Four Ear Styles on a Poodle | In this video, I demonstrate four ways to trim a Poodles Ear. These styles can be used on any dog with a full curly ears.

1. This style is the blunt Ear. The Ear is scissored straight across giving it a blunt cut, it can also be called the Pixie Cut.
2. This style in the Rounded Ear. The ends are rounded giving it a round look. It can be called the Puppy Ear.
3. This style is the Skimmed Ear. Basically the outer hair of the ear that makes it so fluffy is skimmed down to make it less fluffy.
4. This style is the Comb Clip. A comb attachment is used to clip the ear shorter and then the ear is Scissored following the ear leather.
Each of these styles can be adjusted either shorter or longer.

It’s amazing how fast their hair grows. I chose to learn to groom my standard poodle rather than pay professionals to do it. Getting good at it is not something that happens overnight. It’s actually a good thing I have plenty of spare time. At first it was not a pleasant task but I’ve learned to enjoy it and it’s become a hobby for me. I must be doing OK because I get lots of compliments on how great he looks. Your videos have helped me a lot. Thank you👍🏻

@@diabolushendrix2178 You have to pluck the ears, or they're liable to an ear infection, as no air could get in after a while. Unpleasant job I know, but worthwhile. Get a set of haemostatic clamps, it's what my vet used, so he ordered me some too. Kind of like scissors to look at, but round ended and grip instead of cut

Always clipped my mini boy's ears short like the end cut, but more triangular because people always mistook him for a female as it was. Plus I just liked that puppy-ish look. Recently had to put him down at 16. Best dog ever. Best breed ever. When the time is right, hope to get a standard. Awesome video! Beautiful, well behaved boy you have.

I've watched this countless times! Your videos are so helpful and clear! Thank you for taking the time to explain so much. It probably seems basic to you, but for those of us learning, you are a wealth of information. Plus you have a nice calm voice :) I keep my boy's ears in a German cut. It took me awhile to get used to shaved ears, but I like it for a male. And it's so easy! But my girl has fluffy ears and I struggle to make them look tidy and even. Thank you for all the options!

I'm taking all of this in so Kobi can look as cute as your kids do! I just ordered nice Andis clippers and Wahl comb attachments so I can get serious about this! Grooming a standard is no joke, it's serious stuff! It's so fun though and if I make a few wrong moves well, his hair grows like a weed too so no biggie! Thanks for making these great videos :)

+Milady Nazar I love the #2 and # O. The #2 is shorter than the #0. If want s shorter cut get a#2 or longer cut #O. I like them both. #2 is nice for body work. So overall a #2 is the best in my own opinion. Thanks for watching.

You are such a great teacher. This has helped me so much as I am learning how to groom my tiny toy poodle myself. I have so much respect and gratitude to you groomers as it’s really hard. I think my groomer had to put my furr baby up in a ? Harness in order to do her paws as she is so so ticklish, makes it extremely hard to do. Any suggestions. Hi I’m Karla, I have a tiny red poodle and have just discovered that Conditioner and or leave in conditioner makes grooming so so much easier. Thank you. You’ve got a Beautiful Boy there.

Hi, I love these clippers for body work amzn.to/2hweAi1. These are the attachment combs, they need to be used with a #30 bladeamzn.to/2AVrazJ If he is afraid of the noise groom in small sessions daily and use positive reinforcement. The Bravura Trimmers are more quiet amzn.to/2hv8xKx and are best used for the face, feet, tail base and sanitary but can be used on the body with the comb attachments after a bath and a through comb out as they do not go through knots or tight coats. These are the comb attachments for the Bravura amzn.to/2AT1gN3

What a sweet dog! Very nice job on ears, I learned something, thank you! Please could you advise me? 1. I need a set of small clippers to do detail work on my mini poodle and small dogs that I groom. Its for small dog faces, ears, paws and groin shave downs. I have the BravMini from Wahl, but not happy about frequent battery replacements needed, and having to send in for servicing each time. Do you have recommendations for small clippers? What do you use? 2. I see you are using the Heiniger Saphir A5 Clipper with combs. I have the Andis AGC2 A5 Clipper. Are you happy with the Saphir? Its 4 times more than Andis. Why did you buy this instead of Andis? Does it need drive shaft replacements? Any flaws? Do steel combs come with it? Does it get hot on #30 blade fast? Can you change battery yourself on the Saphir? 3. Scissors - would love to know what you use for straight shears - brand name and length. 4. An online store you use? I use Petedge, but not too happy with their website. Thank you for your help!

Hi, I use the regular sized Wahl Bravura amzn.to/2YnlysB. I also use the mini with no problems so far. The regular sized bravura is excellent for small dogs. The bigger clipper is called the Wahl km 10 amzn.to/2SHGfyg I love this clipper, it comes cordless also amzn.to/2LJgahH I never had a problem with either clipper except for changing the blade drive lever. Hi!! Great video!! I have a question. I’m about to get my boy here in a few weeks. It will be my first standard poodle. And I think I want to grow his hair out. Any advice? Do you recommend banding him immediately? How often should I take them out/put them in? I’m prepared to brush him out daily, but how often should I bathe him? Any tips or tricks?? Hi, I have never banded a poodle but I recommend a channel called Leading Edge Dog Show Academy, go check her out I think she has a video on banding, if not I am sure there are some videos on when and how to band. Weekly or biweekly bathing and drying is a great way to take care of a longer coat. Good luck with your new Poodle.

I keep my Spoo's ears shorter than shown here and the edge trimmed to the leather. Not German cut ears- a little fluff but shorter.

What a wonderful model you have hahaha wish my 13 week old peekapoo would be still... At all!!! Many years ago I had a standard party poodle that was black and white named "Duke" aka Treesprings Duke of Hazzard and he was so easy to groom. Your beautiful parti really makes me miss him... Anyway I am a 100% service connected disabled veteran. We recently purchased Zoey who will be 7lbs at full maturity and I am trying to figure out how I am going to groom this micro fluff ball. Her hair is super fine and my old whal cheapy pet clippers just dont work on her at all. I do have a vintage Oster clipper thay you can switch the blades on and I hope I can get some blades for it that will work on her superfine coat. Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated. She will be trained to be a low blood sugar alert service dog. Having wife 4 girls at home 4,11,13,15 really strains our VA Disability budget so home grooming is a must. We sold off some stuff and told the kids they were getting less for christmas so we could buy Zoey after out last dog got hit by a car (live out in the country, dog pulled a houdini, backroads racer hit her) Now with Zoey she is being trained to a litter box and is with us at all times. I dont want to ever go through the hit by a car thing again. When I get home in a couple hours I will see what model the Oster is, guessing a 76? Hoping you can give me suggestions on which blades and combs (if Nessicary) to purchase. Budget is super tight so I could really use the guidance. My email is inspireveterans@gmail.com
