Children's Martial Arts Coach Paul Streiff demonstrating the forward roll and somersault. These are warm up techniques that we do on a daily basis and something that all children (and even you adults) should be able to perform.
- Hey guys, Paul Stripes here. I'm one of the kids' instructors at Neutral Ground. Very active here. I'll teach you a quick tutorial about some basic movement. Specifically some front rolls, two different types of variations of front rolls here this evening. Let's do the basic straight front roll and shoulder roll. So real quickly. When we're trying to get the little ones to start moving, it's very important that they're safe, right here. We like to start 'em down low, here. And so for our basic front roll, we're just gonna have them put their hands on the mat here, and tuck their chin. Now, the extension of the legs is gonna bring their bottom up over their head. They're gonna tuck their chin so that their head doesn't touch. Here, watch. Here. And you can see that they're ready to roll again, okay? Side view real quickly, same. Start off low, hands go down here, chin's tucked, extend the legs. Up, here. Ready to roll again. So very basic front roll. Second variation of a front roll is gonna be the shoulder roll. Shoulder roll is one of my favorites, can lead into some break falls and that sorta thing. The shoulder roll's a little bit different. I typically start off standing here, but as we step, you see my front hand's gonna follow, and I like to put contact with my whole arm as I step. Watch. As you notice, I'm ready to stand back up. Do it again, okay? A little bit of the side view here. Other side. I stand up. I'm ready to go. Alright? Thank you for watching. Enjoy your day.
