One of the core factors of the Fouette in BFS is its pivot, without that you lose much of the kick. Since Savate doesn't really use pendulum steps or switches learning to generate power from just your pivot is a fundamental skill. Here's a good way to get started, beginning even before integrating Savates trademark footwork. Just breaking down the core kicking mechanics.

I'm a Karateka, and I'm big a fan of Boxe Française Savate and have books and videos (from the late Professeur Salem Assli and Professeur Nicolas Saignac) and they have influenced my kicks. Great video!

Oh man if you have Prof Salem's book on BFS that one is very rare. Excellent resources from both my Prof and Prof Saignac. Thanks so much!

@Dr-Grayson actually I got the Philip Reed and Richard Muggeridge book on Savate and that is rare and expensive! Also I have a Savate illustrated book by Bruce Tegner and reprints of old manuals on Boxe Française and La Canne D'Arme translated by Matthew Lynch. I got all of Salem Assli's Panther Production videos and I've yet to find his book. I have courses from Professeur Saignac's website Savate Teachable.

Understood, that's some really excellent material. I appreciate your passion for the art especially as someone approaching it from a different style. I'll let you know if I ever find a copy of that book as well, I don't have one either.

Another great video and technical break down. What are your goals with these? Are you going to have an on-line, in-depth program or are you opening a new school or building an organization?

Goals wise a little bit of everything when it comes to building a brand and putting yourself out there. I also simply enjoy sharing information and teaching. I'm also trying to spread awareness and understanding of the art. There just isn't a lot of information on the style in english. I train a wide variety of martial arts, Savate however has always been my speciality. That being said there will be more content on different styles and techniques in the future.

@@Dr-Grayson Thats cool, And I appreciate the content. I certainly agree with the lack of awareness of BFS in North America and think it has a lot of advantages and could appeal to a wider range of people- especially with its emphasis on control and finesses over brutality. The different kinds of competition formats/rules seem to have something for everyone's tastes and for older people it seems the most user friendly approach to kick-boxing...yet it seems pretty stalled in north america....any ideas to help raise awareness and popularity?

There are simply an extremely limited number of instructors available in the US. I think given time and effort from people like myself sharing the art and making information more available will help. I personally am going to make efforts to bridge the Savate/MMA gap since I personally believe it has a wide variety of skills that compliment MMA striking very well. My professor taught a very full contact approach, we didn't really go the Assaut route. So it's also making sure that the different versions of Savate that come from a variety of instructors are shared and shown to the world. In due time ideally I'll be traveling and teaching the art as much as I can.

Considering the use of mainly foot area In fouette, how do You keep yourself from kicking the knee, especially with the right leg. I know that knee blocks realy arent A thing In BF but accident must happend.

Accidents absolutely do happen, shin clashes are just the nature of things. Especially give the similarity between the Savate Chamber and a kick check. There are a few ways, the first is slow accuracy training. I was taught and generally teach people to kick with their "shoelaces" aka the instep. The toe isn't always used after all. Most Savate drills are done sparring style so thousands of rounds are spent directly kicking the leg (just above the knee) and with all those rounds you get very good at properly judging your distance this is probably the biggest factor in not clashing too much. Much leg kick in savate is also done at angles, so you're less likely to meet the knee. You're never going to be totally able to avoid it, so lots of people still wear a shinpad with their shoes. And a fun fact, under Savate Pro rules you are allowed to block and strike with the shin, so there IS a Savate ruleset where that is totally legal.
