I love this project. So cool to find these on your own land. So much history. The little divit on the jar lids is where the wire clamp like thing locks on. Some of older glass will turn purple in the sun depending on where the jar/bottle was made. So cool you guys!

You can place the wide mouth bottles on your front porch with tea lights or battery operated LED lights. You can also hang them up with wire around the mouth of the bottle with an Ivy plant or colored water for decor with a floating tea light.

The 1932 bottle was really cool. My dad was born in 1932, he would have been 89 the beginning of May. Sadly we lost him to cancer in 2016. Love watching you mudlark in your back yard. So cool. Love watching you fix up your new home also.

I remember the canning jars with the ridge on the top. My grandmother used them. The ridge was for a metal piece that "locked" the jars down, there was a rubber ring that also went with them. Good finds!!
@candacelinville57493 жыл бұрын
I was coming here to say the exact same thing. I have several of them that I rescued. If you look on the jars themselves, you should be able to see where the metal arms would have went in to the top, they flipped up and locked onto the top. You can buy replacement rubber gasket seals for them. Mine say “Ball Ideal” on them. What amazing finds!!

DIY IDEA: You can take the broken bottles that have color and break them down with a hammer... then use them in a stain glass project. It's SIMPLE. Get a large old frame that has a glass panel (thrift store) and then web search for stain glass templates. Print your template to the size of your frame. Next, use liquid lead (easy to make yourself OR purchase) to outline the design you chose. Next, using the crushed colored glass... sprinkle it into the sections to color your project. Last, fill each section of the template and crushed glass with liquid epoxy. SUPER simple project that will give you last memories of your new home. I recently made one (with a frame I found at Goodwill) of a peacock. It is 3 feet by 5 feet and now hangs in the picture window of my living room. People stop and ring my doorbell to ask where I got it and are amazed when I tell them I made it myself. hehehe. You can do them much smaller at first until you get the hang of how to make them. CONGRATS on the new home and I look forward to seeing more of the adventure.

5 years ago we moved from Alaska to Kentucky where we bought a 1950's Farmhouse and 42 acres of land. The house was in ok shape and we have been working on it in the winter months, but the property hadn't really been taken care of. We too have discovered so many bottles and jars in the woods when cleaning up dead trees. I love finding hidden treasures on our land. Enjoy all the new adventures ahead of you.

I am so enjoying watching your excitement as you seek out all the wonderful things this home is giving you, just imagine all those jars and bottles may well have come from this house and now finding there way back inside. Love it and cant wait to see what you make with them, also that one that you liked but is broken, remember you can use femo clay or its like to make into a flower or even a stamp with your name on it, I done this with an old bottle years ago, as i put the clay inside and pushed from the front into it a load of little flowers, so unusual too. Remember most of all to cover up the glass as you dont want a fire to catch when the sun comes out in summer, xxxx Happy mud larking xxxx Dede xxx

Hi guys from Los Angeles. I was reading some of the comments from people saying they wished they were there with you. I was thinking I was kinda creepy for thinking that, but I see Im not alone! Your property is like a dream. I swear, I can see a change in your faces. The serenity and peace in your eyes says it all. The joy and slight disbelief is also very clear. I know its going to be a lot of work, but thats what you are all about. THAT in itself is who you are. There is no greater feeling of accomplishment than working your butt off and having such an extraordinary payoff in the end. That is why your videos are so engrossing.
