As someone who has studied the homeless issue extensively, your use of the word "unhoused" indicates that you do not understand this issue at all. The source of this entire problem is a self-imposed addiction issue with living on the streets being one of the symptoms. The reason cities like LA, DC, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle (all Democrat run) having this issue get worse and worse it because they approach it as the vagrants being victims of circumstances outside their own power. They are victims of THEIR choices and the rest of us are unfairly forced to pay the price as well. Giving to those on the streets without requiring anything on their parts keeps the cycle going, which enables this behavior and condition. One of many examples is Vista, CA. Their Mayor said that 93% of their homeless refuse help. This would require them to get off of drugs/booze and be self-disciplined to make themselves be productive citizens. To them, being on the street is a small price to pay to get free drug, alcohol, and cigarette money from panhandling, and getting to do what you want whenever you want on their terms at the expense of the greater community. Metro areas with the highest homeless rates are losing population in record numbers because such behavior ruins the quality of life (including higher crime) in our communities for those of us who have chosen to make better choices and work to make our communities nice. So, I applaud the city of not allowing the vagrants to overrun the airport. Our right to a clean, decent city overrides anyone's perceived "right" to sponge off of the rest of us and make our cities look like 3rd World countries.
