This song makes me think of my Mothers chronic pain. She is the most gentle and positive spirit with nothing to offer the world but love, kindness and compassion. The gentle element of the tune reminds me of her and then the distortion is the jolts of electric like pain up her spine and down her legs into her feet. For anyone that lives battling between peace tranqulity and chronic pain, I'm so sorry you're going through this. Life card deal us a pretty rough hand at times. But please remember you can live with it and it does get manageable. Love will win.

IVE NEVER BEEN LOVE WITH DISTORTION SO MUCH
@illekcim69648 ай бұрын
This is the first Four Tet song I ever heard, loved the contrast of the melody and the harsh synth. It taught me a valuable lesson, beauty isn't beautiful without the harshness, and together they can make something even greater than the sum of their parts.

i dont see how there is any debate over the distortion, it makes the song what it is, it is perfect

i dont know how he incorporated that glitchiness so well into this track - it's insane and adds to the aesthetic of the song instead of destroying it

@Munchy365 that's what makes this song interesting, so cool, like the popping of sparks from the overhead wires, other trains flashing by... Love the glitchiness that he worked into this song, the buzzing noise, some beat breaks, distortion of melodic elements, turns what would have been a boring electro track into total mindfunk.

GREAT WORK
@MrWestie19853 жыл бұрын
I always feel that the first portion of this song is the narration of someone's life; the first distorted section is the spectre of death; the break after that is the acceptance of death; the final distorted section is death itself and the outro is the subject transcending to another plane. Dunno why.

@fdgsa as an ethnomusicology major, i can assure you that the "noises" are arhythmic. they do repeat at the same times, which can be considered a rhythm, but they fall at seemingly random places that are not "in time" and as such are unsettling to my brain. i should note that i dont think playing rhythms that line up perfectly with convention is always necessary. i think it just sounds like shit here.
@tescomealdeals2 жыл бұрын
as someone who's been a drummer since the age of 8 the guitar stabs are in no way arrhythmic, they're just syncopated. maybe try actually counting along before claiming that something is out of time you goddamn buffoon, and stop trying to use your bullshit knowledge of rhythm to justify that you just don't like a song. feel free to dislike it all you want, but stop being such a prick about it
@Kegofbeer13 жыл бұрын
@aldhous it doesnt achieve what i want it to achieve. im selfish like that and i could care less if the track achieved what it wanted to achieve, it achieved something less than what I think it could have. i mean its an otherwise amazing track. i've heard use of disruptive rythms and out of key sounds and whatnot to great effect in other situations but i just dont think it does the song any good. the noises don't build or resolve or bring out anything in the song. all they do is piss me off.
@Kegofbeer13 жыл бұрын
@ the people who like the startling noises that are out of time. no. you are wrong. it sounds like shit and ruins an otherwise great song. if you want to use out of time dissonance shit to build up tension and release or provide contrast that is not how you do it.
