Death and Reincarnation, and Karmic to another life is like depositing your money in one ATM and withdrawing it from another ATM. Its the same value (Karma) but the dollar that you deposited previously. For those who doesn't believe in afterlife...Buddha taught us that the last thought we have before we died reborn us to another realm.

Watching and listening to the teachers in all of these videos, there is a calmness, a grace and a flow to every movement, every breath and every word they utter that is absolutely ethereal and a truly moving experience to observe, even through a screen. Thank you for providing this wonderful opportunity to experience this. :)

There is the materialistic view, which identifies the mind with the brain. And there's the mind only view, who tells that all the experiences are but projections of the mind, which is immaterial. During a deep meditation, you will see that neither the physical senses , nor the mental emotions are the original mind. The pure mind is formless, beginningless, it is peace which transcends the impermanent realities ( senses , emotions, thoughts ).

It depends on the fisherman's karma accumulated in all his previous lives right up to the moment of death. The wholesome karma created while he was feeding others may or may not be enough to compensate. However, in Theravada Buddhism, the act of feeding a highly noble person such as an arahant creates extremely wholesome karma. Interestingly, Ven. Moggallana, one of the Buddha's closest disciples was a serial killer and still attained final enlightenment in the same lifetime.

Regarding to the rebirth, the Buddha said in the suttas that we are reborn because of our ignorance (attachments, the idea of self). They generate impure thoughts, and based on the kind of thoughts we identify with , when we die, these continue to generate existence.For ex: an angry and violent man will be born in animal realm, or a drug user or alcoholic will be born in ghost realm - the wandering realm. I think through meditation we will find all the answers. Good luck on your path friend ! :)

The mind is not formed of any cells at all my friend. It always existed and it's immaterial. It generates new bodies, based on our actions and our emotions in our previous lifes.

Is "rebirth" meant to be interpreted literally, or is it more of an idea to aid us adopting the proper mindset when practicing? This distinction seems like a very important point, at least to those of us interested in Buddhism who are coming from a traditional Western way of viewing the world. I guess I just find it strange that even the best Buddhist teachers, like Karin Valhalm in this video, don't seem to understand how jarring it is to us newcomers when ideas such as "rebirth" are casually thrown around as if they should be accepted without a second thought. By the way, these videos are great, and I very much appreciate that they have been made available like this. Thanks so much to FPMT!

Dear Ugyen, Thank you for writing. One thing that I don't understand though. Does it matter if our mind is more than just a product of our pfysical brain and senses? I mean we think, we feal, we suffer and we can feal happiness. The dynamics are the same, right? And as you I agree that our lifes are made bye our present and an ever changing "now". How we behave now, makes the future 😊 And I am so happy that it does 😉 All the best.

I am confused. Around 23:00 she talks about dying in fear and the animal kingdom and she seems to say that animals live in fear and when you die in fear you have a good change to reincarnate as an animal. What? If there is anything on earth that is actually fearful, it's humans. We are afraid even if there is nothing going on. Animals only react on seeming danger right now and not about what maybe happens in three days, like we do.

Misunderstand, she mean that the man used to killed animal in his life (in buddhism, u cannot harm any creature including human and animal, because we believed karma) he scared for what he did before he died, that's why the woman tried to make the man to think positive before he died, because if the man still thinking bout his bad karma (killing animal) before he died, than he could be reincarnate as an animal, if u reincarnate as an animal, there's so little ways for u to pay your bad karma, when you live as animal than you think as an animal, killing for living, then your chance to reincarnate as a human is far far away

So the answer is that we are infinite ... because we are all interconnected so we never really die.. is not such a thing like death may be in a physical way but no completely.. so we are alive always in different forms.. so that doesn't mean that you are going to be unhappy without any purpose but without not fear

light is the bliss of that moment its the gate to the path forward ,it is the first step of releasing and realising of consciousness ... people who lived life ignorantly without realising the basic nature of impermanence as if death can not occur to them those kind of people become so delusioned and confused that they will not realise even after death that they have died and they will not even recognise that WHITE light and will not step inn out of confusion and the precious time is lost

This is probably the hardest for me to wrap my skeptical mind around. When people start to claim that the mind continues after death...well frankly you wander into faith at that point, i.e. nobody can prove what happens to you (yet) if anything. However I think the contemplation of death is a very good thing. I certainly hope to have some calm moments before I go but no guarantees right? I could also be subject to extreme pain and not have to capacity to focus. However knowing you are finished at death is certainly is a motivator to live a fulfilling life. Of course what constitutes a fulfilling life is different to a lot of people but it seems in the Buddhist Traditions a lot of it means having a calm mind. Thoughts? Perhaps a Buddhist can give me an answer or insight. Thanks I've been enjoying watching this series.

hello Robby, when it comes to the mind, it gets flip sided - in essence, Buddha taught that everything that has an arising, has a cessation, and that does include the idea of a permanent "self" or "I" (there is no permanent self effectively, but our ego's disagree with that truth!). Whereas convention in the West says there is a thinker behind the thought, Buddha teaches that the thought is the thinker (not static, but forever changing). If you're interested in the core teaching, have a look at "the four Noble Truths". I doubt that answered your question, but it might have given you a few more questions.

