The way you teach is simply great ! I tried this on Djembe as I am learning Djembe. I am finding out that Rhythms are truly universal. Somewhere down the line I will learn frame drum as well.

Yes, rhythms are universal! I like that you tried this on djembe. We’ve also brought patterns and techniques across percussion instruments. As long as you’re unattached to ethnic specific playing, I find it exciting to do this. AND I also love my frame drums 🥰

Hi Ken, I have a line on a used Cooperman 14" with a renaissance head. I tend to like a deeper sound but should i pass on it for $245? I do not own a Cooperman and have been spooked by the price new. Appreciate your thoughts.
@kenshorley
@kenshorley Жыл бұрын
Well, I'm a bit biased because Cooperman drums are my absolute fave. $245 is still an investment but new that same drum is $377 plus tax (I think?). So it's not a bad price for an amazing drum. But if you're unsure about the 14" size, I'd wait. I usually recommend a 16" drum when someone is ready to invest in a really good quality instrument.
@razajac80
@razajac80 Жыл бұрын
@@kenshorley Thank you Ken for that information and advice. I felt that a 16" bendir was a choice I'd feel better about as it can be a bendir or a tar with the string system being easily on or off. I just felt uneasy paying $245 for a used 14" drum being a smaller size than I wanted although it was in excellent shape. Thank you for taking time to reply and I look forward to becoming a better hand drummer. I've focused on the drum set and marimba as a student of Gordon Stout. Hand drumming has me all inspired again. Your videos are wonderful and I'm contemplating taking your course on line.

@@razajac80 Sounds like a good choice! I'm always a bit nervous buying used instruments although I've had good luck over the years. I hope you do decide to take my BFD course. I think you'd enjoy it! All the best and happy drumming!

@@kenshorley What would you recommend as a step up from a Remo non tune-able 16 inch synthetic frame drum, without breaking the bank? Laughs!! I can't live with the dead sound I'm getting! I have seen several tune-able Frame drums like a roosebeck! for around 90 bucks! Sorry about all the questions!

Question regarding the second exercise (the ktk variation) : Do you play ktk_P (k,t,k, 1/4 pause, P) or ktkP (like a triplet)? I tried slowing down the playback speed, to me it sounds like a triplet but I'm not sure.
@kenshorley
@kenshorley 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question, Kostas. The second variation (ktk) is a fast triplet.
