The thing that stood out to me is initially the men were prodding her with questions and she said she expected a conversation not an interrogation. But when the Lord Petri took interest to have a conversation about the things she’s interested in she panicked when the conversation had more depth wasn’t shallow. This conveyed to me she has her interests but she likes to keep things shallow and simple. She isn’t actually longing for intellectual conversation, she isn’t even longing to be vulnerable or fully understood.

He rushed off because clearly his ass is autistic too. Literally how SO many of my friends will leave a conversation, especially in a group setting, especially if their brain just caught on a goal. I could see a neurodivergence in her from a mile a way. As a neurodivergent myself, I teared up. I thought how it was cute how Violet's facial reactions were towards Frannie. To your point very supportive, but when Frannie said "No need to shout" and Violet gave like "well what do I do then" and when Violet awkwardly had to watch her daughter fail at flirting but said nothing...I mean yea. This season just confirmed Violet really is such a good and understanding mom (and I think part of the overall growth is after trying too hard with Daphne/Anthony at times she learned its sometimes better to just be there when she can).

I think the show is far more realistic in its treatment of Pen than the book version. Book version: loses a bunch of weight to finally get noticed by the suitor she wants. happy go lucky friendship with her bestfriend even after finding out about her mean, spiteful gossip mongering persona that directly harmed her family members. can do no wrong trope. Show version: stays the same weight. strives to enhance what she has. does not want to be a wallflower. friendship broken. broken friend dearly not enthused by her approaching her brother. Her petty gossiping and mean, snarky words are not always treated as good things. Pen has faults of her own. She's a sad person with lonely surroundings and while I can understand her, her actions do show that sometimes she's not a good person either. initially naive to how terrible her public gossiping can be. She's....a real person.

@@FairyLotusUnicorn From the book: April of 1814 found Penelope back in London for a second season, and even though she attracted the same number of suitors as the year before (zero), the season wasn't , in all honesty, quite so bad. It helped that she'd lost nearly two stone and could now call herself "pleasantly rounded" rather than a "hideous pudge". She was still nowhere near the slender ideal of womanhood that ruled the day, but at least she'd changed enough to warrant the purchase of a completely new wardrobe. - That was 1814, the book plays in the year 1824, when she is 28. So no, she did not lose weight to especially attract Colin. Colin, from the book: She was soft, curvy, and lush, just as he'd always thought a woman should be. - So Colin loves Penelope's lush figure. I don't know why everyone is writing that Pen just lost weight for Colin, and he is only attracted to her, because she is slender. That is WRONG.

@ducklingscap897
@ducklingscap897 23 күн бұрын
@@macyfisher5209 I really dislike it because autism is an actual "condition", not just a jacket you can wear and take off if you feel like it. You actually have to show certain traits to a degree and they have to impact your life, not be explained by something else and also have to have existed before a certain age. Diagnosing strangers is something that I always find stupid. You don't know the person, you aren't qualified to diagnose someone. Neurodivergent traits are human traits. Not everyone who is socially awkward or likes to stim is autistic, in fact most people are not. Running around and blindly labelling anyone as autistic just because they are a bit socially awkward is neither helping actual autistic people nor is it helping the person who got misdiagnosed. Also all this running around wildly diagnosing people just because you feel like it, is also perpetuating the notion that everyone MUST be diagnosed with something. Because clearly you can't have completely normal human traits like being shy, stimming, reserved, only having one time consuming hobby, enjoying silence etc. without being disabled right? If every person is neurodivergent then what's the point? Francesca is clearly not showing any autistic traits or neurodivergent traits to a degree that would be higher than your average introverted persons and she doesn't seem to be impacted by them either (which would both be signs that she is neurodivergent and not just your average shy introverted person). If she is autistic that's fine, if she isn't that's fine. But that's not for you to decide.
@macyfisher5209
@macyfisher5209 23 күн бұрын
@@ducklingscap897 First of all, I have AuDHD, and I am very much like Francesca, so your argument that she shows no autistic traits to an "autistic" degree holds no water. But aside from that I get exactly what you mean about diagnosing strangers; I recognize that the practice can be harmful when it's done by unqualified people, aka the internet, to real people. I also agree that neurodivergent traits are human traits. But what we're doing here is harming nobody. Autistic people should be allowed to feel represented by characters and "headcanon" characters as autistic even if they're not explicitly described as such. With our current token representation being Sheldon Cooper, everyone I meet is surprised to hear I'm autistic, because in their minds being autistic means I should either be extremely antisocial and have extremely low EQ to the point of assholery, or be a stuttering childlike idiot who needs help doing basic tasks. So I don't think it's fair to criticize us for seeking out better autism representation for ourselves and finding hope in characters that we can identify with. Because that's ultimately the beauty of fiction, isn't it? Being able to relate to a princess, or a viking, or an alien from a billion galaxies away, because we're not so strictly constrained by real life. Like you said; if she's autistic that's fine, if she isn't that's fine too. The showrunners have not mentioned anything about it, and we have no official statement. So why are you so bent up about us saying she could be autistic when we have no evidence to the contrary? Sure, you can argue it's not up for us to decide, but it sure isn't up to you to decide either. The point is we can all headcanon whatever we want, because it's a fictional character in a tv show and "misdiagnosing" her is literally not even a possibility because her attributes are all made up by her creators in the first place and can change according to their whims. TLDR: She's not real, so none of the impacts you listed actually apply. We have limited reasons to call her autistic but you also have limited reasons to call her not autistic. Everyone loses, now chill.

Spoilers They allude to her being gay though I’m kind of sad because the last episode seems to imply that the reason she didn’t have a spark with him was not due to her Neurodivergence, but because she is interested in women She has a really long look at his sister when they meet There’s also an expression she makes after her first kiss during her wedding and it’s kind of fd up because I’m sure many people saw that as just an extension of her autism, but I honestly think it was to imply that she realized she wasn’t romantically interested in him
