Yestarday I heard this piece in a radio broadcast dedicated to female composers (March 8th). I was so shocked that I listened to the podcast once at home and got the details of the composer, piece and performers. Today I'm listening to this awesome ciaccona for the fourth of fifth time... I find it so beautiful it moves me to tears, it has energy, beauty, elegance, charm, insght... it has it all. Thanks for sharing, it made my day.

Wikipedia: Francesca Caccini (18 September 1587 - after 1641) was an Italian composer, singer, lutenist, poet, and music teacher of the early Baroque era. She was also known by the nickname "La Cecchina", originally given to her by the Florentines and probably a diminutive of "Francesca".[1] She was the daughter of Giulio Caccini, and was one of the best-known and most influential female European composers between Hildegard of Bingen in the 12th century and the 19th century. Her stage work, La liberazione di Ruggiero, has been widely considered the first opera by a woman composer.

@@iona-sh I think I found out at one point that this piece might have just been an improv session of a violinist who was recording the rest of an album of Caccini work. I don’t remember the artist’s name, but I’m sure you could find it if you dug through some old comments sections on videos with this name. The good news is that this is basically just improv on repeating chords so it wouldn’t be too difficult to transcribe.

@@lennytriem1942 - was wondering how improved this was. If that is the case, how much of this is actually composed by Cassini? Rachel Podger also has a recording which is quite close to this one which makes me deduce that something is written somewhere!
@lennytriem1942 Жыл бұрын
@@kristabucklandreisner573 I remember reading that it was basically all improvised by someone who said they contacted the performer on Facebook, but since you found another similar recording, that might not be the case. That’s all I know.
