A Foucault pendulum is simply a pendulum which can oscillate freely in any plane so that even if we rotate the stand, the plane of the pendulum remains stationary.
Imagine a person rotating with the stand. With respect to us, the plane of the pendulum is stationary and it is the person who is rotating. But with respect to the person he himself and the stand is stationary.
So it must be the plane of the pendulum that is rotating.
This effect can be observed even if we don't rotate the pendulum. This is because the earth is rotating.
We can see that the earth and the person is rotating while the plane of the pendulum remains stationary.
But the person will see something different.
With respect to him it is the plane that is rotating.
This effect still occurs even if the pendulum is not directly at the poles. But the speed of rotation decreases as we move away from the poles. In fact we can find our latitude just by measuring the time period of a Foucault pendulum. Also Foucault pendulum is an excellent demonstration that shows that the earth rotates.

Anyone interested in the Foucault Pendulum and how it proves earth rotation should also reasearch the "hemi-spherical resonating gyros". They use a similar principle AND are sensitive enough to measure earth rotation and curvature. I have performed these measurements myself as part of my job as an Aerospace Engineer.

@@kryvi9415 I rely on my better judgement and that does not make sense to me. Question: If the Earth is rotating or spinning at a thousand miles per hour. How does a plane land when the ground below is moving? Also, supposed an airplane is flying in the direction of the Earth's rotation (1,000 mph). How does it reach it's destination if the plane is only going on avg. 547 mph? The airstrip would be constantly moving away from the plane. Also, if a helicopter is hovering above ground, why doesn't the Earth below move from it's landing location? I've tried the Coriolis effect it does not make sense. I've thought about this in many, many different ways and it does not make sense AT ALL! Only the Flat Earthers suggestion that the Earth is stable and not moving makes logical sense. I've even asked a pilot is the Earth flat, he quickly said yes, and moved away from me like he gave up a secret. Airplane; a vehicle that flies in the Air over a (flat) Plane. Hence.....airplane.

@@the_sophile Well, no it doesn't help because the atmospheric winds circulates, swirls and blows, north, south, east, west, southwest etc.. independent of the Earth's rotation. There's no roof containing all of this. Which means the actual ground is moving independently of the atmosphere. So, if I'm in an airplane flying in the atmosphere and I'm flying north to south and the Earth down below is spinning at a 1000 mph, east to west on an angle. How in the hell will that plane land safely landing north to south? Let's not get into the curvature of the Earth and a airplane flying would have to dip it's nose to keep from flying out into "space." Many flight manuals give flight instructions as if the Earth is flat. Never mentions or factors in navigation with the Earth's curvature. Commercial airline pilots have even admitted no matter how high in altitude, the horizon is always eye level, meaning no curvature. I'm still on the fence with this but it appears there's information about this that's not in your local library.

Good question. Imagine a toothpick held along the longitude of a globe. If we move toothpick by sliding it to another longitude, it will make an angle with the longitude due to the curvature. So in effect the toothpick seems to rotate.
@rodneybaker2629
@rodneybaker2629 3 ай бұрын
It doesn't. Remember when it was at the poles the frame rotated with earth because it was anchored to earth and the earth spun in circles causing the frame to spin in circles too? The pendulum could swing in a straight path because it was isolated from the frame because there is a swivel between the wire holding the pendulum and the frame it is attached to. When a pendulum is located on earth besides at the poles, the circular motion of the frame goes away because the earth it is attached to is not spinning at that location, it is simply moving laterally or sideways and the pendulum is going along with frame. This means there is no isolation between the frame and the pendulum and without isolation between the two no detection of earth spinning can possibly be detected.
@rodneybaker2629
@rodneybaker2629 3 ай бұрын
You are wrong with your toothpick explanation. The pendulum does not get moved from one longitude to another, the entire structure is bolted to the earth at the longitude it was built at. In order for the swinging pendulum to act as a reference it must be able to detect earths movement under it swinging which would be independent of earths movement. How can the pendulum be independent if it is attached to the entire structure which is bolted to the earth. It will be moving at the same speed as the earth rotates. In fact the swinging pendulum and the structure holding it will all be moving at the same rate as earth is spinning. So how can it detect rotation if there is no reference to go by?

Yes, the pendulum can move freely, but all it is doing is swinging back and forth along the longitude line at which it is fixed too. Don't you understand it would have to see different stuff on earth at different longitudes passing under the swinging pendulum before you can positively say earth is rotating. However that is not the case because it will only see the stuff on the longitude it is fixed to.

This is no rotation to be detected, just a straight path around earth.

How is it moving laterally when the earth is rotating? You know that the earth is a sphere right? So take a globe, place a coin on it with the head facing the North pole. Rotate the globe without moving the coin. Is the coin still facing the same direction? Think about it. The rotation comes from the curvature of earth. And I did not say pendulums are in a rotating house. @liftingtheveil8361 thought that the rotation was due to the atmosphere. But in fact, it is not. If you lock yourself in a rotating room with no relative motion of air, you can still see this effect. And since you didn't understand this example, I will provide another one: Imagine yourself in a lift accelerating upwards. You can feel it even though the air is still relative to you. The point to be taken is that acceleration have nothing to do with motion of air. The pendulum rotates due to acceleration, not from the motion of the air.

