That was a great move getting rid of cup winning Kadri. Remember him? The guy that loved playing for the Leafs. He fought, scored and played with passion. He was literally half the price of his replacement. Good lord this club has done a good job. I like the fact Shanahan/Dubas ensured they spent wisely. I like the fact said management ensured the development system always has players to compete from the farm team. I especially like their drafting. It was genius to keep drafting from Dubas junior club. I mean, they built the team like a junior club so kudos to them

Dubas got rid of/retired 22 players since the Columbus 2020 and Montreal 2021 playoff series. Traded away 6 quality NHL players/prospects.

There's too much weight put into one part and it's sinking the team. There needs to be a balance. Build around two star forwards and fill in the rest, starting with a number one goalie.

Watch the terminal goal against again, Marners not the only guilty party, the Leafs play a non-contact style, hitting is not System generated nor supported,so by proxy its a high risk move, Marners not stupid so he doesnt hit as much as we all want, send him to Boston with Marchand then see what kind of Dog he turns into. If all the Leafs in the Zone on that playaction played a hit-heavy style and System Pasta never gets inside lanes unmolested. Marners not the problem hes just a spoke in the Wheel.

One of the best hockey stories I heard was Shanahan getting into a bar fight in Detroit at a dive bar and getting the crap kicked out of him. Not celebrating that, just saying it to further demonstrate his personality and how it contradicts whatever the hell he’s been doing here for ten years. The ‘we believe in this group’ is a corporate message from Bell Rogers and mostly Latry to maintain enterprise value while Larry exits MLSE. With Raptors in the tank, Larry needed the Leafs to stay high, and that didn’t include selling any of the core four. Shanny is a stooge and he’ll prove it again Friday at 10:30. Pelley used to work for Rogers, now he works for Bell and Rogers and will be the NHL commisiioner before 2030. Leafs continue to pay the bills for the entire fing league.

Look up the list of top money players stats in the playoffs, theres plenty of company with mitch, ganted, hes been invisable but hes a really good hockey player, hes taken so much crap and deserves it but he'll go somewhere and be a big part of their scoring.

I see it the same way.. Suggesting to Marner and his agency the only way he gets an 8 year deal is to provide a list of teams he would sign an extension with, how does Austin and Willy handle the idea? Well, they signed extensions already, and I’m sure last summer when Treliving Introduced himself as “the new guy running things back” he may have mentioned if for whatever reason (and there are many) that the “run it back” doesn’t work the I gotta do what I’m paid to do, which is improve the team by any means necessary.

Management not wanting a guy is different than a team not wanting a guy. Players can absolutely decline waiving a no trade clause. Todd Marchant did it simply because the team that would be acquiring him wouldn’t let his GM tell him which team he was being traded to.

Buffalo saw a drop in their goals scored when they started to focus more on defense (but Granato also stubbornly stuck to his system). If the Leafs can do a Marner for L. Crouse trade, that would be a huge trade for them. It would also free up more cap space to address the backend.

They each have 1 year to go. Both of them get giant bonuses on July 1st - Tavares would then cost $303,333 this year and next, while Marner would cost $258,333 this year and next. You’re stuck with their cap hits next year no matter what - a buyout would save less than a million bucks - but you’d get two better contributors with big roles by spending Brodie & Samsonov money to pay them - then the following year, you’d have almost $25M in cap space to continue the progress they’d move on with next year.

Mustn't forget that the Leafs are one of the top teams in the NHL and that means they will be drafting at the bottom of the draft if they haven't traded away their 1st rd pick already. The chances of picking up a player as skill as Marner at 28th in the draft and on is pure luck like Jesper Bratt 6th rd #162, Conor Garland 5th rd #123, Batherson 4th rd #121, Point 3rd rd #79.

although frustrating Marner isnt stupid, i see him going to florida, wherever it will definately be a physical team where he doesnt need to worry about dishing shit out and can be the scorer there while other get dirty. he knows he doesnt like contact, so his best bet is to get behind a competitive club that is physical where he can do his thing and shine as a point guy. florida is my guess but definately a team thats in playoff contention regularly.

if a player is not playing well its the coaches job to put players on the ice that are ,its a real time decisions ex. toronto played enspired hockey when mathews was sick .some players are just not as successfull in the playoffs because of tighter checking and phtsical play like jor thornton who would telegraph his frustration

Matthews and Nylander were injured for a total of 7 games. If they are not in the game they cannot score. To conclude the core can't score when half the core aren't playing us absurd. This also assumes that if 34 & 88 were playing all games that they would not score. Highly unlikely.

