Great, clear video! I will get good use of this with my chem students here in the States! (I'll have to explain what bitumen and lorries are!) One comment: there are stronger intermolecular forces in longer molecules because there is more overlap between them and chances for Van der Waal forces to happen. By illustrating them as attracting only at the tips of the molecules, it gives the wrong impression of why they have stronger/weaker attractions.

Hi, at 1:15 isn’t it the molecular forces at the sides of the carbon charm that matters? So that longer carbon chains are better locked togethers with many small bonds?

They are called vanderwall's force of attraction

Van der Waals but very badly represented imo. The longer chains have larger intermolucular forces because they arise all along the chain when molecules are side by side and not just at the ends as the animation suggests

i love you. so easy now, i was never sure how the hydrocarbons just happen to spill out of the tthings sticking out. but now i assume that the vapours rise up the column, if the vapour meets it heat, it runs out, then it flows up until it meets it condensing/boiling point and runs out. following ...
