You sir are a machine. Working full time at an incredibly hard job and start over when you get back home. Thank goodness you’re young enough to get this all done and still have time to enjoy the fruits of your labour. And Katie my goodness this young woman is so tough and still so beautiful. Hats off to this great team and your lovely beasts. Fan in Ottawa 👵🐶🥰🇨🇦😊

You guys need a set of forks for that tractor. A friend of mine, father broke his back and is now a paraplegic doing the exact same thing you guys are doing, using that bucket to lift things like logs. Log rolled back on him because he hit a gopher hole. Log rolled back, down the loader arms, broke the muffler and pinned him in the seat. Loader fork with a back stop can be acquired fairly easy and there not that costly

Just realized I have been watching you two for years, from the time when you were setting forms, cement work and getting the animal collection together. I have told you I'm in a wheelchair and can't walk yet but that is my goal in my golden years. The years are very bright, full of projects, getting a Van outfitted to travel around my beautiful Island in just a few weeks. Love watching you two build your abode in the woods, Love your dogs too.

I truly believe that Cottonwood is a most misunderstood kind of lumber. Here in central alaska, we do have some beautiful cottonwood trees... some of our black spruce is okay but just about all we have to work with locally.... well the birch is really nice but not a softwood. I used cottonwood by soaking it in the pond after sawing it into lumber to keep it from warping too badly or kept it in narrow widths. I used it fairly green and then soaked it with a concoction of diesel and transmission oil as I was so broke at the time that paying attention was a pain.... I put it on my little garage I had built to work out of rain and mud. It turned out so beautiful that I re sided my house with it and did the same thing. I did figure out that if you don't cover it in other wood or tight paper insulation, it didn't rot or warp near so bad. It is still on that house and little shop building the bank now owns when you get crippled and can't make a simple cheap payment every month.... I had to wait for insurance to kick in which it did, just too late and banks don't have hearts or even a small amount of feeling for their people... we are just numbers in a system... hurt so bad. I ain't so sure about roofing so will be interesting to see how it lasts.... and of course, there is always another day to re do it if necessary.. hopefully not tho. Those little chickens are soooo cute... coming from a guy no less

Another fun fact about cottonwood, is it burns extremally hot but it's stinky like crap. Something else that might be interesting to see would be if you guys took a chunk or your Rockwool insolation and try to torch it to see if it will catch on fire and keep burning on its own. You live in a tender box environment and it would suck if your house was susceptible to a major fire. I hope your planning on burning the bottom of your first row of sighting that covers the metal flashing. Good video.

You are building yourself a beautiful barn out of new, freshly cut lumber. It will be very functional because it is built to meet your needs and plans, and has a fascinating style and design. And the hardboard siding will be excellent - it beats vinyl siding by far! The windows will do well for your purpose. Tidying up the yard and building the barn seems to go together. You will be very happy with the final result, and so will be the animals! It is a joy to see your dedication and perseverance! Keep it up. And I just love the surroundings where you live!

Love the safety shoes. Lol. There is nothing wrong with Cottonwood. It falls in the hardwoods but it's acualy it's a soft wood. When we lived in Abbotsford we burned it for firewood for over 20 years. It'll be fine for what your doing.

Hi Katie and Greg. I will try not to say anything you have already read. "But mommy, you have to give me a head start when you throw the frisbee and when you are outside, you are supposed to play with all of my toys I bring you, OK?" The cottonwood looks nice. I suppose the darker wood near the center of the plank is closer to the center of the tree. I may have said this but, "The more you save, the less you buy" and you are doing just that. You knew you would use it one day, just not when. Have good days!