Peter Lee has deleted my reply to his comment in the thread he started. I feel that is improper because he has openly abused Buddhists and is refusing to allow a reply. So I am posting his comment and my reply here: Peter Lee: "i believe all words in the Holy Bible are inspired words of God. your twisted mind can only accept a small subset of the words of Jesus; you dare not even accept the first greatest commandment mentioned by Jesus; ok, I have accepted Jesus Christ as my savior and my Lord, and follow solely His path to eternal life; you follow your path of Tibetan Buddhism to destruction; this is your own choice; Buddha should welcome you in hell with ceaseless burning fire. Buddha and you together with other Buddhists should form a big party to "enjoy" there in eternity." (end of quote) Reply to Peter Lee: You say you accept Jesus as your saviour, but obviously you are NOT following Jesus' own commandment to "love your neighbour as you love yourself." That makes you a hypocrite. Just look at what you wrote above about Buddhists. If you love your neighbour as you love yourself, you will not so happily accept your neighbour being tormented forever simply for not blindly believing exactly what you believe! This, in fact, illustrates the most important way Paul contradicts Jesus. By listening to Paul instead of Jesus, you now find it impossible to obey Jesus’ own commandment! Remember Jesus himself said "Not everyone who calls me 'Lord, Lord' will enter the Kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 7:21). So please start listening to Jesus himself, instead of listening to Paul. Again, what Jesus is telling us to do is exactly the goal in Tibetan Buddhism. You can’t see this because you are listening to Paul, and not to Jesus. At the very least, you should stop denigrating a spiritual tradition that genuinely teaches universal compassion.

almost there ... its better to think of death as a new birth , to live in this human form the old sperm and egg had to die ( in a way ) same as the caterpillar dies so the butterfly can live .. Simple ... you need to find your soul mate / cosmic sperm or egg ... and if blessed , you will live a life better than you can imagine after your , transition ... some say depending on how you do , you might have a redo here or get sent to another realm ... the creator wants to place you where you fit in best ... its not even like Hell ... kinda

So... where is the actual evidence for rebirth? Also, death and suffering are not inevitable in principle, they are an engineering problem brought about by the non random survival of randomly varying replicators. Now change itself is inevitable, if meditation can help you cope with it, good for you.

You can also ask….. where is the evidence that rebirth does not occur?
@Lihinel
@Lihinel 3 жыл бұрын
@@Lee-yn1by To do that you have to first make some actual claims. What are the mechanisms? What gets reborn? How much "time" goes by between rebirths? What is preserved, what is lost? Does it only occur on earth, or everywhere there is live? Are there heavens and hells your "what" may stay? For how long? How does it deal with mass extinction events? If there are multiple planets involed, why dont we have memories of those? And so on... Lets start with these, I have way more in case you have a solid definition. If you don't, there is nothing clearly defined, for which I could find evidence against.

@@Lihinel variant time to get reborn, depends on ur karma. it occur on everywhere there is live. there is hell and heaven.. even there are some level on hell and heaven. and depends on ur karma, it is not permanent u stay there like other religion another planet invovled, even they have their own hell and heaven. about past live, i ever immediately cry when i hear some mantra in a mall, i dont know why. i feel like i ever heard that mantra before and have a connection with it. but if u only want to compare with ur religion. just forget what i say and what u heard about buddhism, no problem, we dont care.

don't wish to be born in a billionaire family, it will just make it harder to let go of attachment. Just pray that when you will be reborn , there will still be Dharma, that you will again have a chance to be exposed to it. Your aim is to achieving enlightenment , not to even desire to be born into the Devas realm, because even it is the highest , most pleasure existence, in the end of that incarnation you will still fall into rebirth into the lower realms, and still experience suffering.

A human death woke him up to the reality of the pain of death but countless deaths of slaughtered pigs did not!? Why is that? The pigs did not want to die either... No being wants to die.. People are so arrogant and only come to these teachings when they start to think about their own little egoic life.... I woke up at the death of a bird.... when I was a child. We are animals .. we are all animals in fear. We forget we are animals...Humans... all of them are in fear. There is no separation of realms. They merge. we travel through them all in life and death. It is all about not getting stuck .. And nobody knows what happens at death. Even the buddhists' ideas are simply concepts... beliefs.. to help overcome the fear.

