A thought for France Gall, and for all those who love her, and who do not forget her.
In winter of 1969, France Gall confided in the microphone of Charlotte Ruphi, an emblematic figure of Swiss television, during a simple and intimate interview. At that time, France Gall had just left Phillips, after having honored the 5-year contract which bound her to the record company and recorded more than 70 songs. She wishes to develop her repertoire, which she regrets the lack of coherence and unity, and also wishes to defend new songs that would better correspond to her sensitivity. She changes her team completely: only her father and brothers will remain by her side, whose advice is invaluable to her. But now shers the only one to make the choices. For 5 years, she will seek her way. And will tune her rhythm: she will greatly slow down the rate of her recordings (about thirty songs). “I knew what I didn't want, but I didn't know what I wanted”*. France Gall is not satisfied, she cannot find the spark. The 45 rpm releases are spaced out, far from the colossal successes she has enjoyed before. It is hardly except in Germany that they remain regular and important. She recorded about forty songs there, most of them written for her.
However, this recognition from the public from across the Rhine, while pleasant, does not correspond to the image she has of her profession either. She wishes to transmit, be able to exchange, communicate in her language. It was also at this time that she retired to the countryside, not far from Pourrain, where her family came from, alongside Julien Clerc, her companion at the time. She dreams of starting a family, he, a young beginner, is not ready, caught up in the whirlwind of success and glory that she herself had known. She is even considering changing her profession, but will find that it is difficult to become the average person when you've been so famous. And she loves to sing, she loves music. This is how she hears on the radio "Attends-Moi", the first track by Michel Berger. It was a day in 1973. France Gall knows she found her path. From her determination ensued 7 studio albums, millions of records sold, 7 shows, and an ever-stronger bond with the public, which will last well beyond her last recordings in 1997. And never break.
Thank you, France ...

Merci, France...

love that she said “i don’t really like the modern” when i’ve spent a lot of my time in my youth obsessing over the 60s instead of today’s modernity

I find that’s something interesting to think about. How deeply are things exoticized simply because of their age? It’s fun to look back at the past, whatever it makes me wonder. What are we missing out on in the present day?

She’s 22 here and she still seems so girlish, I love it. Modern teenage stars (like 16-17 yrs old) look more adult than her. That’s horrible, what we’ve become, it’s pointless.

Perhaps, but either her then or the modern stars now, they're all manipulated by the adults around them.

I heard she hated singing children's songs even though they were some of her early successes.
