The pal version is slower than the ntsc & ntsc-j because of the power frequency being 50hz instead of 60hz. This frequency is required to get a stable picture out of the tv set or composite video monitor. So in a way someone is correct it would play slower but it is dependent on the region.

Fact you probably didn't know: The Casio PV-1000 has the NEC G65010G031 (Good lord what a name) as the GPU and soundchip. It has 3 sound channels with only 1 channel volume. They are all detuned, but it's possibly tuned to C Sharp. Each channel does have a louder input, with Channel 3 being the loudest. So, it's basically 3 soundchips into one. (Atari 2600 for the detuning, The IBM PC Speaker for having only 1 volume switch, and the VIC-20 for having a shared volume control and bad tuning.) It explains why most games sound usually bad.

So, I can say that Pooyan and Super Cobra are running too fast in the emulator. Long story to how I know this. I had a friend growing up whose father was an engineer for a Japanese car company. Well, it's more confusing than that. His dad's from Argentina, and he went to Japan to work for a major auto maker. He got married there and had some kids. Eventually, he was involved with trying to open a factory in Brazil, and moved to the US to work with the American branch of the manufacturer to do... Something here. He didn't give any details of what exactly he did. Unnecessary story aside, they had a PV 1000 with Pooyan and Super Cobra, abd we played it a lot. His dad made a joystick for it out of clicky switches, a tin, and some wood. I guess the controllers were impossible to find by the late 80s?

I just got the system yesterday, so far I just played Dig Dug, because I love that game. I hope the controller never breaks, 'cause there are no replacements out in the wild!

The PV 1000 will easily be one of my favourite obscure consoles and when I say obscure I don't mean something like Atari Jaguar or 3D0, I mean actually obscure because there are very few machines less well known than this. I really like the look of it and for such a short lived system, it had a decent - ish library of games on it such as Dig Dug, Space Panic, Turtles ect. The thing I find most fascinating is just how short lived it was, in fact I might be incorrect here but I think the PV 1000 is the current record holder for console that spent the shortest time on the market, I believe it was only 3 months because it couldn't compete with the SG 1000, Famicom and Casio's very own much superior and cheaper computers. As a result it only sold 9000 units making it the 3rd worst selling system next to the View Master Interactive Vision (5000 units) and the Commodore 64 Game System (2000 units)

I find relatively obscure consoles fascinating, this one doesn't seem that cool to me. Atari Jaguar had an enticing idea with unusual games. Adventure vision had a built in screen with red monochrome graphics. Astrocade was pretty powerful for the time, and had a keyboard built on the console. This just seems like an underpowered console made up of arcade games better on other consoles. Though I'm glad at least you can see it's beauty 🙂 . Also, if you are into this, check out the Emerson Arcadia. It kinda reminds me of this.
@thebotbuilder
@thebotbuilder 4 жыл бұрын
@@bubbythebear6891 I find the Adventure Vision and Astrocade quite interesting machines and I honestly think the Atari Jaguar is a very underrated console, and I do see what you mean as the Arcadia is quite similar to the PV 1000 especially with the controllers and games. I can see why the PV 1000 doesn't interest you but at least it is way better than the Gakken Compact Vision TV Boy from around the same time period.

Pu-Yon's song is "Theme From San Francisco," a song Judy Garland did (and I know from Looney Tunes). All said, I actually assume the origin is older, but Wikipedia doesn't reference anything, so maybe it's original? Wikipedia also doesn't mention if it's public domain or not, which I assume it is, considering it was in Looney Tunes, and trashy movies like Clifford (with Martin Short).
