The hunt for jihadists in Africa's Sahel region

For this report, FRANCE 24's team embedded with Niger's special forces. In this epicentre of West African jihadism, local "franchises" of the Islamic State group and al Qaeda are competing to establish a vast "caliphate" across the Sahel region. Local villagers are caught in the crossfire, afraid that jihadists may infiltrate the population and living in fear of reprisals. Some 4,000 civilians died in this zone in 2019 alone. Niger's government has twin aims: to keep people safe and to recover territory, in order to prevent the "caliphate" rising from its ashes on the African continent.

Chadian army was attacked in March in a overnight battle that lasted 8hours in the lake Chad. Where was the 5000 French troops you mentioned at first? Their jets location is less than 300 miles away, and no reaction even tho the host country is under attack. Where were they when the Chadians retaliated and cleared the whole lake Chad islands on a solo operation? Yeah they are everywhere except battle fields. The Sahel is turning into the new “Afghanistan/Iraq”. A field for superpowers and arms dealers to make money.

15000 is not a big number compared to the large number of French troupes in the Sahel region but there's no sincerity in their operations and they want to keep their presence there just for their own purpose best known to them. I don't know when our African leaders will realise this.
