Congrats getting in first Graham. I'm sure we'll hear about this over the next couple of days from the big tech channels but you were there first.

not really, old design still made it to market
@maxmustsleep2 жыл бұрын
@@joshuaguenin9507 yeah but instead of crying about it and telling people its not a big deal (like most other tech companies do) they immediately called back their products and stopped sales even if it will hurt their sales on a new product a lot. yes it shouldn't have happened but manufacturing and designing products is tough so mistakes happen. you can only hold people and companies to how they handle situations like that

Big ups to Fractal for not just doing the bare minimum fix, but going overkill on the fix! Mistakes will inevitably happen as you continue to make new products; how a company responds tells you A LOT about whether you should give them your business in the future or not.

I'm disappointed that Fractal managed to make a mistake as simple as this, but I'm happy to see that they went all-out to fix it. And thanks for this quick and clear explanation of what went wrong and what was changed!

Great that they admitted it and replaced it quickly. If this was Apple for example, they would have said was a user error. And not admit the error until they where caught.

Mine 1.0 is scratched on the right screw from manufacturing, can see the metal right through the screw. Thankfully mine came with the 1.1 and a warning sticker on the box.
@redwinedrummer2 жыл бұрын
The irony is that in so much cost-cutting in v1.0, they delivered a potentially dangerous product and had to spend money rushing out v1.1. In the end, they spent more.
@cjmillsnun2 жыл бұрын
They did, but by catching it early, they spent less than they could've done.

You flood fill ground planes. You make power traces thicker if they handle current. I am not an electrical engineer and I know this. Also make use of the Islands function
@jaro69852 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with flood fill power planes. The only actual problem here was not having pads and adequate clearance around the screws.
@IIGrayfoxII2 жыл бұрын
@@jaro6985 It is always safer to make ground filled planes. The revised one should've been done the first time. Thick trace in the middle carrying +12v which can handle 5A easy.
@jaro69852 жыл бұрын
@@IIGrayfoxII As long as there are no screw holes or mounting points near the area, it doesn't matter if its a 12V trace or a plane, either one is "safe". Clearance rules in software can be set to achieve this.

so crazy, who designs those things? how they do a 12v layer mixed with the screws that goes to case? wtf
@TheBobcat19782 жыл бұрын
Wish you could buy this separately. I have a meshify 2, but the fan hub it comes w doesnt do justice if youre using more than 6 pwn fans.
@vasilachealex2 жыл бұрын
Will I be safe using this if I stick it with double-sided adhesive?
@Adamant_IT2 жыл бұрын
I'd make sure it's a nice thick pad, so none of the pins sticking through can contact metal, but yea that'd work. I'd advise getting the replacement and then using screws though, that's the best option.
@matrixmodulator Жыл бұрын
Holy crap lol that must be a beginner who designed this older hub

In their documentation they say fan 1 is supposed to be a f/f cable going to CPU or CPU optional for speed information - but the second center wire already gets the speed info so why claim this? Also why no Y splitter ( if it is supposed to use fan 1 to help the rest ramp up from the cpu without powering it ) or a straight cable... nothing is included except sata power and the other wire, plus the 3 screws. Anyways, this is what I'm going to do to install it... I'll plug my CPU fan coolers into Fan 1 and 2 ( Noctua D15 ) and the cable from the controller into CPU. Then I'll use Fan 9 to Fan 5 for case fans. I may use Fan 3 for my Samsung 970 evo plus 2tb ( gpu is too big to use the same cooler for my 970 pro 1tb which is my primary unless I use in a slot which takes 4 sata ports - so I may swap the 970 evo plus and the 970 pro and move the plus down to the other... ) Or, to verify this will work before doing it, I may use cpu opt for fan 1 and leave the primary fan in cpu and go from there... Technically I could use the motherboard for all fans and I have been but I didn't want to use the 3 amp header in case there ended up being a short or some other issue - 3 amps is a lot for a fan to be able to access if something happens.
@Fezzy9762 жыл бұрын
I can see the new one having a lot of issues with Noctua fans. The lowered current will more than likely not be enough for even 6 fans let alone 9. I have issues with multiple fan hubs and they can't power these fans especially after a restart. Some of the fans will just stop dead. I've checked multiple times the connections, I've changed fan controller twice and they all do the same thing.
@Adamant_IT2 жыл бұрын
Yea I'm not sure... I don't think it needed to be 9 channels. Like, 9 is the maximum number of fans you'd put in this case, which is why they went for that many, but that assumes a 360mm watercooling rad with 6 fans push/pull on the front or bottom. And ain't no one running a setup like that off of a single mobo fan header. Since I'm not using mine though, I might see if I can do some tests on it, to see if the updated version can actually manage 9 fans.

I'm impressed by how Fractal handled this issue. On the other hand it's sad that the state of the PC market is so bad, that a company doing the right thing is unusual (looking at you, NZXT and Gigabyte). Thanks for the video.

3:00 Wow that was a major screw up. No real engineer puts a 12V flood fill on the outside layer of a PCB. Must have been some 17 year old work experience kid who knew absolutely nothing about PCB design LOL!
@theodiscusgaming39092 жыл бұрын
That's just HORRIBLE design, why did they even put 12V everywhere on the PCB?
@gerryjamesedwards12272 жыл бұрын
Laziness is the only thing I can think of, it's easier to flood fill the whole plane than it is to lay the path out manually. The automatic layout tools don't usually do multiple connections very well, in my limited experience.