In order for the pendulum to actually see earth rotating it has to be at either of the poles. It is just like a record player with you standing over the center hub and you can see the record rotating. The pendulum over top of the poles is a reference because it swings back and forth in a straight plane and that is the reference you use to see the earth spinning. If the pendulum is swinging back from any location other than the poles it is not a reference because it is moving at the same lateral speed as the earth rotates so the pendulum is no longer a reference. Think about it, I'll draw you a picture if that will help.

It has an iron core tending towards the magnetic meridian, a small electromagnetic ferromagnet which occasionally gives a push to make the pendulum swing indefinitely, a so-called Charron ring to eliminate the non-uniform variances in the plane of oscillation and last but not least, no one has considered that in physics a ball tends most of all to produce a circular motion, the weight of the ball makes a difference too and now tell the fairy tale of gravity and no one thinks anymore about the strong electromagnetic field of the earth. Et voila, a pendulum seemingly swinging with the rotation of the earth, in a closed frame. And why do people think the earth rotates? cause the pendulum is seemingly swinging with the rotation of the earth! It is always said that the earth would rotate below the pendulum, but it could just as well be that it is the pendulum swinging above the earth. There is no point in preferring one conclusion to the other. PS: The Allais effect states that during solar eclipses, the sun's emitted electromagnetism creates noticeable disturbances in the vibrational plane. Without Charronring, you couldn't just use what's not permanent in favor of or against a given sentence, because then you put the cart before the horse and violate honest investigative laws. It will not start to swing on its own and will stop eventually, cause we stand still. Set up several pendulums without a Charron ring, with otherwise the same parameters, in the same place and you will get several different results, since the oscillation cannot be constant. By the way: The longer a pendulum is, the longer it can swing without an electromagnetic drive, but after that it's over! Thats why Leon Foucault chose the Pantheon with a 67 M long thread. He was a member of the Hermetic Secret Society of the Rosicrucians, and therefore a Liar and a Thief, cause Foucault was not the first discoverer of the fact that the plane of oscillation of the free pendulum is invariable; but the honour of the discovery is due to Poinsinet de Sivry, who, in 1782, stated, in a note to his translation of ‘Pliny,’ that a mariner’s compass might be constructed without a magnet, by making a pendulum and setting it in motion in a given direction; because, provided the motion were continually kept up, the pendulum would continue to oscillate in the same direction, no matter by how many points, or how often the ship might happen to change her course. Thats a hard fact!

@@the_sophile The earth doesn't rotate at all. Because there is no translational motion! Did you know that the Foucault pendulum actually proves that the celestial sphere rotates along with the sun and moon, but not the earth? Something is turning and it's not us. Foucault's pendulum is actually a gyroscope. It has a large mass and a large radius of rotation, so its angular momentum is by default L=I*w, where I~m*r^2>>1 compensates for the small angular velocity w, so although L is large enough, it is not fixed because it is a pendulum. This pendulum is subject to precession. Precession can be caused by any external force (torque), be it weight, acceleration or electromagnetic force. The rotation has an electromagnetic (magnetic mountain) influence on a solid metal pendulum. When they are aligned (eclipse), their forces superimpose, causing this pendulum to precess even more. This is called the Allais effect. Even wikipedia says that the Allais effect was repeated enough times and was consistent until NASA intervened and even stole the research papers from Allais! Therefore, an aircraft's heading indicator must be aligned with the compass every 15 minutes. On the other hand, the movement of the sun and moon has no influence on the attitude display because the rotating disk is arranged horizontally to the aircraft fuselage. This rotating disk rotates clockwise or counterclockwise (DM) at 15,000 rpm on a stationary flat earth, just like the sun and moon. The attitude indicator does not need to be adjusted. Once put into operation on the ground, it rotates non-stop for hours. It completely disproves the rotating globe. 15,000 rpm is enough to overcome the static friction of the ball bearings on the gimbals, as it gives a sufficient value of L=I*w(w=15,000*2PI/60=1,570rad/s). The rotation measured by science belongs to the electromagnetic hourglass of the aether, on a stationary Earth, because the Earth lies in the zero-point energy field, thats the event horizon which einstein mentioned. When you say, that its possible with a stone, then you simply lie, cause it has to be a magnetic ball, or you will not have the same result!

Don't be fooled. It's the energies being different at the A and B turning points in the swing plane. At the Equator the A and B energies are equal. The rotating at the Equator would bias to the side if the Foucault Pendulum is showing "the rotation of the Earth beneath it." The Coriolis effect is real but is not from rotation (of the Earth). It's more likely from radiation and gravity forces. It doesn't change that we can extrapolate the numbers and fit them to the rotation or the shape, though. It's just not fully correct to set rotation first and will make you think and that's the main purpose. So think. The roundabout is wrong to add in this as we then put centrifugal forces to the mix and it's not the same going on as the main effect of the pendulum. "The Equator" on the roundabout is full force and the Coriolis is 0 on the Equator of the Earth.

Ever wonder why flatters can't get the sun's location correct? You haven't noticed how they run away like children from any details about this most basic thing? And get this, bro - your magical flat world is basically only 2D! Christ - the math of a sun circling a flat earth is high school, or middle school. Why do you flatters make up excuses for why you're unable do to it. I mean, globe math gets the sun's location correct in the sky for every spot on the planet - 365 days a year. You would think flatters could be at least as smart. Sadly, that's why you are flatters - not mentally able to do the "hard" things in life.

Well, if you watched the video to end, you would have known that the effect is dependent upon the position of the pendulum on earth. But it is consistent with the law I provided and hence is verified. If you want videos of Foucault pendulum rotating, plenty of them are available online.
