Martin Cochran from Memoria Press really helped me understand that even reading the "ugly" is solid literature helps our children understand and develop their morals.

We’ve been using the new level three with my nine-year-old fourth grade daughter this year. We are about 40 lessons in and I can say it’s very well done. She is progressing nicely with it whereas other levels have not worked for her in the past and we are both really enjoying it.

I almost just ordered the level 3 readers (since we’re using the old version pdf) but I’m so glad you mentioned they’re free! I didn’t realize the books were included 😍

I want to love TGTB. It is good and it is beautiful. It's affordable, I love how it looks, and I love how it teaches good morals. But the lessons are long and there's a ton of reading on the parent's part. And there's not much that appeals to rough and tumble boys. We're using Easy Peasy for now but may look around for something else next year. Sonlight has always appealed to me.

I get what you're saying about the reading books--I very much appreciate variety, cleverness, big adventures, and humor in children's books--not solely sticking to stories that feel like "moral tales."

I’ve been waiting for this video!! Thank you! We are a first generation homeschool family here and I just feel like I struggle so much choosing a language arts. I was a public school math teacher so that’s an easy subject for me but I am so not language arts brained. 🤪 I’ve been on the fence about TGTB since we’ve used it from the beginning but I simply can’t find one I love and I thought yesterday “I should just use what Christine uses we always seem to have similar styles.” And here we are. So thanks!

The new level 3 of TGTB is my absolute fav! The books have been amazing! I sincerely can’t say anythg bad about it. Only thing I’m concerned about is the transition into the next level. Hoping it will b a smooth one.

@@ThisHomeschoolHouse Also, to be fair, we have liked the 3rd grade stories pretty well, and there is a bit more action in some of them, that keeps things more interesting.

Yes!! My son would not like TGATB Literatire selections at all. He also didn’t like many of the Sonlight titles. I let him choose his books and he does so well. He just finished Robin Hood I purchased from Memoria Press with a Lit Guide. Now he’s reading a Gary Paulson book he checked out from the library. He will give me an oral narration one day and a written narration the next. We will alternate every day until he finishes the book.

I am the opposite, this is our first year homeschooling and will stick to TGTB, because I know she hasn't been exposed to that "good" reads. But then again, I have a girl who is very loving :) I do Abeka math because that is the style she was taught at her private school and she is good at it.

I totally agree that TGTB is too “good & beautiful.” 😂 That’s one of the reasons why we’re switching. I have little boys that are sweet and innocent but definitely call out and laugh at how “good” everything is. They are 7 & 4.

We used TGTB for my 2nd and 3rd grader and we’ve really enjoyed the 3rd grade readers but my second grader has sat through the stories. So for next year I know he’ll be very “I already know this story” because we will use the same curriculum for him. Honestly, I don’t want to read them again either 😅 so I’m going to try and make his own book list instead and if he wants to, he can read the other books again for fun.

Are the lessons in MWC 3 taught exclusively with the first page in the student workbook or is there a hands on lesson and a lesson taught using the first workbook page? I guess what I’m asking is if MWC is more streamlined than MWC K-2 (where there are a lot more cards etc). I hope that makes sense. We are using MWC and are loving it but I’ve been wondering about the new layout of MWC 3
@ThisHomeschoolHouse
@ThisHomeschoolHouse 6 ай бұрын
A lot of the time it just uses the first page. The odd time it may not, but I would say that it's the majority. There are some manipulatives but I would also say there are fewer than the earlier grades.

I had this problem with kindergarten MWC. I despised it because of the cards. Another mom told me to use a spinner app, I use spin the wheel, now in first grade MWC, and it’s a game changer. No more cards. I only use cards for addition war. It’s a game changer and now I love MWC because of it. 😉

What are your thoughts on the level 3 TGTB spelling? It seems like it is focused on more at that level but I’m wondering if I should add a separate spelling curriculum.

I don't prefer one over the other. We've just needed them during different seasons. We haven't tried any others so I can't recommend anything else. :) I know there are other great curriculums though!

I’ve noticed that TGTB books can be a bit too old fashioned!!! I see how the books are too perfect for the younger yrs!!! We love their language arts tho!!! We love MWC and I printed extra game boards for my kids to play the games again!!! I think most spelling curriculums so up to about level 6 so it doesn’t matter how long it takes!!! I count discussions as narrations!!!

I do not like the books for level 3. The first one is good, but the next two made me refuse to finish the last reader. They like to beat you over the head with their moral messaging vs showing it. I am easily annoyed by this lazy writing but even my friend who is not, asked her kid if he wanted to finish it. She was over it as well. I am going to download the old level 3 reader which looks way more interesting.
