I have a problem with acquiring marketplace disasters... lol but lets take a dive into one of my favorite vehicles from my childhood, the Volkswagen sand rail dune buggy thing! Volkswagens are cool but this thing is way cooler!

If you build it they will come! Build it. These imo were the 1st gen side by sides. They were big in 80s and early 90s up here by pa/ny border when trails were mostly oil lease roads and posted signs were few and far between

They still make these in Mexico lol actually the original beetle was made in Puebla Puebla Mexico. From the start all the way til 2004 when they stopped making that original body style.

Seriously John, don't waste your time or money on that buggy. There are several that are in much better shape and configuration on the cheap in Marketplace or CL. And #2. That frame is not crash, or rollover worthy. Square tubing will buckle on impact. That's why serious roll cages are never made of the stuff.

It's also very important I haven't watched the entire video yet but when trying to put big Power into these types of machines you need to know what kind of transmission you are running if it is a 3 or a 6 rib a three ribs wagon Beatles a 6 rib transmission came out of the newer style buses and it will handle more power however not a 350 also John be careful when using the reverse there's a small brass gear in there that has a thresh washer and over time from using it with bigger tires than what it was designed for and using the reverse especially don't do any hard clutch dumps in reverse your transmission is going to be the biggest thing when trying to make any kind of power so definitely do your research there

You want to have something fun and do a build with it most everybody uses the tutu Ecotec there's loads of aftermarket support for this build however one guy in our local area runs a newer Honda 6 cylinder from a minivan

If you see this, you answer it that would be awesome but I am trying to learn how to weld because I want to make projects like these, but I’m also in a depressive rut project something that runs good start driving it and then just improve it from there

Your rear suspension was up to 1967 by 1969 it was the new version. Round tubing was the norm for the first buggies up to current. Subaru will fit right in there with an adapter plate to transmission, still a nice buggy enjoy.

The rear hub assemblies need to be changed over from like the 90s Cavaliers those are the best ones to run you need the ones with rear disc brakes that way you can put cutter brakes on it and you need a cutter brake master cylinder assembly

The swing axle was 1967 and earlier. IRS started in 1968 so it's prior to that. If the intake manifold is straight up and down to the head it's a 1200 or 40 horse (prior to 1966). In 1966 they had a 1300 for one year only. Starting in 1967 they went to a 1500 which is the same as a 1600 except for bore. If the intake is round and enters the head at an angle or has wide aluminium ends then it's after 1966.

I dont remember the website but they make an adapter kit to swap a 2.2 out of a Chevy Cobalt. But id do the bike motor swap. You already have it and will get triple the HP.

Build it brother. Not crazy but make it usable keep it on a budget bit make it better than it is. Quick question for you dude. I'm getting my quads ready for riding season. They both need batteries. Yamaha warrior and a Yamaha raptor 660r. What batteries do you run or recommend. I usually go yuasa but I'm trying to keep it on the cheap. What brand and what kind of luck have you had with the Amazon batteries. Thanks bro
