Nintendo wanted the skin to ONLY be viewable on Nintendo consoles. If you own any other console, you won't SEE the skin. When it comes to Xbox, PlayStation, Mobile, and PC, you can aquire an exclusive skin and use it across all other platforms. Nintendo didn't want that
