Foster parents experience unique circumstances that come with unique emotions, and sometimes it can feel as though no one can relate to their life. Strength and encouragement come from viewing foster care through the lens of the Gospel. This is the message that Jason Johnson, author of Reframing Foster Care, brings.
In this interview, he will share stories from his own foster parenting journey, such as the hard decisions and processes that he and his wife have had to go through, including the very real issues that come with relating to the birth parents of the children they are fostering. He will offer support to foster parents, as well as encouragement to those who are considering fostering. Also, he will give practical ways that we can all help, whether we feel called to be involved in foster care or not.

There are dedicated church sisters who have adopted and became foster parents. I have also seen foster parents who did it to get money, then send them to my office because they had enough of them; like they were throw away pets....

I hate the brothers weren’t adopted together. Way to go those who called in!

Oh! My! Land! Today is the 50th Anniversary of my mom and stepdad. Kid you not. May 10th. His first wife divorced him bc she wanted babies, he said College. He joined the Service, was stationed at a nearby Army base. In his off-time, he played at a local tavern, Country music. After 2 years of dating (with us other 4 step-kids), mom got pg. He stepped up to the plate, and married her. Circa mid 60s. Though he never legally adopted us, we other 4 kids were always wondering when the next hammer of life would strike. Their biological daughter is The Golden Child. Called mom to see what's up for Mother's Day on Saturday. She has 5 adult children, from almost 63-50. Yes, I know that there is a pandemic. What did they do for Mother's Day? Skipped out on all 5 of us to go camping on the other side of the State for an unknown destination or time period. We had all secretely planned for an outdoor, masks included, BBQ and surf and turf picnic for them put on their property, for Mother's Day and their 50th Anniversary Celebration. Where are they now when we wanted to richly celebrate with them in a big way??? In absentia. They're on a road trip, camping and fishing with their dog. How can a fully grown, well-educated person (me and my 4 other sibs), still feel so abandoned by our own "parents"? Step-dad? Taught us to fish, but never helped us with homework growing up. Ever... Food, clothing and shelter. That's all a person needs, right?

There are soooo many of us, loving Christian family home that would help (we are currently permanent guardians of a now 6 year old buy); however, the DHS system is soooooo broken and in our personal experience and many others that we personally know believe they do NOT but the child's wellbeing as a priority. We will never work with the DHS system again so sad! But true, again in our personal experience. Jo

More would help if they could afford it but I heard adoption Thru dfs is lower cost than private or international adoption.
