This rifle served me well in Afgha , very accurate with the J8 SCOPE and its ballistic reticle calibrated for the armor percing precision round. calibrated until 850 meters and it was all in everytime...just had to take into account wind and altitude (shooter/target )....miss this old lad

@@northpointaxe6167 I was in an regular airborne unit (1erRHP - 1st PARA LIGHT RECCE BATTALION )not SF and in 2010 we only had the FRF2, and some HK417 in 16"( the early ones which still had the full auto selector ) but not too many. Also SAKO TRG42 in 338LM but only when deployed with SF. The ballistic reticle on the J8 scope was usable and graduated until 850 and we didn't bother messing with elevation as it was dead-on everytime. Past 900/950 it was worthless for us as we had 20mm auto-cannon on VAB T20/13 and infantry with PGM HECATE 2 in 50.BMG for "treating" targets. Still remember fighting in CQB with it after being ambushed as i get used to let my FAMAS in the vehicle in order no to be overloaded with too much gear..unfortunately i was not NCO at the time and didn't have an handgun and relied on the MINIMI gunner always with me for support...MISTAKE but loved it as it made me remember my time playing COD and MOH with bolt action 😂

@@desperado8605 yes but we only had to shoot human targets...still don't understand why we didnt have regular FMJ bullets. I also had some boxes of M118 ammo given by a comrade from the 82nd

A bunch of those Scrome J8 scopes are on the market because a middle east customer got them as part of a military package and then upgraded to an S&B scope. Then selling the scopes on the open market to help offset the cost differences.

I agree with Henry on that last-round hold-up feature that the FR rifles have. I get it, as a holdover from the MAS36 it makes sense, but precision rifles really benefit from being able to drop a round in the action without loading a whole new magazine. *i didn't know he'd talk about it. I just saw him struggle with it in the video and remembered the PA video.

I know that it would be difficult, but some sort of randomized alternating distances for the targets would be interesting as it would allow us to know how a rifle would be able to pick-up targets in more realistic scenarios. Thanks for the great videos!

It seems very apparent to me (as an armchair marksman) that optics continue to play a massive role in increasing the performance of a particular platform. Great run overall.

That is correct. Its why many shooters will spend the same $$ or more on the scope as they do on the rifle.

A crappy optic can ruin a good rifle. But a stellar optic can't help a clapped out barrel, a poorly repeating bolt or inconsistent ammo.

Look of the rifle down to each detail from nose to butt speaks itself like a piece of French art. One can appreciate it as an art piece. But its punch power down the range even to the 600m just amazed me. Watching that solid punch no bad guy would walk open in the field.

Just about any bolt action made today has a minimum of 1moa out of the box or better. What I was saying, I wish they made them look like this rifle. I just like the looks of it, could almost pass as a sci-fi rifle.

I’m always impressed how truly excellent marksmen can squeeze off a shot and not even reflexively blink when the rifle fires. I was a pretty good competition long-range shooter until an epiretinal gliosis screwed up my eye, but suppressing such a basic reflex is nearly impossible.

A good and interesting run despite being a used rifle. The wear on the rifle, the old mags, and a subpar scope compared to the OG definitely played into the score. That it did so well that the only misses were due to wind really shows it’s an old beast that retains its fangs. This series has been great and I look forward to more.

It would be an interesting comparison to get a baseline with something like an off the shelf hunting rifle. Like a Ruger American that takes the AR mags.

Only bad thing about that would be the only ar mag rifles off the rack are 223/300blk and the mossberg series. I think the ruger with ai mags would be competitive everyone I know that has them loves them very accurate for a rack grade hunting rifle

Only suggested the AR mags for ease of accessibility and capacity. If you wanted to go with a 308 you could do just about anything. A Styer Scout would be fun

A MAS 49-56 that has a fresh barrel would be interesting to see. Most of the examples I’ve seen are shot out but if you get a good one, I feel like it would surprise a lot of people on this course.

You'd need to find one with a good barrel, and find ammunition that is the correct diameter. Hornady used to make the correct bullets (6.5mm/.268", 160gr RN), but I think you'd have to reload your own ammo.

Great video! Would be nice to see a straight pull on the course, and even if it is not a military rifle something like a Heym SR30 or the Savage with the same locking system. I wonder how the system would do compared to other bolt rifles

I love to see you do the same course with something like $1,000 "AR-10" from PSA or s&w. And maybe a six to $800 scope. Like basically Mid weight with a pre-floated M-LOC tube. Same quality of ammo you're running through the other guns.
