@wrath Since thou presumest to thyself the right of Almighty God, then be it so! But and if, in ten or twenty years time it transpires that the person ye killed was innocent - and ye got it wrong - then unlike God, thou wast not infallible. And yet thou hast then taken the life of an innocent person. So by thine own words be thou judged. And let all of you who were part of that person's killing, directly or indirecly, not hide yourselves behind an abstraction called "the State", or "the Laws of the State". No. Ye yourselves, all of you that say as thou, have made yourselves responsible. So let you have this right to kill, BUT when ye get it wrong, then be prepared to forfeit your own lives - life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth - for the innocent ye have slain! And since I do not believe ye have the right to kill, I say, fine, do as thou sayest here - but forfeit thine own freedom later if it turns out that thou wast wrong. Thou be judged by thine own words.

When I was in jail, we had our court hearings on the television in a group. One girl was sentenced to 11 years in prison. She didn't even flinch when she got her sentence. No facial expressions, no tears...nothing. Then about 8 hours later it hit her hard when we were back in our jail cells. Out of the blue she started screaming and crying with terror. That was only 11 years. I can't imagine what it would feel like to finally hit you hard later on after receiving life or death.

I’m a survivor of a crime. It was clear the young men were guilty. Court was just a last ditch effort for the defense and it was hard on everyone. When the verdict was read, “Guilty,” I heard/saw the mother and grandmother of 2 of the defendants cry out. It’s a sound you cannot get out of your head, but the crime never leaves my head either, and a punishment was warranted. As a mother, I could empathize with the defendant’s families and I genuinely felt for them. During my victim’s impact statement, I spent less time on how the crime impacted me, and more time talking about how they impacted their own loved ones. The defendants actually looked up at me then, and I feel like that had more impact on them than anything. It was almost as if they hadn’t even considered how their Mothers would feel. It was a freeing moment for me as well, but it still saddens me to this day. I can’t imagine being in that mother’s position.

I think this because when someone is senetced to death it is partly due to being made an example to would be convicts but if this is the case why do people still do it but in countries wear the death penalty is outlawed there is less homicide. But this would lead in to causation or coralation and the fact American prison is not the worst but is still horrendous at rehabilitation and so on

I ran into the prosecutor around 5 years after the trial and he shared with me that there was even more evidence regarding the defendant’s guilt than what was allowed in the trial. I appreciate that he spent a little time outlining what a danger the person posed to the community. Not all jurors get this kind of closure.

Reading this in 2022 and so facinated by how Mark Sievers was found out, charged and sentenced to life/death for having bis wife bludgeoned to death. His neighbors had no proof that Mark killed her but they said he was evil. Clues were few but it is the greatest sleuthing ever, from Florida to Missouri, by the State of Florida' DA's office. ADA Ross. And Mr. Hunter.

The Detectives really had him at one of the Interrogations...They would come in, show him/question him and then leave to WATCH him through the glass...In one instance, he was shown a photo of the door having been tampered with- seeing that got him all excited, would appear it was a break in, the detectives left the room and MS had a YEAH** moment with visual arms waving about and verbalizing-yes-yes !!! then going into his huffing/puffing over the top charades.

@JBS5022

Ever read Isaiah Chapter 45 verse 7? It says, I form the light and I create darkness I make peace and I create evil I the LORD do all these things. So if God allowed this evil to befall this woman as a wife...something seems to be amiss here. But He also gave man charge over man to do whatever man thinks he ought to do with whomever he has jurisdiction over. So when man thinks evil against man in a jurisdiction and by standards of his earthly laws, is he justified? Essentially yes because God has given him the spirit of evil to bear the sword against evil doers. But who is to say that Sievers himself wasn't carrying out another part of God's plan as well. New Testament says, " The wage of sin is death....so was Sievers wife also sinning and got caught and got killed for committing sinful acts against her husband? The fury of the LORD God works both ways...its a two edged sword....and to all that violate those laws...both God's and man's can be prosecuted both by God and man as well. So now it's Sievers turn to die but he is also escaping the rudimentary rule of man and was given the better of two choices. Not serving a life sentence for which he would eventually die anyway. To becoming the victim of man's rudimentary totalitarian rule under the heading of justice. Or in many cases " JUST-US ". And while I am here I will also say..that our judiciary proclaims under the cannons for ethical practice by prosecutors...they must seek " Justice " not vindictive, prosecution. They cannot allow their own personal feelings to interfere with their judicial priorities to seek justice. But in a modern society where the zeal of a political thirsty prosecutor is wailing in a court room his colleague the imperial judge of the court. Grants plenty of leeway and discretionary butchering of the U.S. and State Constitutions to get a conviction. The corruption allowed in the court rooms today by judges and prosecutors is to say the " fair and impartial trial by twelve honest men has long since been corrupted and destroyed. The old cliche under the rule of thumb was that the defendant was innocent until proven guilty by either reasonable doubt of the evidence...or in civil cases preponderance of evidence. Those laws were originally the bulwarks of an evolving standard of society. But those bulwarks were butchered when district attorney's were allowed to offer circumstantial evidence in the place of hard facts and determined tangible evidence. The loophole that gave prosecutors the edge for every criminals prosecution innocent or guilty. Circumstantial evidence is usually offered through investigators assumptions and " beliefs " what they think happened. And as certified professional witnesses for the state...they are allowed to testify based on circumstantial beliefs instead of hard facts gathered and garnered as real tangible evidence. That's America today....
