Love these videos. To you they may be ramblings, but to those of us who have only dreamed about building a bike, these videos are very valuable.

Cheers for the tips and information. Great metal skills. Show some of the finished bikes. Not sure if your doing the KZfaq anymore but if you show some of the finished bikes from your frames plenty will start to watch. W Johno

Great video! Good speaking ability. IF you can get water cooling you will really like it. I am an old timer and did TIG welding most of my life. Your torch will stay nice and cool, and the tungsten stays in better shape longer.

Oh yes it is easy to build any style frame in these jig if you have the motor on site. All I do is remove the motor and trans mounts on the jig and block in the motor and hit it with a laser and some straight edges then you simply have to build up the mounts to the motor. We have done Triumph, Norton, and a yamaha in this jig in the past. It is more work but not too awful bad

Yo Bro, keep pumping out the videos, I'm really learning a lot from you. I have plans to attempt my own frame build and the little pointers you give may not seem like much to some but they mean a helluva lot to me. Thanks!

Ah man I wish I had the cameras back when I built these but unfortunately I dont think I will be in need of another full jig. I may have to make jig fixtures though and will post those and maybe a video showing the jigs better. Thanks for the comment man, Cheers

Grab a angle finder and if your neck is 42 degrees or less you should have decent trail with a juiced front end or springer but I have found when we go upwards of 50 degrees you kinda want to go springer and custom made so they can set the rockers for the best trail. Juiced (hydraulic) front ends tend to flex and wear out seals quick at high rakes and tall bikes that are raked and really gonna wear quick.

@brownjessea1 We have design templates with measurements to make the Harley big twin and sportster mounts but in the event we make a frame for a Yamaha or something other than the harley yes we have to make the mounts fitting them to the motor first. In that case the jig cant be used since it it set up for the two applications and we would build the frame either around the motor on the jig with all the motor fixtures off or we would build the frame and then mount themotor

@mikewashere01 Roughly 61 inches long and 27 inches tall without wheels. 3.5 ride height so with wheels around 30.5 to the top of the neck
@MetalShopVlogs
@MetalShopVlogs 11 жыл бұрын
After you get the frame done put the rear wheel on and and block the frame up to a level ride height and add a 1/2" to 1" so the front is higher then you can set a front wheel out there and run a line down to it to get front end length and the extra 1/2 to 1" will account for compression. There is a rake trail calculator you can google it to help find your trail and decide if you want to go with a springer to kick the front out more or if you will need to use a hydraulic front end

Nice, I am planning to eventually build a frame jig from plans I found on the internet. I run a small welding/fabrication shop and would like to get into building motorcycles. Do you have specific jig pieces to build the motor and transmission mounts or is each one built by fitting the motor and transmission to be used?

I only use cold rolled DOM tubing 120 wall and tig weld everything. I had a stick welder in the shop but I never used it and ended up giving it to a friend.

Can u make a video on how u made ur rear axle plate I have no Ida how or what kinda metal to use
@MetalShopVlogs
@MetalShopVlogs 10 жыл бұрын
The rears are made from a mild steel, you main concern would be having the same type of material as the frame tubes so if you have mild steel you would use mild steel plate or block and if it is something more exotic like stainless then you would make the blocks out of a stainless make up that would best suit the joining process. I will put this on my list of future videos but it wont be soon since we are still in the re set up process following our move, everything is either in storage or my garage until the shop is set up :-(
