Almost exactly 4 years before this match, Francis lost to Stipe, who weathered an early storm to use his wrestling to defeat Francis. 4 years later, Francis had his Stipe moment defending the belt against the guy everyone thought was gonna win. With completely jacked up knee, he couldn't get his striking going, adapted and started dominating in the grappling.

Francis being the betting underdog was sound when you watch his past fights and him getting the title from Stipe. After this dynamic performance against Gane, it'd be hard to see him as an underdog in a future fight against anyone in the top 5. This fight answered alot of questions, interested to see what occurs going forward. You can make the argument he didn't do enough to win it but the reality remains, and still.

Even at 34 Ngannou still has the ability to learn as if he was 17. His boxing improvement against Miocic 2 was like 🤯🤯🤯 as well as his wrestling here against Gane. But what he also showed against Stipe and Gane is that he learned to be patient and more than anything else composed, while before he was just emotional and with no composure, this is something extremely hard to change especially if you're over early twenties because it is about mindset; it is like you have to reset you brain and nervous system management. This showed that Francis is very intelligent and a very good and quick learner. He needed the right coaches and he found them in the US. Fantastic Francis.
