I thoroughly enjoyed this. My mother-inlaw has what one would have called dropsy in the old days. She takes a medicine for her failing heart containing digitalis. She turns 86 this year and she still lives alone and loves life because of this amazing flower. Thankyou for telling us such an inspiring story. I believe that Mrs Hutton of Shropshire should be memorialised with a statue and plaque for her great contribution to man and womankind. Perhaps even a postumous Nobel Prize. Her observation of nature would have saved millions of lives worldwide.

When the term "Man" is used in "Mankind" it does not mean "Men". It is a collective asexual term that encompasses all human beings. When you use the incorrect term "Womankind" you encourage division, group think etc. Another example is the term "Human beings". This does not describe men alone even though it has "man" in it.

I was born during the 2nd W.War, so my parents would have pulled a bunch of wild foxgloves and put them in a vase, i was about 4 years at the time, and i used to pull the flowers of the plant, and suck the juice out of them, i might have gone through a whole stem, before being caught on. The sweet fluid was inside the finger glove of the flower. I loved the taste, in those days everything was rashioned, sweets etc. The foxgloves never did me any harm, i am now 80, and still here. ❤ WIinifred Thompson. G.B. I just hope people won't handle this flower and make teas, tinctures, etc. I'm extremely allergic to even touching it. Though I have many in my Cottage Garden for the beauty. I learned how to handle them with disposable gloves and washing my clothes afterwards. These plants have to be used by those with great knowledge. It goes for any other plants as well. Dosage, mixtures, processing. People need knowledge not to get into trouble. Nature offers many wonders, but without knowledge they can also kill. I'm all for herbs and nutrition. God gaves us all we need. Although sometimes things are not as simple as they seem.

He was mowing lawn and grazed his knuckle on garden wall and brushed past the foxglove. He described what happened and he said he was really ill heart kept going crazy, mad pains in his chest sweating like mad vomiting. All of it. Like a soldier he grinned and bared it. Flushed himself all sorts. Eventually he was alright. Be good to some how extract this poison and blow dart it on all ceos of the clot shot.