Human souls reencarnate in human bodies, animal souls in animal bodies, another theory that doesnt make any logical sense, human souls reencarnating as animals,, buddhism has lots of precious teachings, but the anatman theory also, to me it´s a bit strange to say the least, and i just dont connect with those theories. Also, the soul its what we are, and the soul has 3 things that form us.....the souls, and they are the mind, the intelect and the sanskaras or personality traces which is formed through our experiences and decisions. The only way you can leave samsara or birth and rebirth is becoming Karmateet, or having cleansing our negative karma, and yet that doesnt releases us form the kalpa, which is circular and it will repeat itself, thus.....birth and rebirth again. And NO....we dont possess a soul....we are souls, mind is a function of us the souls......we arent minds, but again, this is what i believe, best wishes and limitless blessings to all beings :)

If you look at the evolution of the pineal gland and the vertebrae it seems that consciousness may have evolved to suit the biological apparatus of the time. We may just be the oldest and so far wisest souls around. Perhaps we can 'descend' into lesser but for us the only ups are rebirth into another human form or ascend. That's how I make sense of thing anyway. As for what you said about the soul, I tend to think you right in a sense. I like the Catharism of believing we are angels though they think we fell. I think we are still there but our consciousness isn't, much like being caught in a dream. Even a physicist theorised that our bodies are controlled by our auras, rather than our EMF being a by-product of our neural activity.
@junfan31
@junfan31 9 жыл бұрын
Indeed we r angels that just forgot about it, successions of inumerous births, just made us forget about who we r, we, the souls, need to go bk into our origin of being and unleash all that potencial again. Angels, deities its all the same, that just means that we were once pure, fully aware of our spiritual form, but by identifying with the bodies, we lost it and we fell. we descended all that we could, look at the world, we need to ascend now...its the only way, and the kalpa show us just that, after the contraction comes the expansion, let us expand then, heal ourselves and the world

The previous video of this series was also 'way off' by encouraging people to only seek out the best of the best Buddhist monk teachers which I find very much profit-alike common commercial material... The teaching then becomes non-pure teaching and more focused on promoting one's self for higher status and more profit. "To seek and follow a monk teacher I would consider the same as seeking and believing in one leader, one superior, one god (so the ego and arrogance aspect arises, creating an impure mind-state, to become the best of the rest and therefore creating a false reality as a result of more ignorance). The teaching and understanding of Buddhism comes in all colors, therefore anyone can read any version of the scripts and make his own interpretation of it. What is most important and where our focus should be is really in the practice of meditation which will open your mind into pure mind-states and see pure reality as it is"

PolarCub64 orion9k I am watching this series, as a way to introduce myself to Buddhism, and thought the same at first. However knowing the little which I do I also feel that the instruction they give suggesting seeking one guru to follow is just a beginning. Earlier in the series they speak of the Historical Buddha and his path to enlightenment. He seeks out a teacher, the perfect teacher. Once a teacher has taught him perfectly the lesson he has to teach he seeks out a new lesson and a new teacher. And he continues to do so until there are none who can teach him more to reaching enlightenment. This is the point which he seeks enlightenment on his own. I think this is the point which the last video was trying to make. They say that one of the ten requirements of a teacher is that the guru must know more than the student. If this is not met you must seek another. This does not mean that you must seek out only the guru which has the most knowledge. Only that to further your own enlightenment and progress the path and being able to have that compassion to help others completely you need to find one who is closer to that than you so that they may help you on this path. These videos are following their own path, and you can not take their meaning individually just as you can not follow a path by bypassing the first steps or their meanings. Please correct me if I am incorrect, in this way I ask that you be my first teacher.

+Brandyn Abel A teacher can teach you many things (good and bad) but the best teachers will teach you how to think for yourself. I do not need lessons in ethics and morality (what all religions are based on, even Buddhism) - These teachings are a replica of old social systems (society culture - people relations) that emerged ages ago - but the truth is that all kind of social systems will always exist where ever you go and find groups of people trying to organize and create social stability. Going to school and learning about scientific methods, recognizing systems, social systems, social relations etc. and combining this with clear thinking (meditating) has brought my enlightenment above and beyond anything that any monk, any preacher, teacher or any other "expert" could ever teach me about life, society and human relations.

I disagree. I think that his contribution was incredibly important. He drives home the importance of being prepared for the reality of death so that we do not have to die in fear. I have seen many people die, a few peacefully, most in fear. Those who were able to die well are great teachers. If we practice the dharma with a sense of urgency, we may be able to join the ranks of these teachers. I also think the frightening people is not necessarily against that Buddhism is trying to teach. Buddhism's wrathful deities are certainly intended to be frightening. Sometimes we need fear to move us onto the right path.
