It's good for parents to provide constructive criticism if they feel their child is not doing well at something and can improve. Having parents who tell you you're great at everything just sets you up for disappointment later in life.

And when they get older they expect a blue ribbon just for showing up at work. Telling a child he/she is 'the best' makes the child afraid of failing. Afraid they won't be loved if they are NOT the best. So they either become over-achievers or underachievers (don't try = don't fail). Then there are the parents who withhold praise no matter how high the achievement because they are jealous of their own child.Lots of messed up parenting out there!!!!

This reminds from an audition I saw on American Idol. The judges made a girl stop singing because they didn't think her singing was good and it wasn't. The girl said, "My friends and family say that I'm a great singer," and Simon said to her, "Friends and families always say that."

There was a British man who was a terrible singer who said his mates had told him he was great and encouraged him to audition. In her kindest most sympathetic voice Sharon Osbourne said "Your mates were having you on."

When I sang with the songs. I always thought my singing was good. My boyfriend told me that I shouldn't sing, cause I wasn't good. I will never forget it. It's embarrassing, when you think you're good, and find out different. I haven't sang out loud, to a song, when someone is around, since that happened. 😊 Since 1975.

Yes. I saw a video where there was a different set. Even the whole kitchen changed from the early episodes. I don't hold it against the show. The Suitcase/ForkAndSpoon episode is still a gem. (P.S. I always look at that wall in every kitchen scene, though.)

I think Marie was a sneaky trick pulled on America. She is the anti-feminist disguised as a little old lady. She lays down WWII era justice on modern (year 2000) shitheads. The same way some in America were shocked when Archie Bunker became the best part of his show, Marie was the best part of her show. I have to think most men would love to have Marie as a Mom or Grandma. I can bet in 40 years of being Ray and Roberts mother she never once mentioned birth control, or breast feeding, or how her water broke. She probably wasn't the cool Mom when the kids were 10, but a grown man would appreciate what she was, and what she wasn't.
