Many of them not temporarily. - Underprivilged students in affordable housing have been forcibly thrown out of their studio apartments for months before the event has even started, right before their exams, with no alternative in order to make room for athletes (while other housing solutions in the private sector have quadrupled in price or more). - Thousands of homeless people have been treated like criminals and displaced, leading to many of them losing what little support system they have. Some gated camps have been created for them outside the area ; sure, History doesn't have bad precedents for that ! - Restrictive measures have been implemented. Some parts of Paris are going to have checkpoints, with local residents having to register themselves with electronic passes, and every single person coming to see them too, on a government app. This goes for stores and services in the "red zones", too. For instance if you have a medical appointment in one of the "red zones", you'll have to provide proof of actually having booked it. If you don't use a specific private company to schedule medical appointments with (which is incredibly bad in terms of private data), will require you to get a special pass from the police prefecture itself. Stuff like that. Good times. - The Olympics have also been an excuse to pass "temporary" legislation (which we know from previous "temporary" laws always end up being permanent), including very problematic mass algorithmic surveillance (we're already a country full of cameras, but it's never enough) which not only will threaten our very freedom, but also YOURS, dear tourists. You're gonna be on record. You're going to be profiled and tracked. You would never agree to that in your own country, but enjoy that here. France wasted 1.4 billion, raised transportation costs, and cleared homeless camps for a river that's ended up being too dirty for the Olympics. The people protested because they're the ones losing in this situation that could have never happened had France decided to clean the river MUCH earlier.
