This France team really had the draw from hell. Italy, Brazil, Germany and if they got past them it was either Argentina or Belgium.

There are two France: one before the African immigrants and another after them. The speedy, talent and physical conditions are definitely the key for to win. But France has a organisation, technical method and tactics that African teams hasn't.

The problem is French could only get No. 2 of the Group behind the Soviet. If they were No.1, they will meet Belgium, Spain, then Argentina in the Semi. Would they pass Maradona, looks impossible.

Joel Bats went from hero to villain in a few days. Same old story - it's difficult to get up physically and mentally for a game after the heights of the Brazil game. France looked tired and flat in this game.

I remember watching this match live. Schumacher was masterclass and was the sole reason for keeping the French from scoring on multiple occasions. This German team was not of the same class as the one four years earlier; but as Germans do, willed their way to the semifinal after less than impressive wins over Morocco and Mexico (PKs).

yep, and France was a kind of exhausted after beating Brazil in an extra time match, the French goalkeeper also was responsible for the first goal in semifinals.

Hidalgo should have played less tired players in certain positions after the win V Brazil (JP Papin for example who could have been dangerous for the Germans with more impact). Many French players were tired and still marked by defeat of 1982.

@@rolandzarka5191 He made "moral" mistakes (1982), yes. But his abilities as a goalkeeper were outstanding, one of the best in the world back then. Shame (or was it some kind of justice?) that he performed poorly in the final vs. Argentina.

Both finalists in this cup had softer matches: Germany defeated Morocco and Mexico, while Argentina defeated an irregular Uruguay, England and Belgium. Both finalists were clearly not the best teams, because the best teams were Brazil and France.

@wnorforaneo9821 losing one match doesn't make them irregular, Uruguay was the only you can say that was irregular but they had a great team nonetheless. And it's not exactly like brazil had a tough world cup up until they faced france they had faced the mighty Algeria,Northern Ireland and Spain(who got eliminated by Belgium in quarter finals), and then Poland in round of 16, hardly world beaters they had to face. France I can agree on they had the hardest path to the final after argentina honestly maybe even harder but it's not argentinas fault they couldn't get past Germany for the second time in a row. It's honestly between Argentina and France who had the toughest paths but France fell short once again.
