Great picks. These "four favorites" videos should really only be asked in a sit down format because then the filmmakers will actually have time to discuss why their picks impacted them so much. Asking this on a red carpet or in a press junket just doesn't give them enough time to do so (even if it is an extremely common question). I get that those other videos get quick engagement (because literally when else is someone like Tom Hanks going to talk to Letterboxd), but i think there should just generally be more engagement around the art. Adil and Bilal clearly knew they were going to be asked this and had time to gather their thoughts in a fairly passionate discussion, but many of these "four favorites" guests do not get the chance to do so. If for some reason Letterboxd get the chance to meet Martin Scorsese during the upcoming "Killers of the Flower Moon" press tour, please please please do not ask him his four favorites in a 5 second red carpet interview. 🙏

I was expecting them to say "The Battle of Algiers" by Gillo Pontecorvo. It's a very politically charged, controversial film and spectacular film about Algerian rebels fighting against the French colonisers. I believe its handheld camerawork was influential on City of God's style. It maybe also where the term guerrila style filmmaking came from.
