I just bought this compressor for running an airbrush. it is Much Louder than I expected. I have the one gallon Fotress which I am delighted with, and intend to keep. The one gallon will be handy for going outdoors on the back patio to paint models, with enamel paints, etc. I wanted the 2 gallon to stay in my art room. But it sure does shake the floor...I am sure that I am going to return it. I am glad you made this nice video, it taught me a lot, but I can't cope with the noise and rattling.

Michael, did you try putting it on a piece of carpet or a rubber Matt? This should make it quieter and stop the shaking. The one gallon is a great compressor I like it as well but I do like the longer run time of the two gallon. Thank you for the feedback and thanks for watching. Much appreciated.

@@TheAirbrushGarage Yes, I have a brand-new package of exercise mats four layers deep still in the wrapping, I put the compressor on it and ran it again. Still just crazy loud. Be-it-known I am sensitive to loud sounds, and I ran a cell-phone app to measure the sound level. It told me that it was operating at 70. I would have to put this tiny monster in a closet and run an extension hose to be able to put up with this noise.
@__WJK__
@__WJK__ 2 жыл бұрын
@@144928 - Thanks for sharing this information, a dB meter is the only way to truly compare and know the noise level between different air compressors, especially seeing how noise tolerance and expectations vary greatly between people's situations and surroundings. Testing noise levels without a dB meter is similar to trying to tune a musical instrument without using a tuning fork or an electronic tuner, point being, without some kind of standardized measurement, guesses, assumptions and biasses begin to creep in.
@hardtymz2517
@hardtymz2517 8 ай бұрын
@@__WJK__yea I agree. The video had no sound pressure measuring and that’s a no no for testing anything “ultra quiet”. It might be quiet to so many because old compressors obviously blew their ear drums out after using them for years. 70db is getting close to ridiculous loud. HF sells a tiny compressor just for airbrushes and it’s mad quiet! Also Db meters are dirt cheap. If it was 60db it would be closer to be acceptably worth the extra money it was charging for that feature. But 70 is almost a deal breaker.
@trevorwesterdahl6245
@trevorwesterdahl6245 2 жыл бұрын
I also bought this compressor and think its GREAT!. Its quiet, refills quickly, and offers many more uses than what it can do with an airbrush. I refill my car tires, bike tires, use an air attachment to blow-off/clean areas, and its good enough for low-volume tools like small nail guns or staplers. IMHO... don't get the 1 gallon version. I do suggest, like others have, to add a hose between compressor and water trap to allow air to cool and have water trap actually work. I use a 25ft coiled hose. If trap is attached directly to compressor its basically not doing anything. If I really didn't like noise, I could place outside and run hose to inside though a window or make a wall plate and run through wall, but its was much quieter than I expected and its noise is not a problem for me. If you want super silent or noiseless, they are available, but much more expensive. Most of the normal airbrush compressors are louder and not nearly as good. IMHO: never use any tankless compressor.

Add me to the list of people who are happy with there's. I bought the 2 gallon a few weeks ago because of all the good reviews including the one you did Dan on the 1 gallon back in April. This compressor is a really good fit for me and where I use it. Have a few hours on it now and it has given me zero issues. There is one part of the design that bugs me though. Not a deal killer by any means but I'm going to have to do something about it. Oddly enough it is one of the features you liked, the drain valve placement. Yes, it is out in front but it is not plumbed to the lowest point of the tank. If you drain with it sitting level there is still a lot of moisture left in the tank. To get all of the water out you can't just rotate the entire compressor the approximately 40 degrees needed because the valve will hit the floor. You have to lift the tank, put the back part of the compressor on the edge of a bench or table. This will let you rotate the tank enough to thoroughly evacuate the moisture without the drain valve hitting anything. You shouldn't have to go through this at the end of every session. I'm thinking about welding up a cradle that the compressor sits into. It will keep the tank rotated so the drain is at the lowest point and give easy access to turning the valve. Like I said I'm very pleased with this compressor it's just this one balancing act you have to go thru at the end of each painting session that needs fixing. Maybe I'm the only one that can't walk away knowing there is still water in the tank. I've been bitten by that with my shop compressors when doing full resprays on cars and RV's. If anyone else has a method or idea please let us know.

@t54760

@@davidknight133 It won't rust but Aluminum forms an oxide layer in the presence of oxygen. Ever seen bright shiny aluminum that has gotten dull and when you run your fingers across it you pickup a little powder? Besides this oxide it's just not a good idea to be spraying paint with pressurized air that has excessive moisture. Even with a water separator and filter located down stream of the tank it goes against the idea of clean / dry air.

At $130 that is a great price, though 60db is not something I would call ultra quiet. My Silentaire Super Silent 20-A runs at 30db. My studio is in my house so I need something a bit more quiet. Great review thank you for the content.

Jason, thank you for sharing. That will be very helpful to other viewer's. I have not had the opportunity to test or own a Silentaire but but my research says they are very good compressors and at 30db....Dam that's quiet. Thanks for the comment and watching.

But are you really comparing a $160 compressor to a $750 compressor??

I just purchased the Silentaire Super Silent 20A from a nearby thrift store for $60 and have been looking around on here and there to find out just what exactly it is that I have . . . and what all I might can be able to do with it. I need A LOT of info, accessories . . . not to mention operating & maintenance instructions since all I have at this time is a box with air coming out of a hose when I turn it on. HELP !

I cant see the dislikes, but I got a feeling they're very low.

colburn888, No dislikes, at least yet. This is the compressor I use and I love it.

is this piston or diaphragm

The oil-free designs do not allow oil in the compression chamber and use pistons of self-lubricating materials. I hope this helps, and thanks for watching.
