Japan beat France 2-0 in a group D league game of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup here on Tuesday as they clinched a quarter-final berth with this result. Colombo and Spain also qualified for the quarterfinals from group C with wins over Mexico and China respectively on Tuesday.

@@agustinramonruckstuhl3024 In men's football, too. I'd keep an eye on them. The Japanese are. Notorious for breaking down everything and addressing it with top techniques they contrive. The Japanese men are not what they used to be. Teams that do not respect them on the field are going to benin for a rude awakening.

the japanese women team is world class , i was watching the video and screaming and laughing on how amazed they played , bunch of missed goals , it could be easily 4 - nil , that last opportunity dribbling the french goalkeeper was the highlight of this video , im brazilian , but im definitely rooting for japan

Japan is a powerhouse in women's soccer, the women's senior team already beat USwmnt and won a World Cup, yes they have world cup to their name, and those girls are the future that will moving on into the senior team. so the future look good for the women's game

The NWSL team in my city, Portland Thorns FC, signed Japanese International Hina Sugita away from Kobe Leonessa this season. What a joy it's been to watch her play. Thorns have had some of women's football's best technical players over the years (Heath, Boquete, Horan, Henry, etc.) and Sugita can hold her own with any of them. Superb skills and a football mind that's a step or two ahead all the time. Japan's turning out amazing players.

@@DavidKAnderson I believe thatbthe main reason why the US women have beem so good for so long is because we started getting our girls involved in soccer WAY before other countries. I always assumed that the soccer powerhouses of the world would eventually catch up and level the playing field....if their cultures allowed for it.

I must say , nobody in this league including my Brazilian squad are playing on the same level as Japan , they won every subtle match , scored 10 goals and they didn't conceded a single goal , very impressive

Not forgotten. That Venezuela leads the Group stage with a 3-0 (GF8/GA0) record going into the Knockout stage in the 2014 U17 Women's World Cup.. They then won the Quarter-finals with a 3-2 victory over Canada to reach the Semi-finals. That Venezuela was the only team to score one goal from Japan But Venezuela lost to Japan 1-4 in the Semi-finals. That Venezuela were a good scoring team. Unlike the 2014 team, it is unlikely that the current Venezuela, which did not qualify, has the ability to do so.

Women's football in Japan has also seen a gradual emergence of players with one parents having non-Japanese roots. In the future, it is likely that some players will become naturalised Japanese citizens and both parents will have non-Japanese roots. But no matter what country they are from, they are qualified to represent their country and play for it, so I think we should support them.
