a full gameplay video without commentary. It made for a great, looong movie. I don't need to buy/play it now.

I do not mind walking sims played a bunch of them some very good some not. My problem is that based on other reviews this one is not a even a good walking sim with design choices that make player scratch their heads. (By the way number of walking sims have walk faster/run button).

I have to ask what the point of a walking sim is? If all you have is a linear set of actions then it would be better suited as a film

I think if you are a story focused gamer - then you get that more immersive experience since you are actually interacting with the story/setting vs just viewing a movie or reading a book.

⁠@@LynnGryphonYou’re not really interacting with it though, as these walking sims don’t even have multiple endings to make your interactions/choices (if there are choices) have value. It’s akin to pausing a movie and noticing small details.

@@mrshmuga9 You have complete freedom (generally speaking) of movement/looking in walking sims. In comparison, a movie is a fixed view as described by the cameraman. They really are very different things..Did you play Dear Esther or Firewatch? Incredible narrative driven examples of the genre and something a movie could never compare with. Don't get me wrong - I love movies and I also love walking sims but they aren't comparable.

@@elone3997 Sure you can't walk around in a movie, but the point I'm making is (typically in walking sims) it doesn't make any difference to be able to walk around anyway. If you find hidden info that's not part of the main path and doesn't affect the ending... the movie counterpart would just be adding it to the movie if it's important enough or having deleted scenes. It's really nothing special that movies couldn't (or haven't) done. Even point-and-click adventure games from the 80's had more depth. They had puzzles and alternate endings. Walking sims don't really require anything more than hitting pressing a button to advance text. I haven't played those games but even if I grant you they're somehow different, they're not emblematic of the average walking sim. Even The Stanley Parable had alternate endings, and that was a free mod.

The first thing I noticed was the character holding a beer bottle. Somehow I just don't see space exploration going to the effort to send a carbonated bottle of beer to another planet. Like, maybe come up with some container that looks remotely plausible? That might seem like a minor detail, but if you're making a "working Joe" character and cannot think of anything outside of the cliché of drinking a beer, then the writing needs work.

Oh that's the least of the writing's sins.... watched a livestreamer play through this game then thanked him for saving me $30. The story starts off good but unfortunately never goes anywhere and the conclusion is unsatisfying.

I remember visiting NASA as a kid and getting some dehydrated space ice cream that the astronauts got to eat in space. Maybe they just made it up as a novelty to sell to tourists, but I guess astronauts can't have all work and no play.

I don't see a problem with them having beer bottles on Mars at all, they even got a nice base with a tree planted in an atrium, they obviously got more advanced means of space travel in this scenario and if a beer bottle is the thing that pulls you out of the story, then that might be a you problem to begin with.

You can't even compare the two . This is a walking simulator whereas Signalis is survival-horror .

This game was one of the worst experiences of the whole year. I’d rather stream Gollum for a week. That game is also bad, but you can find the fun in the same way you watch a train wreck. Fort Solis is pretentious, uninteresting and tremendously boring. The fact this review talks about graphics and atmosphere for 2/3rds of its runtime says a lot

Uh, Quicktime events. 20 years of game design and we still have to bother with that shit. Seriously - it is the white flag of every designer. The moment a quicktime event occurs, it is evidence for the designer realizing his game was simply not gamy enough to justify selling it between actual games, and therefore he went with the element which requires zero creativity, offers no immersion at all and is as much fun as the type writer courses in early educational games. If such designers would be kept away from budgets, the world would be a better place.
