Found a small postwar Lionel collection near me and jumped on it. What did I end up with??

They all look in really good shape with boxes; excellent to like new ++! Jewels are easily replaced. Orange generators are the most common, tan the most rare. Sparingly lube the engines before running them too much! Great find!!!!

Nice collection... I have not seen much of your stuff here on KZfaq so if this is redundant, sorry. The 2333 series horizontal motors are grand pullers. Mine has mag na traction, however, part of their gearing is not easy to get to unless you remove the 2 screws inside holding the motor to the truck. There is a double worm gear in there and more places to grease and oil. Your Virginian FM might need a armature bearing problem fixed, or just grease or oil on both ends. The 2056 will need it all oiled and greased well, often the squeal comes from the armature, needing both ends oiled. E units often if the former user only ran in one direction will have burnt or indentations, especially if it was running two motors. I had a recent FM given to me and it had the one finger burn off making it now only run in one direction.

You did real well with that train find. Back in the late 1980’s I was on my way to work at 6:30 AM. Passed a house with black trash bags out front on trash day. One bag had Lionel track stocking through. I stopped, backed up. Looked in the bag and it was full of Lionel stuff. I went to the door and knocked. A Lady opened the door. I asked if I could have the trains. In Louisiana you can’t tack someone trash. She said all three bags where full of her X-husbands trains. I took all three bags home. Then went to work. The trains I got where real nice. Kw’s, 726, F3’s, etc. Thanks for sharing your haul. I enjoyed and it reminded me of my luck.

Thank you, yes you are definitely correct, 2056 does not have magnetraction... Not sure why I said that it did as I was thinking about it not having it before the video, must have just been brain fade lol

That is an awesome find. Thank you for sharing. The 2056 shouldn’t have magna- traction as it was made in 1952 during the Korean War. I have that same locomotive but a repair shop where my parents got it installed Magna-traction. It was a used engine I got for Christmas in 1972. It still runs great. Postwar Lionel and American Flyer where made to last a lifetime.

Kudos on the purchase. I have that Colber bubble water tower and it's one of my favorite accessories. The were more known for cheaper stuff, but they nailed that water tower.

I've been wanting one of those 2331s for years... lovely stuff you got yourself! I have a 2056 with her original box and inserts... the bearings on all the drive axles are pretty seriously worn, but somehow she still runs good as new! I have a 6520 I need a new searchlight housing for. Got it pretty dirt cheap somewhere, otherwise in good condition. I was pretty fascinated with how the 'remote control' switch for the light works- the "shoe" underneath the car gets pulled down by your typical 6019/UCS, which moves a pawl that indexes a contact drum. Some neat trivia on that- this contact drum is Lionel part # 1001M-42, and is a component of the bizarre plastic 'scout' motor. Instead of being used in tandem with the 1001M-43 to reverse polarity of a scout motor's brushes, it's used to make and break the circuit to the searchlight bulb. Pretty clever of Lionel to use such a niche part for an entirely different purpose.
