My buddy Tylar had a 1982 Trans Am as his first car, bought it at 15, souped it up, and it sparked a life long obsession with muscle cars, horsepower, and going fast. Like so many people, he sold it to buy his next project and spent years and years regretting it. He was looking online for another one and somehow managed to find his exact car sitting in a yard not too far away! Watch Tony Angelo and the Stay Tuned crew work their grimy magic on the old 'Bird and get it back up and running in no time!

Word of caution Tyler. The hood scoop is directly over the carburetor. If you run a stock air cleaner housing and the vacuum actuated door of the hood scoop fails, rainwater fills a cylinder. My first car was an 82 Trans Am with a 305. I replaced a "siezed" motor only to have it happen again. The starter bends your connecting rods due to the water. The car was sold and shortly thereafter burned to the ground. This episode brought back so many memories. My car always needed a 350. Cheers. Ryan

This is great stuff. Makes me feel old though, the only vehicle I've purchased new was a couple of years old back then. This also hits hard as my first "hot rod" has been sitting in the same spot in a barn since 2002 when I parked it. I grew up with those "wish I still had it" stories too, so I never sold it.

It is really awesome to find your first car. Especially if it’s a hot rod, muscle car, or just a popular car. I know what happened to my first car. I’ll never see the specific car again. So it’s really great to see someone else finding their first hotrod/car. Don’t ever get rid of it. Now you have a second chance to enjoy the car for as long as you keep it. The most fun part is you can do whatever you dreamed to do to it now and enjoy it so much more. Be safe gentlemen and congratulations for finding a nice piece of the past.

I only sold it because I was rear ended and I needed transportation. I did locate it 15 years later when it popped up on ebay but it was even worse than when I had it. Congrats on getting Tyler’s TA back in action! Always great content with real-life challenges and significant help to the friends instead of just uploading drama like so many others. Don’t trash that 200c trans yet, as a lot of class racers are looking for good cores to build into race units of those. They are junk as stock, but are super light rotationally and light overall and if built correctly, they can shave some E.T. Vs a th350 trans for a very well set up super stock car. Keep it up guys!

Helpful tips. Weld to a washer before the nut to maximize effective penetration, heat and hold. Hammering/vibration before and after welding also helps and (depending on the fastener stuck) work the welded nut back and forth to clean threads as you go, especially starting the turn. From a rust belt tech.

I love me some third gen. An 84 TA was the first car I ever rebuilt from the ground up. The paint is\was completely awful, but it's still my baby. I have to say though, that exhaust is awful. There's no room for anything. I have a pair of Doug's longtubes I put on mine, and built a 3" to 4" Y merge and then 4" all the way back with a Dynomax Ultra Flow or a Hooker Max flow, I can't remember which. Sounds good and has good enough clearance. It's loud enough that it's enjoyable without drawing in too much unwanted attention. I'd love to see more third gen content. Thanks!
