I have been going down the Aliexpress pilot watch rabbit hole and bought 4 amazing watches.

Personally, The Hruodland is the most impressive. A fraction over the normal dimensions which wear comfortably on my wrist, still it's too good to pass. I've started a new Job and want to treat myself to another watch to mark the occasion of new employment and this watch has made the list of what I'll consider buying when my wages comes end of the Month. The turbine pilot is incredible. It remains one of my favourite watches in my collection and still my favourite from AliExpress.

Nice video as usual James. I like fliegers but don't like sterile dials so, for me, the most perfect Type B flieger is the original Seiko 5 SNK809. The colour matched day/date wheel blends perfectly into the black dial and the applied Seiko logo looks good. The dimensions of the various elements of the dial are perfect too. Even the 37mm case size is now back in fashion again. It still puts a smile on my face every time I wear it.

Excellent review James! The Eccapement looks to be the clear winner out of these 4 pilot watches. I also think the Chinese movement is worth the risk given the price point.

Like you used to be, I'm not big on Pilot Watches or Fliegers. However, a new San Martin has caught my eye. SN0033-G2 Retro Pilot (also a strong Explorer watch flavour here). Back, Green or Wine Red on a Bracelet or Strap with a YN55 inside. I'll be keeping an eye on this one in the next sale. Been looking for a Red / Maroon dial watch. I've also been wanting to add a San Martin to my collection - so this could be the one.

The Tandorio is offered in both 36 and 39mm with steel or titanium case with a number of different faces. I’ve purchased a 39mm Ti case to build a custom one with a NH38 (NH35 without the date wheel and indent on stem).

A nice collection one flieger a, two flieger b and one older style military watch. I must say i like flieger a like the Hruodland best, but that Tandorio was outstanding, it looks like a watch a pilot at the End of ww1 could have been wearing when he was piloting his Sopwith Camel against Fokkers and Albatrosses on The Western front 1917 to 18. I checked your link, it is very affordable too, so affordable that even with taxes, VAT and customs it would be cheap to buy into an EU country. Thank for an intresting video and a good explanation.

Good one James! I have just a Flieger A style pilot watch but I do have a plan to get a B style at some point in the future. From a size point of view the one I have is 39mm. Normally I would prefer a bit bigger for my 8.1" wrist but as the dials of pilots are big due to no wide bezels, this is a good size. The Escapement Time is high on the list!

I have the Escapement Time (PT5000), absolutely love it. Bought the SanMartin but sold it because it looked way too small for me due to the case/dial relationship. Bought a Tandorio Type B on a bracelet to replace it. Gave my father a Steeldive type B and it wears better than the SM and is a no-worries daily beater with the same NH35.

The ET is the best of the affordable pilots I’ve experienced. And I’ve owned lots now. I was also disappointed in the SM. Normally they are great. But not that one.

Four nice watches, I chose the Tandorio because they do their case in bronze. I had an nh35, so the bronze case, hands and blue sunburst type B flieger dial was only £52 and it has made a great watch 👍

@@WATCHingJames I am impressed with their quality, but Gary from I like watches has just had two Tandorios fail 60m pressure testing, so beware! I tested my empty case to 50m and it was fine fortunately.

My Citizen Avion AO9030-21E is based off the 1941 Flieger Type a is a pilot watch smaller than the original 55 mm. Its a more wearable 43 mm. Shrinking it made the pilot watch truly serviceable.

I have a Tandorio with 5000 movement. An Addies Dive type b face with amazing multiple hr lume, A long Island pilot watch a cheapo MDC. Except for MDC I liked them all.

I too thought about slowing down on the dive watches. When I saw the SanMartin SN0010 I thought, it’s still a dive watch but it’s so funky, I got to have it. So now I am waiting for it to arrive. Let’s see if it has the attraction of difference or it’s just too funky. I haven’t got the pilot watch bug yet, the main reason is sans branding.

I know what you mean about the lack of branding, but to my eyes, I think the Type B flieger dial looks fine without branding as there is no blank space left on the dial.

I could be happy with one watch only. Now I want an Escapement Time dial and lume with a spinning turbine with Tandorio 40mm case size on a 20mm lug width bracelet! All covered with a solid caseback engraved with a plane. And a quartz inside, because I would like to have this watch as a grab'n'wear one.

I agree about the Escapement - I've got a Laco type b with a Miyota 8 movement, and it is horribly loud.

James, have you had the opportunity to try out the 42mm Escapement Time quartz Type-B Flieger ? If so, how did it fit on your 6.75" wrist ? You see, I, too, have that size wrist and, as their 40mm automatic is sold out, was considering that purchase instead. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. With thanks, DonO. P.S. The quartz model has a lug-to-lug of 50mm.

my collection journey started with quartz watches that were tough like g shocks, then solar/atomic time quartz watches, then simply autos like seiko 5s , then divers like orient and citizen eco drive diver/feild watches and finally with dress watches and feel the divers and feild watches dont fit me while dress watches fit me more as they are simple and beautiful, dont need lume on the watches as I dont dont need them and felt divers are too heavy for me , consequently moved away from bracelets to leather as its light and nice too look at.

I’d appreciate spending more time on closeups of the watches than the presenter’s face. The little time the camera is on the screen, please make it a closeup, hold it steady, and let us see the watch. Cut down on the verbiage. Just the facts, please. Too much ego. That would improve the experience.