You said Mitch Marner is one of the players that gets you to the playoffs. Getting there is what gives you a chance. You don't just replace playmaking forwards like him that produce 100pt seasons. Mathews is the scorer. Nylander is the space maker. Marner is the setup guy. The whole team loves the guy and wants him to be there. They all want to win a cup together. J.T's contract was TOO long for too much money. Marner does not just put up points HE kills penalties he breaks up plays. He has great vision. You don't trade away and get a bunch of Pieces that other teams do not want.

Im guessing the Florida Panthers became a better playoff team when Matthew Tkuchuk went to Florida, to provide grit replacing a career season by J.Huberdeau. They need the other Tkuchuk in Ottawa by trading skill for grit. Marner for Brady.

Frank forgets that the D core was not good enough. Yes the team defense was solid in the last three games but the D did NOTHING to help the forwards generate offence. Offence takes 5 men too.

I can absolutely guarantee you he won't sit. In a contract year? Nah he'll pick where he wants to go and they'll make it work to that destination. You play and you kill it in contract years, sitting you would sabotage your career earnings.

everything screams Columbus: 1. no playoff team will take him, so a team in rebuild, help Fantilli, + Goudro and Laine, & US tax & $, 2. has cap space, also retain, and owner invested in winning. 3. not close competition in division. 4. NOT getting back elite players, 'saviors', but big 2nd line C & top 4 D on PP & PK = Boon Jenner, 30 goals, center (or wing) reasonable contract, only about 30 yr old, but too old for rebuild, ON boy, Provorov, also not US boy, or is this TOO LOGICAL?

Right away it starts off all wrong. He admits no one had any expectations of Leafs success in the playoffs then he says there was disappointment that they loss in the playoffs. Even though the Leafs took the stronger Bruins team to 7 games when they couldn't beat the Bruins during the regular season he says that. Do they make this "disappointment" schit up because they just don't like the Leaf franchise? Everyone should have been entertained they watched the Leafs get that far against the Bruins. He admits that Marner is a fanastic player during the regular season but man for man right down to the last guy they pop in on the 4th line they are not as good as the Bruins or Florida, yet we should get rid of Marner. No 2nd line that can score enough goals to give them a chance to win when better teams concentrate all their effort in stopping the Leafs top line. A rare player that other teams seem to find the last 50 years and Leafs finally got one and we are just going to give him away because over the last 9 yrs there has always been 4 or 5 teams in the league that are better than the Leafs. They fked up in '20 and '21 and then the next 3 years they lost to the eventual Stanley Cup winner, a team that ended up in the finals and now we wait to see how far the Bruins get. The Columbus Blue Jackets nor the '21 Canadiens were hardly anything close to the quality of the '24 Bruins.. But we should get rid of Marner because people are still mad about '20 and '21 playoffs. No Rosie he is not saying that. He's saying "No I'm not going to leave just because some people in the media don't like me. Hockey people that matter know who I am and even though they are drooling hoping the Leafs are stupid enough to give me to them I'm not leaving." Man, the more Seravalli spews out the more it sounds like he has a burr up his arse over Marner. 5:00 is pure hate speech. To even think a Pres and GM would say that schit to a player of that value is a sadist fantasy. A GM would have to be really callus to even say that in Vancouver to Kuzmenko or in Ottawa to Tarasenko.

disagree, i think when Keefe broke up the marner, matthews magic, marner lost his mojo, too many changes too often. i would keep him and lose tavares , love him but hes lost his skills and is too expensive. we need postivity along with large body, soft hands smart spatial awareness players. we need to smile more, especially the new coach, i swear just beiber could coach the team better. keep marner!!!

If the leafs had found a way to win that last game, all this bs talk would never happen… leaf’s played very well but the bruins caught a break and managed to score in ot…. This is playoff hockey and it’s tough to win for all the teams in the playoffs…. a gritty, feisty player, Mitch is not that type of player and everyone has always known that…. But he is a great player and I would keep him.. it’s a team effort period… stop blaming just one player… In my opinion if a change was to be made, a coaching change would be my top priority….

When we get a Bertuzzi, Klingberg, and Matt Murray type contract for the Marner money, the crying will be epic. Haven't you been paying attention to what happens in Toronto?
