I think the problem being that really any moderately pleasant fragrance could be considered a "compliment getter", but it depends so much on the person and circumstance. I'm a huge fan of buying decants for this exact reason. 3 mL = 30 sprays to test how you feel about a fragrance and how it actually performs

Sadly you can skip all jeremy fragrance videos right now. I liked him a lot in the past. His last video was only about money and how everyone is paying him so much. I wish him success but what about the passion of fragrance?

Luckily when I started frag collecting, I started with decants to test-drive. I went through most based on these youtube lists, and then looked around Fragrantica to find out which notes I like. I then bought full bottles on discount sites, and am happy with my collection of 12. I didn't buy Bleu De Chanel EDP because of a certain someone calling it a status boost, like a rolex or Ferrari. I bought it because I love the scent. I'm 45 and married with kids. I don't "need" those compliments, but it is nice when I receive them. I have stuck mostly designer so most are acceptable for work/office. When I started, Ash at Gent Scents had a great video about 50 great fragrances. I sampled from here. I then found out I don't care for Neroli personally, and my wife think Oud smells like an old grandpa. I also found out that I love ginger. So knowing what I know, I'm going to avoid Oud For Greatness and Neroli Portofino, regardless what any youtuber says. My point is the videos helped get me going, but now I have a process as to what I'm purchasing. Thank you for this video!

I agree with you on most points except for the bit on clones. Some of us can't afford to pay $300 for a fragrance that we can get a good clone of for anywhere from $20 to $50. Many designers are now reaching niche prices, and this is making it difficult for those either in the fragrance hobby or simply looking for a wonderful fragrance. Clones have a market now - a very big one - and it exists because of the absurd prices of many niche and designer houses. The fact is, nobody is walking around with the bottle of perfume they sprayed on themselves that morning, so clones have made smelling "expensive" accessible. For example, I am wearing Herod by PDM today, but I have a clone I wore last week called Hercules by Maison Alhambra. Absolutely no difference in the scent; you would have a real battle telling which one was which. Each to their own, I suppose, but clones are a fantastic way for people who can't afford expensive perfumes to enjoy and be a part of the fragrance community.

Very good points. All these clickbait videos are simply just sales pitches geared towards weak and desperate men looking for miracles and shortcuts to get access to something they do not have in their lives: success, self confidence, respect and admiration of women. The fact that these kinds videos are put out by attractive female youtubers, who use their physical beauty to lure the prospecrive customers in, only reinforces the false message in the average desperate male consumer of this kind of content. Stay strong, rational and down-to-earth brothers. That is the best antidote for this false cr♧p. 💪🤝👍

On clones or inspired by fragrances. You forget that some of your audience does not come from rich Western countries and the thought of buying a fragrance for $60 is a huge ask. These fragrances have a place. It seems insensitive for you to take that view. I think we should let people make their own purchases. I personally own a range of fragrances but what i like about clones is that their have democratised smelling good. I really do think you need to broaden your horizon of how people live across the world. Its not happening fam. Let people be. Respect though.

I get the comparison between clones and fake clothes but I would say that most people buy fake clothes as a status symbol and to associate with the brand and it’s custumers (all over prints and big logos). But I don‘t buy clones for any of those reasons. I wear fragrances for myself (yes I do) and just like the scent but dont want to spend and absurd amount of money on some nice smelling liquid. I don’t care about the brand or about being associated with it. I just like the scent profile and want to get it for a reasonable price.

Great points. These childish "pantry dropper" and "make her want you" and "these top 10 will get you laid" videos have been getting on my nerves. I wish more reviewers actually focused on reviewing the particular fragrance in detail instead of "promising" that some random dude out there will get laid because he wore the new Gucci PH Parfum....

I understand what you mean with your comparison between fragrance clones and fake brand clothes. Personally I don't buy direct clones, but I wouldn't ignore them all together either. Because some of my favorite fragrances are fragrances that are "inspired by" other fragrances. For example, Niche4All Hazel Cognac is "inspired by" Killian Angels Share, and you can recognize the DNA, but Niche4All always has a little twist that makes it a different fragrance, most of the time they use the same notes, but with a different focus. And Hazel Cognac is one of my favorite fragrances overall, ever since it came out. I actually prefer it over Angels Share.

I want to say this about clones even though I think we'll have fun videos aren't going to say this and are probably not worth watching. There are some clothes that are good or at least worth trying. Some people say for instance at Percival buy parfums de Marly is a clone Abercrombie and Fitch Fierce. But a lot of people think Percival is better, though it is much more expensive. Another want to talk about Club De Nuit. Some of their clone fragrances are genuinely good. For instance some people think that spillage is even better than Silver Mountain Water despite it being a blatant and much cheaper clone

It is true, the fragrance reviews channels are massively over saturated. Unless you have a unique personality and something inventive, don't bother. If you're new to the perfume addiction. Buy samples only and test them out, day and night. Never blind buy even if the reviewers say it's the ultimate compliment getter. And finally unless you really like the fragrance stick to 50ml. ✌

There more advertisers in "fragcom" then reviewers who just talk about this hobby. When i think of Jeremy and most of the female ones, all i see is your standard fragrance commercial. A good looking guy and more promiscuous woman who tell you "by this to get her".

Basically the "hook" lists with promissory titles. ☺ Likely meant to draw in new naive viewers (outside of the comm) and validate an old viewers' purchases. As far as clones go though, they've gotten so much better nowadays (and designers have been getting so much worse), that some (especially niche clones) have outstripped many designers imo. Both in terms of scent and presentation. And since fragrances are a side gig for designers, they mostly keep themselves afloat on brand recognition. The production costs are nearly the same, making the clone a more economical buy. The biggest problem now is that all the attention (and a failing dollar) has increased demand and prices. So it's a tighter cost-benefit decision. Interesting times.

You look so upset, this is how the world works. Im in the fragrance community and I think that buying many scents is just a harmless hobby for privilege people... So from the beginning , this hobby is stupid when peoples in the world are starving and dying because of inhumane living conditions. I feel so stupid sometimes when I wear fragrances and buy bottles that I will never finish. I have like 10 Liters of colones at home. I can literally take a bath with my collection. I understood after my 10's purchase that every KZfaq channel is about selling... you made that point to me more clear . thanks.

agree with most except the clones part. I don't care. No I get nothing at all from knowing something is expensive and authentic. I only care about general smell. on most things. If it smells generally like what i want and it's 200 bucks less i'm all for it. Often i prefer the clone cause it lacks a note i dislike in the original. I also only own like 12 fragrances and stopped buying. I also dont' interact with fragrance enthusiasts ever in real life so i'm not worried if they can tell a clone isn't the real thing.

It's not just fragrance. Pick any other topic - watches, fashion, "men's style", games, films, music - All these YT channels slip into self parody and repeat cliches and memes. There's very little original content any more and people chase likes/views so just fall into repeating tropes.

Maybe the best fragrance video ever! I have decided to not watch clone fragrance videos. I don’t understand the fascination with copies, by people who supposedly care the most. I’m not into clones, like I’m not into fake Rolexes, man made diamonds, or counterfeit money. Furthermore, these influencers who promote them, are doing a disservice to their subscribers. Be who you are. There are too many great cheap fragrances out there, to waste your money on cheap imitations. I would rather have fewer better quality fragrances, than more that aren’t worth anything. And the same people that say they can’t afford the real, have shelves full of crap.
@brian_fantana

Fake rolexes and diamonds are not remotely the same as a clone fragrance. You don't wear the bottle on your neck, and some are so close that even people interested in fragrances can't tell the difference. Why pay $500 for overpriced fragrance oils when you can get something extremely close for $30?
