TEACHERS STANDARDS EVIDENCE

So what exactly ARE the teacher standards? The information on the department for education website states: “They define the minimum level of practice for trainees and teachers to achieve qualified teacher status.” To summarise this, the standards are a set of requirements that all teachers must abide by in order to achieve their qualified teacher status. Think of it as a tick list that you need to achieve before you’re allowed to teach a class of your own. You need to provide several examples of evidence for each standard. Let’s say 2/3 examples as a guideline. This might look like a lot of information at first, but I promise it won’t take long to wrap your head around them. In this video, I provide examples of how to evidence the teacher standards, as well as explain what to expect when you meet with your mentor. I hope you find this information useful!

Hi there, thanks for uploading the video. I feel slightly reassured now! I have always been scared of failing the QTS part - if a lesson goes to pots, I thought that meant I would immediately fail the course. It just looks like the mentor wants to know how you're meeting the standards and how you're evidencing that you're meeting the required standards! I am starting the school embedded part this week, so I can gain an insight to how different teachers work!

Don’t worry about a bad observation. There’s really no such thing! If you have a ‘requires improvement’ moment, hopefully your class teacher will provide support to help you. It’s all part of the learning process ☺️ where are you taking your teacher training? And good luck!!

@@ForTeachersChannel Hi, thanks :) I am based at the University of Cumbria in London :) It's only for teacher training so you're getting the best support from experienced lecturers! My main concern is I am a dyslexic student teacher and although my spelling is OK, I may get that one thing wrong! It's almost like a reoccurring nightmare 🙈😂
@ForTeachersChannel
@ForTeachersChannel 5 жыл бұрын
Please try not to worry about it! I have so many friends with dyslexia who are truly wonderful teachers. I promise it might seem like a worry right now but it’ll be something you’ll learn to adapt your teaching to include soon. As long as you’re passionate about teaching it won’t matter long term. Good luck! And stay in touch!

Overwhelmed is a great way to describe teaching! I know you’ll start to figure it out soon. Gaining QTs is important but the most important part is discovering what kind of teacher you are etc. Have you done the tests yet or do you have them booked? Feel free to ask any questions down here!

@@ForTeachersChannel Hi I have done no tests as yet. The school has just given me the information i need to start. So we're doing observations to put together my evidence, then book the tests, etc.

This is a life saver! My uni wants me to organise based on chronological order which is bit annoying. Do you think I need to label everything with a standard explain why it reached those standards? Just got to Oct half term and have tons of paper and stuff but only done one proper lesson and just not really sure what to pick to go in the file, e.g material from lessons I've observed... also reflective writing should that go in? and how do you qts standard that type of work?! Sorry this is a bit muddled haha!
@ForTeachersChannel
@ForTeachersChannel 5 жыл бұрын
To be completely honest I’d just do what your uni have asked for, even if it seems a bit of an odd request. I’m sure they have a reason for asking for this and it’s better to jump through the hoop at this stage than to irritate mentors. You can take the lesson observation sheets (yours, or someone else’s) and highlight parts of the sheet where you have met the standards then add to your file. Eg. If it says ‘well differentiated tasks’ you can highlight this and add it under the appropriate standard. Don’t overthink it too much and if you’re muddled be sure to ask at uni rather than leave it really late! Is there anyone on placement with you that you can compare with? ☺️

Thank you!! Ive been putting as much as I can in and writing a couple standards it meets, they like the chronological way because it shows progress but it is a little tricky! Yeah good idea thank you! love your videos :)

Thanks so much for this. im gonna organise my file and seperate it into the different standards. btw how will the mentor know you actually did what you said you did? do I need the classroom teacher or whoever ive observerd to tick them off each time?
@ForTeachersChannel
@ForTeachersChannel 5 жыл бұрын
I guess there is an element of trust to it. The mentor will observe you teaching first before going over the file so you will have chance to show your teaching ability first before the file discussion. Your school mentor will have (hopefully) helped to check over your file during the process too, so everyone should be clued up by the end of the process. Do you have any other questions I can help with? ☺️

@@ForTeachersChannel Well, the reason I mentioned it was teachers in the United States, believe it or not, have to pass a competency literacy test. This has caused quite a controversy in the US, particularly, with our less endowed citizens.
@ForTeachersChannel
@ForTeachersChannel 4 жыл бұрын
@@edwardmartin6052 We too are expected to pass a similar test. We have an English test (grammar) as well as mathematics. It does cause some controversy in the UK too as the tests are really quite tricky to pass. I heard that they might be scrapped soon. Interesting to see the expectations of different countries. Are you a teacher too?

@@ForTeachersChannel No. I am concerned, however, about the social, economic, and political atrophied effects that are taking hold. It seems like it's caused on purpose.
