Bobby's tenor voice doing Unchained Melody was a perfect performance. HIS voice is from the heavens above. Now Bill Melody had the baritone voice they shouldn't have blended together but they did and it was pure magic. LISTEN to Bill doing BROWN EYED GIRL solo or Georgia. They both had unique voices but NO artist before him or after him will ever do Unchained Melody like he did.He owns that song always will.

Love Bobby freestyle vocals on this version of Summertime. Hatfield known vocal range was B2 to whistle register Eb6. The man had killer pipes! He was so versatile and vocally competent. I got his southern/blues rock inspired solo album from 1971.. He was a far superior vocalist. 👍👍👍

His B2 may not actually be his lowest. It just based off songs he has sang that we know of. I heard his lowest note and it is very comfortable for him so i assume he could have gone lower. 🤔

Well.. he knew how to sing jazz... that I will say. And his other genres too. That's a voice a gift from God. You know the strangest thing is, we expect certain 'voices' based on how someone looks. Then they open their mouths and out tumbles a voice that blows your preconceptions away... music, eh its like that, LOL

By 1965, James Brown was already a seasoned veteran in the music industry, as he made recordings and embarked on numerous tours for over a decade. "It's A Man's Man's World" was released as a single in 1966. To have a better idea of what his music catalog was like at this time, watch James Brown perform his set with The Famous Flames in the 1964 Rock concert film, "The T.A.M.I. Show". Brown stole the entire show at this two-night Rock music festival.

You got it - Before they became famous, Bobby and Bill were both big fans of James Brown. I watched a recent TV interview with Bill Medley (he's nearly 80 years old), and he talked about how when they were just starting out how he and Bobby would be on the phone while James Brown was playing on the radio in the background of both of them. They were big fans. Yes, James Brown was an influence on them.

James Brown hadn't really crossed over to mainstream yet in 1965, but Bobby (and Bill Medley) both listened to a Black radio station out of LA in the early late '50s/early '60s. So Bobby did know Brown's work, and, yeah, borrowed a few moves from him too.

No disrespect to James Brown he could not sing happy as well as Bobby Hatfield James Brown probably was the Best Entertainer of the time known for his dance moves the splits and all that but as far as singing absolutely no comparison some people try to compare him to Eddie Kendricks of The Temptations but I truly believe Bobby Hadfield has a better range than Eddie Kendricks and I grew up when they both were young and in their Prime singing voices era the man can sing he can sing not too many people can sing like that no matter what your ethnicity
