My father was a dispatcher with the Alabama State Troopers in the 60's and 70's. He remembered a call they got one night of a trooper in pursuit of a car that was leaving the pursuing officer in the dust. Another voice came over the radio telling the pursuing officer to knock it off. The other voice was the Lt (who the other trooper was unknowingly chasing) who was in one of the new Javelins and he was just seeing what it could do.

Wow, My Dad was the chief of the ABI and was issued a undercover unmarked Javelin, dark green. He told the same story of him being pursued until the trooper got close enough to read his plate and said on the radio " Is that you Major?" I loved this episode!! It made me feel very nostalgic. In '83 I bought a 1969 AMX, 390, 4-speed, highly optioned car, with factory leather interior, and factory installed A.C.!! When I bought the car in '83, N.O.S. parts were still available. Several AMC dealerships had held on to their parts, plus reproduction parts were being made. After a rebuild on the engine, including the better breathing 401 heads, plus the typical H.P. additions, it was a truly screaming beast! Man, I had a blast with that car!! Living in a small town just west of Knoxville TN, street racing out in the boonies at 2 am, was a weekly occurrence. Being an attractive 24 yr old woman, wearing high heel shoes, w/big 80's hair, while driving this rumbling AMX, that none of the local Chevy/Ford/Mopar boys had ever seen, made for an exceptionally surprising experience for them!! Especially when a woman smoked their doors, in high heel shoes, in that screamingly fast AMX!! Those were the days!! 💕💓

Way back when I was an 18-year-old, I was driving late at night heading to my girlfriend's house in my 1968 290CID Javelin. When this car pulled up beside me. I looked over and it was an Alabama State Trooper in a Javelin 401. He gave me a little nod, then floored it and left me in the dust. That was the one and only time I ever saw a Javelin 401 before this video. Thanks for the good memory from long ago!

When I was a kid I worked at a Chevron station here in north Alabama. One of the Javelins was assigned to a State Trooper in my area. Often the trooper would bring the car by and run it through the car wash. I asked him how fast it was, he said he only got outrun once by a GTX, then I asked him how he liked to drive it, "I hate the he## out of this car, you would too if you had to spend eight hours a day in this thing".

Saw this and had to comment. It was a Saturday night in the spring of 1973. I was working in the pits at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. After the races were over, my girlfriend and I headed to Talladega going to the race on I65 South. It was probably around 2:00 early Sunday morning, somewhere in Alabama, and this was when the speed limit was 75 mph. I had a 1972 Road Runner, and I was running around 85 or so when a late 60s model Mustang came upon us, and past us like we were standing still. He had to be doing 130 or so. After his tail lights vanished in the night, I noticed blue lights coming up behind us FAST. I figured it was the police, so I checked up a bit. When the car caught and past us (again, like we standing still) I caught a glimpse of it, and it was an Alabama State Trooper in a Javelin! This one was brown though, not blue. I had never seen a Javelin State Trooper car before, but he was hauling! After he disappeared into the darkness, lo and behold, we drove about 10 miles down the interstate, and there was the Mustang on the side of the interstate with the State Trooper behind him, lights flashing. The Trooper had run the Mustang down. Seeing this video bought back the memory of that morning many years ago.

Went to Talladega for the motorcycle races in 1972 - me in my brand new Dodge Colt, my dad and his friend on 1966 BMW R60's, another older gent on a Harley, and one on a Vincent Black Shadow. We got stopped by the State Patrol on our way into Alabama - they were in one of the Javelins. One officer came and spoke to us, and the other stood by the car with his sawed-off shotgun. I was 18, my dad was the youngest of the others at 38. The message, as well as I remember it, was that we should have a good time but not cause any trouble. Still one of my favorite trips, and I remember that car vividly - we had a 1968 Javelin with the 232 cu. in. six and an automatic, so that Javelin was the stuff of dreams.

I was friends with a kid thirty years ago. I heard about this car his dad had and when I asked what it was he said a javelin. I had never heard of them. And after doing some research learned alll about the sometimes cool and all the time weird vehicles that were amc’s.

I grew up in North Alabama and my family was lucky enough to be friends with two Alabama State Troopers. I can remember them talking about these cars (and them being ribbed about them). By the time I was old enough to know anything, these had already been retired for a few years. RIP Paul Bush and Willie Lackes.

Saw many of these when I was out and about. They could catch you on paved roads, but you could lose them on dirt. That is where many were crashed. The sound of one coming up behind you was crazy. The light on the roof made a whistling sound. Too cool, love the memories. Thanks Dennis. I think you approaching being the Godfather of cars.

So glad I watched this to learn of the "Police" Jav's that I never knew existed. The AMX has always been the only AMC car I really liked, but being I was young back when, I enjoyed any Javelin I could get my hands on (worked at two car dealerships when they were traded in used) and drive (since I was the detail guy and lot/showroom guy/parts runner) for the weekend. Never owned one, nor had my Dad. We've had a lot of cars, him mostly. Thanks for expanding my knowledge and looking forward to seeing it DONE and on the road once again. You know someone's going to call this the "Bue Light Special" lol.

When I was little boy in the early 70's I was standing in the front seat of my mom and dads LTD when a gold GTO passed us on US 280 northbound at a high rate of speed. A few minutes later, an AST Javelin passed us as well. About 10 miles up the road, closer to Bham, the Trooper had the GTO driver on the shoulder of the highway. It made an impression on me.

I'm drooling. I had a '71 SST 304 2bbl which was bright red and white faux T-Tops (vinyl). Sure wish I still had that car. It was loads of fun, even as a 304. I loved tuning that puppy by ear and kept it in such condition that you just bumped the key and it barked to life. What a jewel of a car that one is. Congrats on that acquisition.

At 70 years old, this brought tears to my eyes. I bought an AMC Javelin in the early 1970's before I was deployed for the second time. It was white with a deep red burgundy leather interior. It had the 304. I'm not sure what year it was. It did have the raised front fender wells. The front grill was different on mine and the tail lights were just red all the way across without the chrome cross frame across it. I was in country for about 6 months and I got a letter from my wife telling me that it had been stolen and totaled. I drove twice before I was deployed. I would love to take a ride in one, one more time.

I was 10 when those came out - what an amazing vehicle and it is a testament to AMC how they could do so much with so little resources. While I used to think those front fender bulges were weird, now they are refreshing in their execution. This is one nice car (Javelin) and this is automotive history. What a blessing this car is going to Dennis and company!

Very cool Dennis!! I am a retired Alabama State Trooper and I have heard all the "War Stories" from the Old Timers that drove those cars back in the day. Good Find, there are only a handful of those Javelins left! I was issued one of the 32 Mustang SSP Interceptors that the DPS bought in 1988 ....I have a few "War Stories" myself!! The 35 number was done by the DPS shop all DPS equipment had 35 Numbers.

Back in 1976 I owned a 1970 Cougar Eliminator with a SCJ 428 & locker reared with 273 gears, and I can attest to the fact that nothing could pass it or runaway from it on the highway. The 273 was such a tall highway gear I could pass most other cars while pulling a boat. That’s right, it had a trailer hitch. I’m sure this Javelin would do the highway speeds Dennis says it will.

I remember when Alabama State Troopers had them. It was a few years before I got my license. They needed something to try and keep up with the muscle cars running the road. From what I've heard they were bad about over heating. There used to be one on display in the department of public safety building Montgomery. Saw it when i was paying a reinstatement fee to get my license back lol.
