My partner and I just came back from a trip to Emerald and the gemfields of Sapphire and Rubyvale . We learned how to fossick for Sapphires at the 'Bobby Dazzler' Mine' where you buy a bucket of 'wash' for $20 and they teach you how to sift , wash and pick out the Sapphires . We are getting old but had a great time and brought home a handful of small sapphires . Also bought some bags of wash to sift through at home . Now ready to fossick on our own ! I have cut a number of Australian sapphires, both faceted and star sapphires. The small stones found on the smaller sieve would be too small to be cuttable, but ok for specimens. Also most star sapphires to be found in QLD are very dark and nearly opaque, so don't be too quick to toss 'em!.

Nice video. get one of those cheap diamond tester with led bars (diamond selector 2), so you can quickly test the stone in place and if its sapphire then the led lights up to orange and red bars. It works with ruby too.

very nice, my dad live at the Willows for 10 years, the sapphires he found was amazing, have you tried divining for sapphires?

@theyoungadventurer5145 it's just 2 piece's of either brazing wire or fencing wire with a 90 degree bend for your hands on one end. To start with you use a Sapphire in each hand where the wires touch it. Walk across the ground until the wires cross over each other. The Sapphire will be under the cross.

I've faceted several sapphires from Australia and they were saturated with color. The smaller stones should be stunning.

We recently went to the gem fest in sapphire and had a great time. Lots to see. What area did you search? We had a look at Glenalva but only found a few chips but had a good time doing it.

it is definitely a place you can spend weeks! I was in Tomahawk Creek fossicking area, quite remote and off-grid. Glad to hear you got some gems!

What would you do with found Sapphires? Does they have any value?

The vast majority of these ones I found in this video hold no commercial value, and they're not large enough to facet. They could be user as really cool aquarium gravel! Haha
