Likely better because I think Chapelle does more serious subjects than Carlin. There is only one criticism I have. During his performances, he will refer to his child/Ren as "N" words casually. If we all want rid this evil word, why would he place that on his kids heads? It makes no sense to me if this is the worst word to use at a person. That last speech (Mark Twain Award) never fails to bring tears to my eyes. Especially about his Mother, particularly the amazing editing to show his mother remembering and speaking those words she told her beloved son so many moons ago. Dave Chappelle has gotten a lot of flak for things that people of this age of over-sensitivity misconstrued as bias and hateful, when in reality it was quite the opposite. I love him dearly for his strength and bravery in the face of a society that will without much thought strip a person entirely of his livelihood and his life work because of words. . . . even more to the point, jokes. Comedy. Comedy is truly one of the last sacred alters of art that we have to express ourselves (along with music and other means of poetry of the human soul). These alters must be protected at all costs, for they are the most purest forms of ourselves. As with Music, Comedy is the release and expression that we NEED to remember & harness the beauty of life and to laugh at the pain, evil & anguish all the same. Without them we would implode from the stress, fear and horrors of the world that humankind experience and produces. . . . It is a necessary tool needed by all people to get through it all. Dave is a master class at his craft. He is a seer of our kind. . . . .A sage, a philosopher and a revolutionary. We will probably not see a person cut from the same cloth like Dave for a long time, if ever. As with all Art, we must FIERCELY fight and protect it and those artists who are brave enough to bare their souls for the betterment of ALL people.

I'm one of those bottled up guys that hasn't cried a tear in years, but when he was making that connection with his mother while they said the same phrase together got me. I never had that connection with my parents, especially not my mother. I had 2 little tears just roll out of my eyes there and came to say something about it in the comments. However, you phrased it perfectly and in every way I felt. Thank you random KZfaqr and thank you Dave
@nuknukisdead10 ай бұрын
Art can be used for evil too. What do you think propaganda films are? The Third Reich relied heavily on it and the films and speeches are still being studied for their techniques. Just because the execution is artful does not mean society should tolerate it or even accept it. Comedy, like any other form of speech, still has consequences. As times change, so do the consequences. You can disagree with the changes and even fight against them just like another person could agree with the changes and advocate for them, but to claim that all art must be accepted by everyone is nonsense.
