⛽Awesome Video Rob, they did a great job restoring that Bel Air!!! I don't get to see a lot of different old gas stations very often. thank you for taking the time to sharing this history with us and creating this awesome content. Every piece of gas station Memorabilia and car has a story to tell, and it's up to us to preserve their stories and share the history. 🚂

Yes you are right!! All of this is history that only remains because we do our best to preserve it in our minds and physically in person hopefully!!! I pined your comment. Wish I could pin all of the comments coming in but with the KZfaq platform that is not possible. Rob

I was born and raised in Southern California, Riverside. Every summer when my Dad had vacation time, we would drive back to Kansas to visit family. We took 66 into Oklahoma then turned north. At the time my folks owned a’56 Ford Fairlane two door hardtop and a ‘53 Chevrolet pickup. For vacations we put a camper on the truck, loaded up and off we went. My brother and I rode in the camper, my folks were up front. No air conditioning, no fast food, not too many big cities either (except for Albuquerque and a few others). It wasn’t glamorous, it wasn’t time filled with cell phones, touch screens, laptops or other gadgets - none of those had been invented yet- and I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat. I’m the only one left in my family so these memories are worth it. Thank you for posting this!

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you sharing these family memories. Yes things were much simpler then without all the gadgets robbing our daily life and time these days. I remember sitting with my brother in the back of my parents Chrysler station wagon traveling from NJ to CA back in the sixties. We also experienced Route 66 in a special way. Rob

I've met the man who owns the 1939 Graham. He is a Route 66 treasure. I wish I had gone down Route 66 years ago when the mother road was full of people like him. These old guys are dying off which is sad to see. People like him make Route 66 an immersive experience. I took my son out to meet him last year and he wants to go again and take his twin brother so he can experience Route 66 and everything it has to offer.

Thank you for sharing this. Yes that man is definitely a Route 66 treasure . He was telling me that he owned a Whiting Bros service station near by at one time. He was fun to hang out with and chat about 66 and the past. I hope you’re son’s twin brother does have an opportunity to visit this place and other things along the old road. A lot of history still remains. Thanks for watching my video. Rob

I visited the Bent Door station and was able to talk with the current owner about its history a few months ago on my trip. The left side of the station with the bent door was salvaged off of an old military boat and the station was built around that piece back in the day. The pumps that are out front are original to the station but they were gone when the current owner bought the station, he found who had the pumps on the other side of town and was able to buy them back and put them back in place as well as the pole sign. Inside he has old original pictures of the station which used to have 36B pumps in its earlier days. He is an over the road trucker and is trying to restore the station in his spare time. His hope is to make it an ice cream/burger shop and Museum in the future.

Thank you for mentioning this. It answered a few questions I had when I was there. Interesting story about the bent door and the fact that he was able to get the pumps and sign back! Appreciate you sharing what you found out about this station!

Cool places, consider yourself lucky, being able to travel around and see so many neat places from way back when. I'm happy that you are able to do what you do. I think it's cool that people like you, can drive around the country and find these places, to show them to others that are interested in the different eras of America, plus y'all are able to find and buy antiques, to keep old time America alive. It sure is good that people are able to come to you and the others, to buy and preserve the history of this country, either keeping it rusty or doing restoration to the items of the old highways and byways. The multitude of products that were made from when automobiles were first produced, all they way, up to the 1960's and 70's, it's unfathomable to even think of how many. But, from big to tiny, there's always something out there, that will touch someone's heart felt passion for collecting a part of the American automobiles and what lined the American roads, as Americans ventured out, exploring the country, from sea to shining sea. Thank you for what you do. Keeping the young, to the old, the American Automotive Soul Alive!

I'm going to go out in a lark here. As my grandmother used to say. But I guess you don't see that many studebakers in your home state? They seem to be sprinkled around the west and somewhere in the Midwest. But that Graham car how much did he want for it? Now it's been a while I've only seen one or two others in person and that one I sold its twin for a good chunk of money. I never owned it I just got the buyer and sell it together. Not only until it's not busted the color is good on the lens. The 50 give or take a year Chrysler Plymouth black one, it's amazing the paint always holds up well on those cars. I'd still like to get one I'm not going to break my neck to go after it because they're not that valuable actually. Well in any case good to see your video content from your trip. I like the Studebaker pickups just because they're different. There's one in particular that is rare and I know where it's one setting at and if the family ever stops crawling over the man's estate, I'm sure I can buy it for three times what he offered it to me for. In any case go back about 5 or 6 years with Barrett-Jackson on the Studebaker pickup sales. If they're old auctions are still available. They sold it for an insane amount. Get yourself a list together and put this one on it. That list should be if I ever see one of these I need to let somebody know! Or by myself. Anyway I'll leave it all at that point. It's been a long old day and I sold a couple more today.

Hello my Old Car Legend friend!!! I love your comments!!! In complete respect I never asked the gentleman how much he was asking for the Graham super charged Low output flathead six four door! I liked it because it was something😢 I was not familiar with but honestly would not want to own it. He was very nice. He has visitors from all over the world stopping by trying to buy small souvenirs from the old road. Yes those 50s Plymouth cars hold the original paint very well. I learned this on this road trip. Yes not worth very much but the front ends look cool for sure. Thanks again for leaving an incredible comment!! Your friend Rob in California

Very cool video man I lived out there back in the 90s just north of Amarillo I work for Phillips petroleum in the refinery but when I had time off I went straight to Route 66 and traveled both directions on it back then it was really cool you can stop at a roadside burger store and you would think you were right back in the fifties drive a little ways down the road and there were cars and Salvage Yards everywhere I didn't make a lot of money and of course I had a family to feed and take care of so I wasn't able to buy any of those cars but I definitely wanted to they were everywhere and fairly cheap too but it just wasn't to be anyhow I love those days and thinking back on it I wish I could drive that road again just for the fun of it

I ALWAYS received a Texaco truck on my birthday( still have one: Light gauge steel friction tanker truck) To this day, have many service station road maps, over 1500 motor oil cans & bottles ( many are service station), a old & newer Sinclair memorabilia collection and a modern service station tanker truck collection... guess you can say I’ve got motor oil & gasoline, instead of blood pumping thru these veins...LOL
